Dodecan-1-aminium sulfate trihydrate

The asymmetric unit of the title salt, 2C12H28N+·SO42−·3H2O, contains two n-dodecylammonium cations, one sulfate anion and three water molecules. In the crystal, N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the cations and anions into layers parallel to (100). These layers are further connected through O—H⋯O hydrogen-bonding interactions involving the sulfate ions and the isolated water molecules. The three-dimensional structure can also be considered as the superposition of thin inorganic layers of SO42− anions and thick layers of alkylammonium cations perpendicular to the c axis.

Bis(1-dodecyl-4-aza-1-azoniabicyclo[2.2.2]octane)tetraisothiocyanatocobalt(II)

The title compound, [Co(C18H37N2)2(NCS)4], consists of a cobalt(II) ion positioned on the origin of the triclinic unit cell. It is coordinated by the N atoms of two trans-oriented 1-dodecyl-4-aza-1-azoniabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO+) cations, which carry n-dodecyl chains at the non-coordinating N atoms. The distorted octahedral coordination environment of the CoII ion is completed through four N atoms of isothiocyanate ions, which are arranged within the equatorial plane. Non-classical hydrogen bonding of the types C—H⋯N and C—H⋯S between the filamentous molecules lead to the formation of layers parallel to (001).

Crystal structure of tetrakis[μ-3-carboxy-1-(1,2,4-triazol-4-yl)adamantane-κ2N1:N2]tetrafluoridodi-μ2-oxido-dioxidodisilver(I)divanadium(V) tetrahydrate

The crystal structure of the title molecular complex, [Ag2{VO2F2}2(C13H17N3O2)4]·4H2O, supported by the heterofunctional ligand tr-ad-COOH [1-(1,2,4-triazol-4-yl)-3-carboxyadamantane] is reported. Four 1,2,4-triazole groups of the ligand link two AgI atoms, as well as AgI and VV centres, forming the heterobimetallic coordination cluster {AgI2(VVO2F2)2(tr)4}. VV exists as a vanadium oxofluoride anion and possesses a distorted trigonal–bipyramidal coordination environment [VO2F2N]. A carboxylic acid functional group of the ligand stays in a neutral form and is involved in hydrogen bonding with solvent water molecules and VO2F2− ions of adjacent molecules. The extended hydrogen-bonding network is responsible for the crystal packing in the structure.

Synthesis and crystal structure of (1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-κ4N)(tetrasulfido-κ2S1,S4)manganese(II)

The title compound, [Mn(S4)(C8H20N4)], was accidentally obtained by the hydrothermal reaction of Mn(ClO4)2·6H2O, cyclen (cyclen = 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane) and Na3SbS4·9H2O in water at 413 K, indicating that polysulfide anions might represent intermediates in the synthesis of thiometallate compounds using Na3SbS4·9H2O as a reactant. X-ray powder diffraction proves that the sample is slightly contaminated with NaSb(OH)6 and an unknown crystalline phase. The crystal investigated was twinned with a twofold rotation axis as the twin element, and therefore a twin refinement using data in HKLF-5 format was performed. The asymmetric unit of the title compound consists of one MnII cation, one [S4]2− anion and one cyclen ligand in general positions. The MnII cation is sixfold coordinated by two cis-S atoms of the [S4]2− anions, as well as four N atoms of the cyclen ligand within an irregular coordination. The complexes are linked via pairs of N—H⋯S hydrogen bonds into chains, which are further linked into layers by additional N—H⋯S hydrogen bonding. These layers are connected into a three-dimensional network by intermolecular N—H⋯S and C—H⋯S hydrogen bonding. It is noted that only one similar complex with MnII is reported in the literature.

Crystal structure, Hirshfeld surface analysis and DFT studies of 6-bromo-3-(12-bromododecyl)-2-(4-nitrophenyl)-4H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine

The title compound, C24H30Br2N4O2, consists of a 2-(4-nitrophenyl)-4H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine entity with a 12-bromododecyl substituent attached to the pyridine N atom. The middle eight-carbon portion of the side chain is planar to within 0.09 (1) Å and makes a dihedral angle of 21.9 (8)° with the mean plane of the imidazolopyridine moiety, giving the molecule a V-shape. In the crystal, the imidazolopyridine units are associated through slipped π–π stacking interactions together with weak C—HPyr⋯ONtr and C—HBrmdcyl⋯ONtr (Pyr = pyridine, Ntr = nitro and Brmdcyl = bromododecyl) hydrogen bonds. The 12-bromododecyl chains overlap with each other between the stacks. The terminal –CH2Br group of the side chain shows disorder over two resolved sites in a 0.902 (3):0.098 (3) ratio. Hirshfeld surface analysis indicates that the most important contributions for the crystal packing are from H⋯H (48.1%), H⋯Br/Br⋯H (15.0%) and H⋯O/O⋯H (12.8%) interactions. The optimized molecular structure, using density functional theory at the B3LYP/ 6–311 G(d,p) level, is compared with the experimentally determined structure in the solid state. The HOMO–LUMO behaviour was elucidated to determine the energy gap.

4 ways to follow the Dodgers other than on cable TV

File: A general view during player introductions before game one of the National League Division Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Mets at Dodger Stadium on Oct. 9, 2015 in Los Angeles.; Credit: Stephen Dunn/Getty Images

Do you want to track the Dodgers as the new season gets underway, but either don't have cable or are at work during the game? Maybe you want to keep an eye on the boys in blue but have an office job that gives you checks in black and white, and you want to keep your bleeding red for your favorite team from sending your bank account into the red as well. Or maybe you just aren’t going to have access to a TV at the time. Here are four ways to check the Dodgers out this season.

1. Track what’s happening with MLB.com’s free Gameday service

Want to see what’s going on as if the Dodgers game was a video game? You have to pay if you want to watch video (with alternate angles!) or listen to audio with Major League Baseball's MLB.tv service — but you can watch virtual avatars simulating the game with MLB Gameday for free. Just visit MLB.com/scores, then click on the Gameday button beneath the game you want to follow. Or, you can keep it more old school by tracking scores on the scores page — alongside video highlights.

2. Follow what’s going on on Twitter

Want to keep an eye on things but don’t want to stare at a streaming video feed? You can follow what’s happening with Twitter. The Dodgers themselves tweet highlights and results at @Dodgers, plus you can do a search for “Dodgers” or track what’s happening on various popular hashtags, including #Dodgers#ThinkBlue and #ITFDB (It’s Time For Dodgers Baseball).

3. Listen to the radio, over the air or online

The official Dodgers radio broadcaster in L.A. is AM 570 L.A. Sports. As noted above, you can also pay to listen to audio from MLB.tv — but the service isn't available for local, "in-market" games, which are blacked out as part of their contracts with local broadcasters. The Dodgers broadcasts are also available in Spanish on 1020 AM KTNQ.

4. Stream ESPN on your computer, phone or tablet

ESPN lets you watch the opening day game and others throughout the season online... well, some of you, at least. Due to various cable company deals and other red tape, you have to already be a cable subscriber — sorry, cord cutters — but most major cable company subscribers can log in and stream the Dodgers online, or using ESPN's mobile apps available on iOS and Android. That also means you can find a friend who has cable, and team up with them to watch online — or just hang out at their place for the foreseeable future.

Many other Dodgers games throughout the season will be on SportsNet L.A., but you have to subscribe to Charter Spectrum, Time Warner, or Bright House in the L.A. area to get this channel. However, five of the games this season will be shown on KTLA, expanding your options for potentially checking the Dodgers out. You can find out more in the SportsNet L.A. FAQ.

How are you tracking the Dodgers? Let us know in the comments or by tweeting us at @KPCC.

Confessions of a fair-weather Dodgers fan

LOS ANGELES, CA - SEPTEMBER 29: Yasiel Puig #66 of the Los Angeles Dodgers walks onto the field to start the game against the Colorado Rockies at Dodger Stadium on September 29, 2013 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Lisa Blumenfeld/Getty Images); Credit: Lisa Blumenfeld/Getty Images

Patt Morrison

There are 162 games in the regular season of a major league baseball team, and I have watched exactly … hm … none. Spring, summer, autumn, as the Dodgers died and rose from the dead, I wasn’t looking.

But now, like almost everyone else in L.A., I will be cheering them in the playoffs, cheering them to their first World Series game since Michael Dukakis ran for president.

I am that deplorable creature: The fair-weather fan.

I like sports just fine, but my sport is football.

They say baseball is a relaxing game. Boy, is it!  You can eat, doze, eat again, and it’s still the fourth inning. I’ve tried to love baseball, I really have. But the diamond can’t beat the gridiron when it comes to football’s built-in thrill advantage: At any possible second, the football can change hands, the defense becomes the offense … and score!

Just about the best time I ever had at Dodger Stadium was watching the pope round the bases in his Popemobile, when he visited L.A. That was the year before the Dodgers won the World Series for the last time. I hear baseball players are superstitious; maybe it’s time to invite the new pope for a return engagement.

Kitty Felde – now there’s a fan. She’s even written plays about baseball! But she’s way back in the nation’s capital, stuck with the Washington Nationals to root for.

A paradox

It’s a paradox, really. I’ve interviewed the former Dodgers owner, Peter O’Malley, who is a truly wonderful man. I’ve interviewed Carl Erskine, the Dodgers pitcher who goes back to the Brooklyn days, and a sweeter guy you could never meet. I know Roz Wyman, the First Fan, the city councilwoman who worked the magic to bring the Dodgers here from Brooklyn.  I interviewed the McCourts, back when they were still a plural. The L.A. Times once sent me to write about Fernando Valenzuela’s hometown in Mexico, back when El Zurdo started burning up the mound at Chavez Ravine. And I sat with that gift of a man, Vin Scully, at Dodger Stadium, as the team warmed up on the jewel-box beautiful field.

None of that made a true baseball believer of me. Instead, I pine like Juliet for a pro football team. O Dodgers, Dodgers, wherefore art thou the Dodgers, and not the Green Bay Packers?

But I would be thrilled if the Dodgers took the whole baseball enchilada – thrilled, because I am an Angeleno, and the Dodgers are that rare civic institution that ties us all together, even if you don’t know a base hit from base ten.

And that makes me as entitled as the next local to put on my Dodger Blue and holler my heart out, and cheer them all the way to the World Series.

Dodge the Arrow - The Broadcast

Among those now with my deep respect… Caitlin Krisko and her band mates in the band The Broadcast. “And being in NYC we realized financially speaking we couldn’t afford to do that.
