Gabriel-Roiter measure, representation dimension and rejective chains. (arXiv:1903.05555v2 [math.RT] UPDATED)

The Gabriel-Roiter measure is used to give an alternative proof of the finiteness of the representation dimension for Artin algebras, a result established by Iyama in 2002. The concept of Gabriel-Roiter measure can be extended to abelian length categories and every such category has multiple Gabriel-Roiter measures. Using this notion, we prove the following broader statement: given any object $X$ and any Gabriel-Roiter measure $mu$ in an abelian length category $mathcal{A}$, there exists an object $X'$ which depends on $X$ and $mu$, such that $Gamma = operatorname{End}_{mathcal{A}}(X oplus X')$ has finite global dimension. Analogously to Iyama's original results, our construction yields quasihereditary rings and fits into the theory of rejective chains.

Gaussian invariant measures and stationary solutions of 2D Primitive Equations. (arXiv:2005.03339v1 [math.PR])

We introduce a Gaussian measure formally preserved by the 2-dimensional Primitive Equations driven by additive Gaussian noise. Under such measure the stochastic equations under consideration are singular: we propose a solution theory based on the techniques developed by Gubinelli and Jara in cite{GuJa13} for a hyperviscous version of the equations.

An alternate definition of the Parry measure. (arXiv:2005.03282v1 [math.DS])

In this paper, we give an alternate definition of the well-known Parry measure on an aperiodic subshift of finite type using correlation between the forbidden words. We use the concept of the local escape rate to obtain this definition. We also compute Perron eigenvectors corresponding to the Perron root of the associated adjacency matrix.

Pointwise densities of homogeneous Cantor measure and critical values. (arXiv:2005.03269v1 [math.DS])

Let $Nge 2$ and $ hoin(0,1/N^2]$. The homogenous Cantor set $E$ is the self-similar set generated by the iterated function system

[

left{f_i(x)= ho x+frac{i(1- ho)}{N-1}: i=0,1,ldots, N-1 ight}.

]

Let $s=dim_H E$ be the Hausdorff dimension of $E$, and let $mu=mathcal H^s|_E$ be the $s$-dimensional Hausdorff measure restricted to $E$. In this paper we describe, for each $xin E$, the pointwise lower $s$-density $Theta_*^s(mu,x)$ and upper $s$-density $Theta^{*s}(mu, x)$ of $mu$ at $x$. This extends some early results of Feng et al. (2000). Furthermore, we determine two critical values $a_c$ and $b_c$ for the sets

[

E_*(a)=left{xin E: Theta_*^s(mu, x)ge a ight}quad extrm{and}quad E^*(b)=left{xin E: Theta^{*s}(mu, x)le b ight}

] respectively, such that $dim_H E_*(a)>0$ if and only if $a<a_c$, and that $dim_H E^*(b)>0$ if and only if $b>b_c$. We emphasize that both values $a_c$ and $b_c$ are related to the Thue-Morse type sequences, and our strategy to find them relies on ideas from open dynamics and techniques from combinatorics on words.

Approximate Performance Measures for a Two-Stage Reneging Queue. (arXiv:2005.03239v1 [math.PR])

We study a two-stage reneging queue with Poisson arrivals, exponential services, and two levels of exponential reneging behaviors, extending the popular Erlang A model that assumes a constant reneging rate. We derive approximate analytical formulas representing performance measures for the two-stage queue following the Markov chain decomposition approach. Our formulas not only give accurate results spanning the heavy-traffic to the light-traffic regimes, but also provide insight into capacity decisions.

Measuring Social Bias in Knowledge Graph Embeddings. (arXiv:1912.02761v2 [cs.CL] UPDATED)

It has recently been shown that word embeddings encode social biases, with a harmful impact on downstream tasks. However, to this point there has been no similar work done in the field of graph embeddings. We present the first study on social bias in knowledge graph embeddings, and propose a new metric suitable for measuring such bias. We conduct experiments on Wikidata and Freebase, and show that, as with word embeddings, harmful social biases related to professions are encoded in the embeddings with respect to gender, religion, ethnicity and nationality. For example, graph embeddings encode the information that men are more likely to be bankers, and women more likely to be homekeepers. As graph embeddings become increasingly utilized, we suggest that it is important the existence of such biases are understood and steps taken to mitigate their impact.

Speech recognition apparatus with means for preventing errors due to delay in speech recognition

When a speech sound of at least a predetermined sound pressure is externally input while a time measurement is not being performed, a time measuring circuit starts a time measurement responsive to a signal from a speech detector. When another speech sound of at least a predetermined sound pressure is externally input while a time measurement is being performed by the time measuring circuit, a measurement time measured by the time measuring circuit at this moment is stored in a time information memory. After a predetermined time has elapsed, if a speech recognition circuit recognizes that the externally input speech sound is a "stop" command, the time measurement operation performed by the time measuring circuit is stopped, and the time information stored in the time information memory is read out and displayed as measurement time information on a display unit.

Apparatus for measuring intervals between signal edges

An apparatus for measuring a time interval between a start signal edge and a stop signal edge provides a stable clock signal as input to a delay line formed by a series of similar logic gates. The output signal of the last gate of the series is phase locked to the clock signal by adjusting a bias signal controlling the switching speed of all gates. The clock signal and the output signal of each gate form a set of phase distributed periodic timing signals applied to a start time measurement unit (TMU) and a similar stop TMU. The start TMU counts edges of one of the timing signals occurring between an edge of an arming signal and the start signal edge and generates output data representing a time delay between the arming signal and the start signal edge. The data represents the start delay as a whole and fractional number of clock signal periods by conveying the counter output and by indicating which of the timing signals had an edge most closely following the start signal edge. The stop TMU similarly produces output data indicating a whole an fractional number of clock cycles occurring between the arming signal and the stop signal edge. The delay represented by the start TMU output data is subtracted from the delay represented by the stop TMU output data to determine the interval between the start and stop signal edges.

Prefetch optimizer measuring execution time of instruction sequence cycling through each selectable hardware prefetch depth and cycling through disabling each software prefetch instruction of an instruction sequence of interest

A prefetch optimizer tool for an information handling system (IHS) may improve effective memory access time by controlling both hardware prefetch operations and software prefetch operations. The prefetch optimizer tool selectively disables prefetch instructions in an instruction sequence of interest within an application. The tool measures execution times of the instruction sequence of interest when different prefetch instructions are disabled. The tool may hold hardware prefetch depth constant while cycling through disabling different prefetch instructions and taking corresponding execution time measurements. Alternatively, for each disabled prefetch instruction in the instruction sequence of interest, the tool may cycle through different hardware prefetch depths and take corresponding execution time measurements at each hardware prefetch depth. The tool selects a combination of hardware prefetch depth and prefetch instruction disablement that may improve the execution time in comparison with a baseline execution time.
