Recent developments in the Inorganic Crystal Structure Database: theoretical crystal structure data and related features

The Inorganic Crystal Structure Database (ICSD) is the world's largest database of fully evaluated and published crystal structure data, mostly obtained from experimental results. However, the purely experimental approach is no longer the only route to discover new compounds and structures. In the past few decades, numerous computational methods for simulating and predicting structures of inorganic solids have emerged, creating large numbers of theoretical crystal data. In order to take account of these new developments the scope of the ICSD was extended in 2017 to include theoretical structures which are published in peer-reviewed journals. Each theoretical structure has been carefully evaluated, and the resulting CIF has been extended and standardized. Furthermore, a first classification of theoretical data in the ICSD is presented, including additional categories used for comparison of experimental and theoretical information.

The Department of Justice announced today that it is requiring United Technologies Corporation (UTC) and Raytheon Company (Raytheon) to divest Raytheon’s military airborne radios business and UTC’s military global positioning systems (“GPS”) and large space-based optical systems businesses in order to proceed with their proposed merger.  Without these divestitures, the merger would eliminate competition between two of the primary suppliers of military airborne radios and military GPS systems to the Department of Defense (DoD), and enable the merged firm to lessen competition for multiple components used in reconnaissance satellites sold to DoD and the wider U.S. intelligence community.

The importance to society of environmental services, provided by forest ecosystems, has significantly increased during the last few decades. A growing global concern with the deterioration of forests, beginning perhaps most noticeably in the 1980s, has led to an increasing public awareness of the environmental, cultural, economic, and social values that forests provide. Around the world, ideas of sustainable, close-to-nature, and multi-functional forestry have progressively replaced the older perception of forests as only a source for timber. The international impetus to protect and sustainably manage forests has come from global initiatives at management, conservation, and sustainable development related to all types of forests and forestry. A Marstrand type slicing theorem for subsets of $mathbb{Z}^2 subset mathbb{R}^2$ with the mass dimension. (arXiv:2005.02813v2 [math.CO] UPDATED)

We prove a Marstrand type slicing theorem for the subsets of the integer square lattice. This problem is the dual of the corresponding projection theorem, which was considered by Glasscock, and Lima and Moreira, with the mass and counting dimensions applied to subsets of $mathbb{Z}^{d}$. In this paper, more generally we deal with a subset of the plane that is $1$ separated, and the result for subsets of the integer lattice follow as a special case. We show that the natural slicing question in this setting is true with the mass dimension.

Set theoretic Yang-Baxter & reflection equations and quantum group symmetries. (arXiv:2003.08317v3 [math-ph] UPDATED)

Connections between set theoretic Yang-Baxter and reflection equations and quantum integrable systems are investigated. We show that set theoretic $R$-matrices are expressed as twists of known solutions. We then focus on reflection and twisted algebras and we derive the associated defining algebra relations for $R$-matrices being Baxterized solutions of the $A$-type Hecke algebra ${cal H}_N(q=1)$. We show in the case of the reflection algebra that there exists a "boundary" finite sub-algebra for some special choice of "boundary" elements of the $B$-type Hecke algebra ${cal B}_N(q=1, Q)$. We also show the key proposition that the associated double row transfer matrix is essentially expressed in terms of the elements of the $B$-type Hecke algebra. This is one of the fundamental results of this investigation together with the proof of the duality between the boundary finite subalgebra and the $B$-type Hecke algebra. These are universal statements that largely generalize previous relevant findings, and also allow the investigation of the symmetries of the double row transfer matrix.

A one-loop exact quantization of Chern-Simons theory. (arXiv:1910.05230v2 [math-ph] UPDATED)

We examine Chern-Simons theory as a deformation of a 3-dimensional BF theory that is partially holomorphic and partially topological. In particular, we introduce a novel gauge that leads naturally to a one-loop exact quantization of this BF theory and Chern-Simons theory. This approach illuminates several important features of Chern-Simons theory, notably the bulk-boundary correspondence of Chern-Simons theory with chiral WZW theory. In addition to rigorously constructing the theory, we also explain how it applies to a large class of closely related 3-dimensional theories and some of the consequences for factorization algebras of observables.

This work has been motivated by recent papers that quantify the density of values of generic quadratic forms and other polynomials at integer points, in particular ones that use Rogers' second moment estimates. In this paper we establish such results in a very general framework. Namely, given any subhomogeneous function (a notion to be defined) $f: mathbb{R}^n o mathbb{R}$, we derive a necessary and sufficient condition on the approximating function $psi$ for guaranteeing that a generic element $fcirc g$ in the $G$-orbit of $f$ is $psi$-approximable; that is, $|fcirc g(mathbf{v})| le psi(|mathbf{v}|)$ for infinitely many $mathbf{v} in mathbb{Z}^n$. We also deduce a sufficient condition in the case of uniform approximation. Here, $G$ can be any closed subgroup of $operatorname{ASL}_n(mathbb{R})$ satisfying certain axioms that allow for the use of Rogers-type estimates.

Special subvarieties of non-arithmetic ball quotients and Hodge Theory. (arXiv:2005.03524v1 [math.AG])

Let $Gamma subset operatorname{PU}(1,n)$ be a lattice, and $S_Gamma$ the associated ball quotient. We prove that, if $S_Gamma$ contains infinitely many maximal totally geodesic subvarieties, then $Gamma$ is arithmetic. We also prove an Ax-Schanuel Conjecture for $S_Gamma$, similar to the one recently proven by Mok, Pila and Tsimerman. One of the main ingredients in the proofs is to realise $S_Gamma$ inside a period domain for polarised integral variations of Hodge structures and interpret totally geodesic subvarieties as unlikely intersections.

A theory of stacks with twisted fields and resolution of moduli of genus two stable maps. (arXiv:2005.03384v1 [math.AG])

We construct a smooth moduli stack of tuples consisting of genus two nodal curves, line bundles, and twisted fields. It leads to a desingularization of the moduli of genus two stable maps to projective spaces. The construction of this new moduli is based on systematical application of the theory of stacks with twisted fields (STF), which has its prototype appeared in arXiv:1906.10527 and arXiv:1201.2427 and is fully developed in this article. The results of this article are the second step of a series of works toward the resolutions of the moduli of stable maps of higher genera.
