ETSI launches IoT ontology for automotive, eHealth, wearables and water distribution

The ETSI SmartM2M technical committee is pleased to confirm it has extended its IoT SAREF ontology with four new sectors addressing the automotive, eHealth/Ageing-well, wearable and water domains. The Smart Applications REFerence (SAREF) ontology is intended to enable interoperability between solutions from different providers and within various activity sectors in the Internet of Things (IoT), thus contributing to the development of the global digital market. SmartM2M has already developed six extensions, now supplemented with these four new specifications.

New ETSI White Paper on Enhanced DNS Support in Distributed MEC Environments

Today ETSI announces the publication of its White Paper on DNS Support in Distributed MEC Environments. DNS (Domain Name System) is a key infrastructure element in any distributed edge cloud as it is used to ensure that modern (i.e. URL/URI-based) services requests are resolved to the properly located service instances. The best instance may often be decided based on properties other than location, e.g., service latency, resource availability as well as the device identifier.

ETSI publishes a white paper introducing Permissioned Distributed Ledger (PDL)

After the release of the first specification on smart contracts on 18 January, members from the ETSI PDL group published a White Paper entitled “An Introduction of Permissioned Distributed Ledger (PDL)”.

Distributed ledgers have consolidated as one of the most disruptive applications of information technology that have appeared in recent years. Their ability to store any kind of data as a consensus of replicated, shared, and synchronized digital records distributed across multiple sites, without depending on any central administrator, together with their properties regarding immutability (and therefore non-repudiation) and multi-party verifiability opens a wide range of applications.

ETSI releases Report on Coordinated Vulnerability Disclosure - Helping organizations fix security vulnerabilities

New Extension for Disabled People to the ETSI Mobile Emergency App Framework

Real-Time Text (RTT) communications are used extensively by people with hearing and speech disabilities around the world. ETSI has just released a Protection Profile (PP) for the security evaluation of quantum key distribution (QKD) modules, ETSI GS QKD 016. This Protection Profile is a first and anticipates the need for quantum safe cryptography. The ETSI specification will help manufacturers to submit pairs of QKD modules for evaluation under a security certification process.

In this latest release, TeraFlowSDN enhances its capabilities with the integration of an Optical SDN controller, expanding device support to include gNMI and OpenConfig protocols. It also features enriched network integrations for end-to-end orchestration like IP over DWDM, L3VPN, MEC, and network topology exposure. The management of network topologies is improved with the addition of a new BGP-LS speaker able to discover the topologies, and a new Forecaster component is introduced, providing predictive insights for network management. Tenable®, the exposure management company, announced today that Shelly Raban, senior cloud security researcher for Tenable, will give a presentation at fwd:cloudsec Europe 2024, taking place on 17 September, 2024 in Brussels, Belgium.

During the session titled, “Who Watches the Watchmen? Stealing Credentials from Policy-as-Code Engines (and Beyond),” Raban will explore techniques adversaries use to exploit modern policy-as-code and Infrastructure-as-code (IaC) domain-specific languages (DSLs), compromise cloud identities and exfiltrate sensitive data. Raban will conclude her presentation by sharing various detection strategies that cyber defenders can implement to detect malicious activity. 

The session will be hosted in the Main Room from 2:50 - 3:10 pm CEST.
