Important

CVE-2024-43451 | NTLM Hash Disclosure Spoofing Vulnerability

CVE-2024-43451 is a NTLM hash spoofing vulnerability in Microsoft Windows. It was assigned a CVSSv3 score of 6.5 and is rated as important. An attacker could exploit this flaw by convincing a user to open a specially crafted file. Successful exploitation would lead to the unauthorized disclosure of a user’s NTLMv2 hash, which an attacker could then use to authenticate to the system as the user. According to Microsoft, CVE-2024-43451 was exploited in the wild as a zero-day. No further details about this vulnerability were available at the time this blog post was published.

This is the second NTLM spoofing vulnerability disclosed in 2024. Microsoft patched CVE-2024-30081 in its July Patch Tuesday release.

Important

CVE-2024-49039 | Windows Task Scheduler Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability

CVE-2024-49039 is an EoP vulnerability in the Microsoft Windows Task Scheduler. It was assigned a CVSSv3 score of 8.8 and is rated as important. An attacker with local access to a vulnerable system could exploit this vulnerability by running a specially crafted application. Successful exploitation would allow an attacker to access resources that would otherwise be unavailable to them as well as execute code, such as remote procedure call (RPC) functions.

According to Microsoft, CVE-2024-49039 was exploited in the wild as a zero-day. It was disclosed to Microsoft by an anonymous researcher along with Vlad Stolyarov and Bahare Sabouri of Google's Threat Analysis Group. At the time this blog post was published, no further details about in-the-wild exploitation were available.

Important

CVE-2024-49019 | Active Directory Certificate Services Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability

CVE-2024-49019 is an EoP vulnerability affecting Active Directory Certificate Services. It was assigned a CVSSv3 score of 7.8 and is rated as important. It was publicly disclosed prior to a patch being made available. According to Microsoft, successful exploitation would allow an attacker to gain administrator privileges. The advisory notes that “certificates created using a version 1 certificate template with Source of subject name set to ‘Supplied in the request’” are potentially impacted if the template has not been secured according to best practices. This vulnerability is assessed as “Exploitation More Likely” according to Microsoft’s Exploitability Index. Microsoft’s advisory also includes several mitigation steps for securing certificate templates which we highly recommend reviewing.

Important

CVE-2024-49040 | Microsoft Exchange Server Spoofing Vulnerability

CVE-2024-49040 is a spoofing vulnerability affecting Microsoft Exchange Server 2016 and 2019. It was assigned a CVSSv3 score of 7.5 and rated as important. According to Microsoft, this vulnerability was publicly disclosed prior to a patch being made available. After applying the update, administrators should review the support article Exchange Server non-RFC compliant P2 FROM header detection. The supplemental guide notes that as part of a “secure by default” approach, the Exchange Server update for November will flag suspicious emails which may contain “malicious patterns in the P2 FROM header.” While this feature can be disabled, Microsoft strongly recommends leaving it enabled to provide further protection from phishing attempts and malicious emails.

Critical

CVE-2024-43639 | Windows Kerberos Remote Code Execution Vulnerability

CVE-2024-43639 is a critical RCE vulnerability affecting Windows Kerberos, an authentication protocol designed to verify user or host identities. It was assigned a CVSSv3 score of 9.8 and is rated as “Exploitation Less Likely.”

To exploit this vulnerability, an unauthenticated attacker needs to leverage a cryptographic protocol vulnerability in order to achieve RCE. No further details were provided by Microsoft about this vulnerability at the time this blog was published.

Important

29 CVEs | SQL Server Native Client Remote Code Execution Vulnerability

This month's release included 29 CVEs for RCEs affecting SQL Server Native Client. All of these CVEs received CVSSv3 scores of 8.8 and were rated as “Exploitation Less Likely.” Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities can be achieved by convincing an authenticated user into connecting to a malicious SQL server database using an affected driver. A full list of the CVEs are included in the table below.

CVE-2024-43602 is a RCE vulnerability in Microsoft’s Azure CycleCloud, a tool that helps in managing and orchestrating High Performance Computing (HPC) environments in Azure. This flaw received the highest CVSSv3 score of the month, a 9.9 and was rated as important. A user with basic permissions could exploit CVE-2024-43602 by sending specially crafted requests to a vulnerable AzureCloud CycleCloud cluster to modify its configuration. Successful exploitation would result in the user gaining root permissions, which could then be used to execute commands on any cluster in the Azure CycleCloud as well as steal admin credentials.

Yarn (November 13, 2024 8:00pm)

Event Begins: Wednesday, November 13, 2024 8:00pm
Location: ARK Reserved
Organized By: Michigan Union Ticket Office (MUTO)

“These artists know when to add country fuel & when to keep the rock n’ roll octane soaking slowly.” –Americana Highways

You might expect a band that calls itself Yarn to, naturally, tend to spin a yarn or two. “That’s what we do, we tell stories, live and in the studio, truth and fiction”, singer/songwriter Blake Christiana insists. “We don’t always opt for consistency. There’s a different vibe onstage from what comes through in our recordings. There’s a difference in every show as well, you never know what you’re going to get.”

Yarn’s ability to persevere ought to come as no great surprise, especially for a band that spent two years honing their chops during a Monday night residency at the famed Kenny’s Castaway in New York’s Greenwich Village. In effect, it allowed them to rehearse onstage, mostly in front of audiences that often ranged in size from five to a hundred people on any given night. 10 studio albums followed. The band then took to the road, playing upwards of 170 shows a year at any number of prestigious venues. They have landed on the Grammy ballot 4 times, garnered nods from the Americana Music Association, placed top five on both Radio and Records and the AMA album charts, been streamed millions of times on Spotify, and accorded the “Download of the Day” from Rolling Stone. Shine the Light On found shared songwriting credits with John Oates (the Oates of Hall & Oates fame), and when audiences expressed their admiration, it brought the band a populist cult following of diehard devotees, popularly known as “the Yarmy.”

It’s proof positive that the Brooklyn and Raleigh based band have made their mark, and in dealing with their emotions, scars and circumstances, they find themselves in a position to share those experiences with others who have juggled similar sentiments.

Nikolaas Kende, piano & Jolente De Maeyer, violin (November 13, 2024 7:30pm)

Event Begins: Wednesday, November 13, 2024 7:30pm
Location: Earl V. Moore Building
Organized By: School of Music, Theatre & Dance

Guest artists Nikolaas Kende, piano & Jolente De Maeyer, violin, perform a program including music by Stravinsky, Lera Auerbach, and Beethoven (“Kretzer” sonata).

GUEST ARTIST BIOS

One of the leading Belgian violinists, JOLENTE De MAEYER, has brought her virtuosity and passionate interpretations to diverse global audiences. She is recognized as an exceptionally gifted artist, reflected in the numerous awards and effusive reviews she has received for both her live performances and recordings.

Prizewinner of several international competitions in Portugal (Cardona Competition), Russia (Liana Issakadze Competition) and London (Benjamin Britten Competition), the international career of Jolente started with a successful participation at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels. Performances with all major Belgian orchestras and concert tours in Europe and the United States followed. She made her debut in Florida, Vermont, California, Washington DC and Canada in 2017. This was followed by an extensive tour in South Africa. Future engagements include concert tours in Europe, Canada, United States and China.

Her recordings include concerti by Saint-Saëns and Vieuxtemps with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège with Christian Arming, awarded an ‘Editors Choice’ from Diapason, and the CD *Kreutzer Sonata* with duo partner Nikolaas Kende, awarded a ‘Gold Label’ from Klassiek Centraal.

After an invitation from Yehudi Menuhin when she was 14 years old, Jolente studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School near London. She continued her studies in London, Berlin and Waterloo where she graduated in the class of Augustin Dumay in 2013.

Since 2018 Jolente is professor violin at the Conservatory of Tilburg, the Netherlands and since 2021 also at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp. Jolente has given masterclasses in Belgium, Germany, Italy, Texas and California.

“Poet in every inch of his fingers” - *Le Progres*

NIKOLAAS KENDE has been praised for his poetic playing and honest, passionate musicality. Critics have honored his sensitive and visionary musicianship and his flawless skills always serving the music. Both as soloist and chamber musician he is a highly demanded pianist on international concert stages.

A winner of several competitions, including the Cantabile, EPTA, Vriendenkrans Concertgebouw Amsterdam and Tenuto competitions, Nikolaas started performing in all major halls in Belgium and the Netherlands. Highlights included the performances of the piano concertos by Brahms, Beethoven, Chopin, Schumann and Bartok with Brussels Philharmonic, Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, National Radio Orchestra Romania, among others.

After a concert at the Festival de Dansa y Musica Granada in 2019 *Ideal* wrote: "This promising pianist caresses the keyboard, expressive with colors and tender with the melody and all the degrees of affection that typify the romantic soul."

Besides being a regular guest at the Festival of Flanders, he has also performed at festivals in Italy (Ravello, Rome, Bari), France (Menton, Montpellier, Vexin), Portugal (Coimbra), Germany (Görlitz, Munich, Bad Berleburg) , Austria (Salzburg), Ireland (Westport), UK (Cotswolds), Czech Republic (Prague), Spain (Zaragoza, Madrid).

Nikolaas made his debut in America in 2009 with the 1st piano concerto of Brahms. This debut was well received in the press, “One could almost imagine a young Brahms at the keyboard doing precisely the same thing: more intent on communicating his piece than dazzling listeners with his performance.” Since then he has returned to America annually and has toured in Texas (Houston, Austin, San Antonio), California (San Francisco, Fresno, LA) and Vermont, Florida, California, Texas, Washington DC and New York. In 2019 amongst others his debut for the 'Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concerts' in Chicago. He also performed in the Netherlands Antilles, Canada and South Africa, where several tours followed.

In 2018 he made his debut in China with recitals in Bejijng, Harbin, Chongqing and Chengdu. Concerts in Shanghai, Xi'An, Yangzhou and Guangzhou followed in 2019. Also for the next seasons, concerts are planned in North America, Canada, South Africa and China.

As a chamber music partner he was a member of the Narziss und Goldmund trio and the Rubens Ensemble. His duo with violinist Jolente De Maeyer, which exists for almost 20 years, is often praised in the press for its exceptional synergy and harmony. The duo's debut CD *Kreutzer Sonata* was released by Warner and won a Golden Label from Klassiek Centraal for best chamber music album of 2016. De Standaard wrote about this: "You want to listen to this captivating recital album again immediately after the last track." In 2020 their next CD *Remains* was released by Evil Penguin Records.

Nikolaas studied in Antwerp with his parents, Heidi Hendrickx and Levente Kende, in Amsterdam with Jan Wijn and in Munich and Fiesole with Elisso Virsaladze. In addition he studied with such artists as Murray Perahia, Aldo Ciccolini and Radu Lupu.

In 2015, Nikolaas was appointed professor of piano at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp. He has given masterclasses in Belgium, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Texas, California and China.
