Convergent normal forms for five dimensional totally nondegenerate CR manifolds in C^4. (arXiv:2004.11251v2 [math.CV] UPDATED)

Applying the equivariant moving frames method, we construct convergent normal forms for real-analytic 5-dimensional totally nondegenerate CR submanifolds of C^4. These CR manifolds are divided into several biholomorphically inequivalent subclasses, each of which has its own complete normal form. Moreover it is shown that, biholomorphically, Beloshapka's cubic model is the unique member of this class with the maximum possible dimension seven of the corresponding algebra of infinitesimal CR automorphisms. Our results are also useful in the study of biholomorphic equivalence problem between CR manifolds, in question.

Derivatives of normal Jacobi operator on real hypersurfaces in the complex quadric. (arXiv:2005.03483v1 [math.DG])

In cite{S 2017}, Suh gave a non-existence theorem for Hopf real hypersurfaces in the complex quadric with parallel normal Jacobi operator. Motivated by this result, in this paper, we introduce some generalized conditions named $mathcal C$-parallel or Reeb parallel normal Jacobi operators. By using such weaker parallelisms of normal Jacobi operator, first we can assert a non-existence theorem of Hopf real hypersurfaces with $mathcal C$-parallel normal Jacobi operator in the complex quadric $Q^{m}$, $m geq 3$. Next, we prove that a Hopf real hypersurface has Reeb parallel normal Jacobi operator if and only if it has an $mathfrak A$-isotropic singular normal vector field.

For any finite Galois field extension $mathsf{K}/mathsf{F}$, with Galois group $G = mathrm{Gal}(mathsf{K}/mathsf{F})$, there exists an element $alpha in mathsf{K}$ whose orbit $Gcdotalpha$ forms an $mathsf{F}$-basis of $mathsf{K}$. Such an $alpha$ is called a normal element and $Gcdotalpha$ is a normal basis. We introduce a probabilistic algorithm for testing whether a given $alpha in mathsf{K}$ is normal, when $G$ is either a finite abelian or a metacyclic group. The algorithm is based on the fact that deciding whether $alpha$ is normal can be reduced to deciding whether $sum_{g in G} g(alpha)g in mathsf{K}[G]$ is invertible; it requires a slightly subquadratic number of operations. Once we know that $alpha$ is normal, we show how to perform conversions between the working basis of $mathsf{K}/mathsf{F}$ and the normal basis with the same asymptotic cost.

Increased normal zone propagation velocity in superconducting segments

There is described herein a superconducting segment and method of making same comprising one or several layers with very high electrical resistivity, acting as a current flow diverter when the current transfers from the superconductor to the stabilizer. The purpose of this current flow diverter is: i) to increase the contact resistance between the superconductor and the stabilizer, by reducing the contact area, and ii) to force the current to flow along a specific path, so as to increase momentarily the current density in a specific portion of the stabilizer. The consequence of i) and ii) is that heat generated at the extremities of the normal zone is increased and spread over a longer length along the superconducting segment, which increases the NZPV and thus, the uniformity of the quench.

Various technologies described herein pertain to computing surface normals for points in a point cloud. The point cloud is representative of a measured surface of a physical object. A point in the point cloud can be set as a point of origin, and points in the point cloud can be modeled as electrostatic point charges. An orthopedic device for correcting abnormalities in the wrist, hand, fingers and thumb of a newborn baby comprises a lightweight glove shaped semi rigid shell constructed and dimensioned to fit a newborn baby within a few hours of birth. A wrist or lower arm and hand engaging portion are rotatably connected and adjustable in one millimeter increments. The adjustments are made with no more than one millimeter correction per 24 hour period. The shell includes a wrist and lower forearm engaging portion, a hand engaging portion and a finger engaging portion and is adjustable for rotationally clockwise or counterclockwise about the longitudinal axis of the lower arm bone. Further adjustments may be made to rotate the fingers upwardly or downwardly, to the left or right and rotationally and/or rotational movement between the hand and lower arm. The invention also contemplates an orthopedic method for correcting skeletal abnormalities of the wrist, hand, fingers and thumb of a newborn baby.

An abnormality detecting apparatus (10) for a rotating machine includes: a calculating part (15) which calculates a phase difference between signals respectively output from two sensors of one or more sets, the one or more sets being predetermined combinations of two sensors among the plurality of sensors, the plurality of sensors each of which detects an elastic wave generating in the rotating machine (1) having a rotor during rotation of the rotor, the sensors being arranged at predetermined different locations of the rotating machine (1); a storing part (16) which stores in advance information concerning a relationship between a phase difference and a contact position when a contact occurs during the rotation of the rotor, regarding the one or more sets; and a specifying part (17) which specifies a contact position by using a phase difference calculated by the calculating part (15) and the information stored in the storing part (16).
