6 Simple Steps for Getting Things Done at Your Small Business

Your 6-Step Guide to Successful Project Management

1. Define your goal and get buy-in from all project team members.

As you do this, you will want to determine each team member’s role and responsibilities. In this step, also consider how the project will affect your company and how you’ll measure the projects impact.

2. Determine the project deliverables.

What key tasks do team members need to accomplish to move the project along the path to completion? You will also need to identify which deliverables depend on other deliverables, so you can establish a timeline that puts tasks in a logical order.

Keep These 4 Things in Mind Before Selling Your Small Business

Selling a small business for the maximum value to the right purchasers on the right terms can be a tremendous challenge, even for experienced business owners. Buying and selling an existing company is a complex process, but one that should be demystified. At its most basic level, the process is straightforward, just like the purchase of a single item. The small-business owner sells the object (in this case, their own business) to a potential buyer for an agreed-upon price and mutually acceptable terms. Yet, as always, the devil is in the details -- in this case how the deal is structured.

5 Things You Can Do Right Now to Prepare for the Post-Coronavirus Business World

Social distancing. Telemedicine. Self-quarantine. These are all words that at the start of 2020 weren't part of our vocabulary, but several months into the new decade we are all hearing and using them daily. There is no denying that the coronavirus outbreak has dramatically changed just about every facet of just about every person’s life around the world.

From a business perspective, the stock market saw its largest one day loss and largest one day gain in history. The U.S. saw the largest job-loss report ever. We are in uncharted waters, and how long we will remain in them remains uncertain. However, there is one thing that we all know, and that is that this outbreak will change the lives of everyone for years or decades to come. Nearly 20 years after 9-11, enhanced airport security, no-fly lists and counterterrorism efforts are still the norm. The same will be true of the COVID-19 aftermath. Is your business ready for the five largest macro trends we are about to see?

1. The rise of enhanced websites and digital tools
2. Cybersecurity concerns take center stage
3. An increase in virtual meetings
4. Increased control in expenses
5. Even more remote employees

In which I can now worry significantly less about something terrible happening to 126 things...

I spent yesterday in Dallas, at the Heritage Auction headquarters -- I had decided to auction off some artwork and memorabilia to benefit two charities (The Authors Literary Fund and the Hero Initiative, which help authors/writers and comics creators who have fallen on hard times or who need help), and, just as importantly, I wanted to give something back to the artists whose art I was entrusting to new custodians.

It seems to me fundamentally wrong and inequitable that art that artists sold for $50 or a hundred dollars thirty or forty years ago now sells for hundreds or thousands of times that amount, but the artists, most of whom are old, some of whom are no longer working or not working as they were, never see another penny. I decided the best way to change that would be to set an example, and show people another way of doing it.

Here's the New York Times article before the auction: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/23/arts/design/neil-gaiman-auction-collectibles.html?unlocked_article_code=1.Xk0.5PkB.9iQtuvn6Bwof&smid=url-share

And here's me in Dallas two nights ago, walking around the exhibition before the auction with Robert Wilonsky from Heritage, with guest appearances by my oldest friend Geoff Notkin, whose fault this all is

and for the very curious, the whole live auction is also up on YouTube. I tell a lot of stories about the things that are up for auction.

The auction made a lot of money, and it's going to do a lot of good, and that makes me very happy. Thank you to all the lovely helpful people at Heritage Auctions, to all of the bidders, lucky or otherwise, and to all of the artists, craftspeople and geniuses without whom it could never have happened.

7 Things You Must Do If You Want To Increase Your Traffic

7 Things You Must Do If You Want To Increase Your Traffic
- By Jo Han Mok

Gary Halbert once said that the ONLY advantage he wanted when it came to selling burgers was not abetter sauce, or better grade of beef, but a STARVING CROWD.
It' s a simple concept, but not many people get it.

#1. Find and Know Your Starving Crowd
You can have the greatest product in the world, but still sell squat if no one wants to buy your product.Who are your potential buyers? Do you know them like the back of your hand? KNOW your buyers. Head down to http://www.Overture.com , type in your keywords and take furious notes!

#2. Power Position Yourself
Understand that people online are looking for information. They don't want information from just anyone. They want good, solid information from people who have been there, done that. If you can provide valuable advice to your prospects, you can be sure that they'll begin to trust you and develop a RELATIONSHIP with you. And just how do you position yourself as an expert? Easy, Become one.
Once you develop a reputation as an expert, the traffic will come in flocks. People NEED help. Help from experts. Are you an expert? : - )

#3. Create an Epidemic
Imagine this. What if you could get a super sales manto spend 24 hours everyday, 7 days every week, 52 weeks every year, for the rest of your life... a salesman who never gets sick or tired and all he does is direct hordes and hordes of targeted traffic to your site?
Don't even try to estimate the astounding value someone like this would bring to your business.
It is possible, and it's called viral marketing. It's the most powerful concept on the Internet. Many have tried using it and many have failed miserably.
People have this misconception that as long as they have an ebook that is "brandable", it constitutes a viral marketing campaign.
They are dead wrong.

#4. Steal Traffic from Someone Else
Got you. Of course, there are ethical ways to do that. The most powerful way, is through a JV or JointVenture. A JV does not mean shooting an email to someone in your field of high repute saying "Hey,wanna do business with me?"
You're in for a big disappointment if you think that's gonna work. Your potential JV partner is a human as well, and chances are, he/she is a SOMEBODY in yourfield. So make your JV proposal as benefit laden, and"hands free" for your potential partner as possible. Recognize your JV partner's accomplishments, begenerous with your praise and above all, be sincere.
But never be afraid to ASK. If you don't A-S-K, you will never G-E-T.

#5. Become A Marketing PI
Here's Industrial Espionage 101. The magic word? Forums.
Forums will show you exactly what your target market is unhappy about and the problems they have. Lurk around forums. LISTEN. Forget about YOUR problems and listen to other people's problems. Solve those problems. I guarantee you'll become rich. Zig Ziglar said, the way to achieve success is to help others get what they want.

#6. Expired Domains Do More Than Expire
You can always use expired domain names as a great source of traffic. Search the expired domain databases, look on EBay. Some web hosts now allow multiple domains to park on a single account. Take advantage of that.

#7. Transform Words into Traffic
Articles are the best "Traffic Machines" that work for ANYONE- no matter what product, service, or information they're selling.
You get 100% targeted traffic, FREE! And, they position you as an expert, and improve your link popularity. Plus, articles are really easy to write as well.
If you have never written an article, go try writing one NOW!
All 7 steps above seem really easy. It's one thing to read and go "ahh" and another thing to read those steps and actually take solid action. Nothing will happen until you take action. No action equals no traffic, equals no sales, equals no money to pay the rent.
Go for it!
Find out how to get laser targeted traffic by thethousands in the next 7 minutes! ==> http://www.InstantVisitorSurge.com/a/?id=840

Two Things Learned

3 great days in Nashville. 2 lousy days in airports. But it was a great getaway.

After taking the listing I had of that side of the family, I realized a couple of things:

(1) The research I have done and questioning of older ancestors many years ago was quite comprehensive. There was not much our relatives were able to add to that. I guess that's both good and bad.

(2) It is hard in the Behold listing to easily find siblings in the same generation when they are far from each other because of their descendants intervening. There is not much indentation for generation levels, and there's nothing on the paper that can help you find the next sibling.

That latter point is something I have thought about for awhile. My original concept was to draw lines on the left margin to connect parents with their children. But implementing that was non-trivial, especially when I wanted it to appear the same when printed and when exported to HTML or RTF. But I think I will want to try to implement that before beta if I can.
