A embroidery clamp for thick fabric includes a movable clamping window support that is pivotally connected to a frame and extends around a pivotal axis. A stretching system to stretch a canvas or material on a frame without the use of stretching pliers and staples. Special purpose corner clamps are used to secure the stretcher bars into an initial open miter frame to orient the double sided adhesive strip on the side of the stretchers towards the canvas or material while maintaining the adhesive strip from touching the canvas or material. After alignment, the stretching bars are pressed down and attached onto the canvas or material and the corners are released. The corner clamps are removed and canvas or material corners are cut and folded into the open miter ends which also have adhesive strips. First and second arms extend from the respective transition portions in a direction away from the vertical axis. First and second fingers extend from the respective arms in a direction toward the horizontal axis. First and second hooks extend from the respective fingers in a direction toward the vertical axis.

A surgical cassette clamping system includes a mounting plate having a first side and a second side. A bracket system may be disposed adjacent the first side of the mounting plate. A clamp motor may be disposed adjacent the mounting plate and fixed relative to the mounting plate. The clamp motor may be operably connected to the bracket system to displace the bracket system relative to the mounting plate. The system may also include a plurality of pivot arms pivotably connected to the bracket system and extending adjacent the second side of the mounting plate. Further, the split ring structure is configured to form a c-shaped saddle support strap by the plurality of nuts.

A clamping device for mounting a sink to a counter, includes a clamp having a clamp body and a binding tab, a binding post for insertion through a first opening in the clamp body and into a hole in a surface of the sink adjacent to a clamped article, the clamp and binding tab connected to the post and extending away therefrom at least partially over an edge of the clamped article, and a clamp screw for insertion through a second opening in the clamp body and against a solid portion of the binding tab interposed between the clamp screw and the edge of the clamped article.

A band clamp includes an elongated band having a base portion which in cross section extends in a plane and first and second side portions. Delayed umbilical cord clamping in premature infants has been associated with decreased rates of intraventricular hemorrhage; however, the mechanisms that explain this finding have not been described.

Premature infants with delayed umbilical cord clamping have improved superior vena cava blood flow over the first days of life. This may provide one of the mechanism(s) by which this technique reduces the incidence in intraventricular hemorrhage in this at-risk population. (Read the full article)

Preterm infants are at a high risk for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). Several postnatal factors are well known to be associated with ROP. However, the relationships between antenatal or maternal risk factors and ROP are poorly understood.

This study used a large cohort database to study the influence of maternal gestational hypertension and preeclampsia on ROP in preterm infants. The results showed that preeclampsia, but not gestational hypertension, was associated with a reduced risk of ROP in preterm births. (Read the full article)

Delaying cord clamping beyond 30 to 60 seconds after birth seems beneficial for all infants due to blood transfusion from placenta. Experimental data have demonstrated that ventilation implemented before cord clamping improved cardiovascular stability by increasing pulmonary blood flow.

Pre-eclampsia (PE)-induced fetal programming predisposes offspring to health hazards in adult life. Here, we tested the hypothesis that pre-eclamptic fetal programming elicits sexually dimorphic inflammatory and cardiovascular complications to endotoxemia in adult rat offspring. PE was induced by oral administration of L-NAME (50 mg/kg per day for seven consecutive days) starting from day 14 of conception. Cardiovascular studies were performed in conscious adult male and female offspring preinstrumented with femoral indwelling catheters. Compared with non-PE male counterparts, intravenous administration of lipopolysaccharide (LPS, 5 mg/kg) to PE male offspring caused significantly greater 1) falls in blood pressure, 2) increases in heart rate, 3) rises in arterial dP/dtmax, a correlate of left ventricular contractility, and 4) decreases in time- and frequency-domain indices of heart rate variability (HRV). By contrast, the hypotensive and tachycardic actions of LPS in female offspring were independent of the pre-eclamptic state and no clear changes in HRV or dP/dtmax were noted. Measurement of arterial baroreflex activity by vasoactive method revealed no sex specificity in baroreflex dysfunction induced by LPS. Immunohistochemical studies showed increased protein expression of toll-like receptor 4 in heart as well as in brainstem neuronal pools of the nucleus of solitary tract and rostral ventrolateral medulla in endotoxic PE male, but not female, offspring. Enhanced myocardial, but not neuronal, expression of monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 was also demonstrated in LPS-treated male offspring. Together, pre-eclamptic fetal programming aggravates endotoxic manifestations of hypotension and autonomic dysfunction in male offspring via exacerbating myocardial and neuromedullary inflammatory pathways.
