Sodium [N,N'-ethyl­enebis(d-penicillaminato)]indate(III) tetra­hydrate

The asymmetric unit of the title compound {systematic name: sodium [2-({2-[(1-carboxyl­ato-2-methyl-2-sulfanidylprop­yl)amino]­eth­yl}amino)-3-methyl-3-sulf­an­idyl­butano­ato-κ4S,N,N',S']indate(III) tetra­hydrate}, Na[In(C12H20N2O4S2)]·4H2O, contains four indate(III) complex anions {[In(d-ebp)]−; d-H4ebp = N,N'-ethyelenebis(d-penicillamine)], four sodium(I) cations and sixteen water mol­ecules. The indate(III) anions and sodium cations are alternately connected through coordination bonds between Na+ ions and the carboxyl­ate groups of the complex anions, forming an infinite sixfold right-handed helix along the c-axis direction. In the crystal, the helices are linked by O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds between water mol­ecules bound to Na+ ions and carboxyl­ate groups. The crystal studied was twinned via a twofold axis about [001].

[Oxybis(ethane-1,2-di­yl)]bis­(di­methyl­ammonium) octa­molybdate dihydrate

The title compound, (C8H22N2O)2[Mo8O26]·H2O, (cis-H2L)2[β-Mo8O26]·H2O, where L = (bis­[2-N,N-di­methyl­amino)­eth­yl] ether), was synthesized from bis­[2-(di­methyl­amino)­eth­yl] ether and MoO3 under solvothermal conditions and characterized by multinuclear NMR and single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. The structure displays two [oxybis(ethane-1,2-di­yl)]bis­(di­methyl­ammonium), or [cis-H2L]2+, cations, a central [β-Mo8O26]4− anionic cluster consisting of eight distorted MoO6 octa­hedra, and two water mol­ecules in their deuterated form. The central anion lies across an inversion center. The [cis-H2L]2+ cations are hydrogen bonded to the central [β-Mo8O26]4− cluster via bridging water mol­ecules. In the crystal, O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the components into chains along [010]. Weak C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds link these chains into a three-dimensional network.

Redetermination of di­ammonium trivanadate, (NH4)2V3O8

The crystal structure of (NH4)2V3O8 has been reported twice using single-crystal X-ray data [Theobald et al. (1984). J. Phys. Chem. Solids, 45, 581–587; Range et al. (1988). Z. Naturforsch. Teil B, 43, 309–317]. In both cases, the orientation of the ammonium cation in the asymmetric unit was poorly defined: in Theobald's study, the shape and dimensions were constrained for NH4+, while in Range's study, H atoms were not included. In the present study, we collected a highly redundant data set for this ternary oxide, at 0.61 Å resolution, using Ag Kα radiation. These accurate data reveal that the NH4+ cation is disordered by rotation around a non-crystallographic axis. The rotation axis coincides with one N—H bond lying in the mirror m symmetry element of space-group type P4bm, and the remaining H sites were modelled over two disordered positions, with equal occupancy. It therefore follows that the NH4+ cations filling the space available in the (001) layered structure formed by (V3O8)2– ions do not form strong N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds with the mixed-valent oxidovanadate(IV,V) anions. This feature could have consequences for the Li-ion inter­calation properties of this material, which is used as a cathode for supercapacitors.

Synthesis and crystal structure of a new hybrid organic–inorganic material containing neutral mol­ecules, cations and hepta­molybdate anions

The title compound, hexa­kis­(2-methyl-1H-imidazol-3-ium) hepta­molybdate 2-methyl-1H-imidazole disolvate dihydrate, (C4H7N2)6[Mo7O24]·2C4H6N2·2H2O, was prepared from 2-methyl­imidazole and ammonium hepta­molybdate tetra­hydrate in acid solution. The [Mo7O24]6− hepta­molybdate cluster anion is accompanied by six protonated (C4H7N2)+ 2-methyl­imidazolium cations, two neutral C4H6N2 2-methyl­imidazole mol­ecules and two water mol­ecules of crystallization. The cluster consists of seven distorted MoO6 octa­hedra sharing edges or vertices. In the crystal, the components are linked by N—H⋯N, N—H⋯O, O—H⋯O, N—H⋯(O,O) and O—H⋯(O,O) hydrogen bonds, generating a three-dimensional network. Weak C—H⋯O inter­actions consolidate the packing.

Two new glaserite-type orthovanadates: Rb2KDy(VO4)2 and Cs1.52K1.48Gd(VO4)2

The crystal structures of dirubidium potassium dysprosium bis­(vanadate), Rb2KDy(VO4)2, and caesium potassium gadolinium bis­(vanadate), Cs1.52K1.48Gd(VO4)2, were solved from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. Both compounds, synthesized by the reactive flux method, crystallize in the space group Poverline{3}m1 with the glaserite structure type. VO4 tetra­hedra are linked to DyO6 or GdO6 octa­hedra by common vertices to form sheets stacking along the c axis. The large twelve-coordinate Cs+ or Rb+ cations are sandwiched between these layers in tunnels along the a and b axes, while the K+ cations, surrounded by ten oxygen atoms, are localized in cavities.

Synthesis and crystal structure of a penta­copper(II) 12-metallacrown-4: cis-di­aqua­tetra­kis­(di­methyl­formamide-κO)manganese(II) tetra­kis­(μ3-N,2-dioxido­benzene-1-carboximidate)penta­copper(II)

The title compound, [Mn(C3H7NO)4(H2O)2][Cu5(C7H4NO3)4]·C3H7NO or cis-[Mn(H2O)2(DMF)4]{Cu[12-MCCu(II)N(shi)-4]}·DMF, where MC is metallacrown, shi3− is salicyl­hydroximate, and DMF is N,N-di­methyl­formamide, crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/n. Two crystallographically independent metallacrown anions are present in the structure, and both anions exhibit minor main mol­ecule disorder by an approximate (non-crystallographic) 180° rotation with occupancy ratios of 0.9010 (9) to 0.0990 (9) for one anion and 0.9497 (8) to 0.0503 (8) for the other. Each penta­copper(II) metallacrown contains four CuII ions in the MC ring and a CuII ion captured in the central cavity. Each CuII ion is four-coordinate with a square-planar geometry. The anionic {Cu[12-MCCu(II)N(shi)-4]}2− is charged-balanced by the presence of a cis-[Mn(H2O)2(DMF)4]2+ cation located in the lattice. In addition, the octa­hedral MnII counter-cation is hydrogen bonded to both MC anions via the coordinated water mol­ecules of the MnII ion. The water mol­ecules form hydrogen bonds with the phenolate and carbonyl oxygen atoms of the shi3− ligands of the MCs.

A structural study of TatD from Staphylococcus aureus elucidates a putative DNA-binding mode of a Mg2+-dependent nuclease

TatD has been thoroughly investigated as a DNA-repair enzyme and an apoptotic nuclease, and still-unknown TatD-related DNases are considered to play crucial cellular roles. However, studies of TatD from Gram-positive bacteria have been hindered by an absence of atomic detail and the resulting inability to determine function from structure. In this study, an X-ray crystal structure of SAV0491, which is the TatD enzyme from the Gram-positive bacterium Staphylococcus aureus (SaTatD), is reported at a high resolution of 1.85 Å with a detailed atomic description. Although SaTatD has the common TIM-barrel fold shared by most TatD-related homologs, and PDB entry 2gzx shares 100% sequence identity with SAV0491, the crystal structure of SaTatD revealed a unique binding mode of two phosphates interacting with two Ni2+ ions. Through a functional study, it was verified that SaTatD has Mg2+-dependent nuclease activity as a DNase and an RNase. In addition, structural comparison with TatD homologs and the identification of key residues contributing to the binding mode of Ni2+ ions and phosphates allowed mutational studies to be performed that revealed the catalytic mechanism of SaTatD. Among the key residues composing the active site, the acidic residues Glu92 and Glu202 had a critical impact on catalysis by SaTatD. Furthermore, based on the binding mode of the two phosphates and structural insights, a putative DNA-binding mode of SaTatD was proposed using in silico docking. Overall, these findings may serve as a good basis for understanding the relationship between the structure and function of TatD proteins from Gram-positive bacteria and may provide critical insights into the DNA-binding mode of SaTatD.
