Patrick Lauke (2007)

Patrick Lauke currently works as Web Editor for the University of Salford, where he heads a small central Web team. In 2003 he implemented one of the first Web standards based XHTML/CSS driven UK university sites. He has been engaged in the discourse on accessibility since early 2001, regularly contributing to a variety of Web development and accessibility related mailing lists and forums. He also takes an active role in the running of Accessify.com, moderates the Accessify forum, and is co-lead of the Web Standards Project Accessibility Task Force (WaSP ATF), which he joined in June 2005. An outspoken accessibility and standards advocate, Patrick favours a pragmatic hands-on approach to Web accessibility over purely theoretical, high-level discussions. "I'm an idealist by nature, but a pragmatist by trade. I'd never class myself as an expert and I certainly don't have all the answers...I'm just an opinionated guy eager to find real world solutions 'where the rubber meets the road'." Published works include a chapter in Web Accessibility: Web Standards and Regulatory Compliance, released by Friends of Ed in 2006. In his spare time, Patrick pursues his passion for photography and runs a small Web/design consultancy. Patrick facilitated a workshop session on "Geolinked Institutional Web Content" with Sebastian Rahtz and Nigel Bradley.

Paul Browning (2002)

Paul Browning is Information Strategy Co-ordinator at the University of Bristol (but was an earth scientist who ran a departmental network in a former life). He is a member of the institutional Web Team and is fed up using a bucket and spade to build and maintain the University Web; he has been on the lookout for a JCB and thinks he might have found one in the form of Zope. Paul is co-author of the JISC TechWatch Report on Content Management Systems. Most likely to say: "Can I have the keys to your information silo?" Least likely to say: "I think yet another portal is a smart idea." Paul has been invited to give a talk on Portals and CMS - Why You Need Them Both following the cancellation on the talk on The My.Sunderland Portal: A Case Study. Paul is also taking part in a panel session on Avoiding Portal Wars.

Paul Miller (2006)

Paul Miller is a technology evangelist for Talis. Paul joined Talis in September 2005 from the CIE, where as Director he was instrumental in scoping policy and attracting new members such as the BBC, National Library of Scotland and English Heritage to this group of UK public sector organisations. Previously, Paul worked at UKOLN where he was active in a range of cross-domain standardisation and advocacy activities, and before that he was Collections Manager at the Archaeology Data Service. At Talis, Paul is exploring new models of collaboration and identifying further areas in which our technology or knowledge would be of value. Paul Boag has been working on the web since 1993. He is a user experience consultant for Headscape Ltd, a web design agency that he founded back in 2002. He typically works on large institutional websites including government agencies, higher education institutions and heritage organisations. Paul also produces and hosts the longest running and popular web design podcast at boagworld.com. He is regularly speaker at workshops and conferences and writes for various publications. Paul will be giving a plenary talk entitled "No money? No matter - Improve your website with next to no cash".

Gareth Saunders (2008)

The Revd Gareth Saunders interests lie primarily in information architecture, XHTML, CSS, accessibility, usability and helping to make sure that people can find the information they are looking for. Gareth studied Divinity (Practical Theology and Christian Ethics) at St Mary's College, University of St Andrews; he then had jobs in a Borders textile mill and with homeless young people in London before returning to Scotland to complete a Masters at New College, University of Edinburgh and work as a Scottish Episcopalian priest in Inverness and Edinburgh. In 2006 Gareth made the seamless transition from full-time parish ministry to focus on the Web and Information Architecture: having pastoral care for Web users, if you like. He is a member of the Information Architecture Institute and is a regular blogger. Gareth facilitated a workshop on "Mind Mapping for Effective Content Management" with Stephen Evans.

Australia builds on its strengths as a top 10 foreign investment target

Australia remains a top 10 global destination for foreign direct investment (FDI) for a third straight year after attracting US$50 billion in foreign direct investment in 2013, according to the UN Conference on Trade and Development’s (UNCTAD) World Investment Report 2014. Over the three years to 2013, FDI flows to Australia rose nearly 55 per cent to US$171 billion from US$110 billion over the previous three years. This impressive growth has expanded Australia’s share of global FDI inflows to 3.8 per cent in 2011-13 from 2.5 per cent in 2008-10. In contrast, developed economies’ share of world FDI inflows fell to 44 per cent in 2011-13 from 53 per cent in 2008-10.
