isa Where did it go? Disable Hardware Graphics Acceleration By www.msoutlook.info Published On :: Fri, 11 Mar 2022 13:46:12 +0000 I’m getting some weird graphics anomalies with my screen when using Outlook. For instance, the screen suddenly turns completely black or white, and when I move over those spaces with my mouse, the Outlook UI starts to appear again but only in those places. At other times, text in the Ribbon and Folder Pane overlap or folders appear empty even when they are not. Restarting Outlook fixes it temporarily but I’d like to fix it permanently. I was recommended to “disable hardware graphics acceleration” but I can’t find that option anywhere. How do I solve this issue? Full Article Background info Configuring Interface

He has played 390 games for Washington, most of them at second base. But on Tuesday he was absent, a glaring void next to his normal spot alongside teammate Ian Desmond’s stall. Around the room loud music blasted from the stereo system after a thrilling 3-2 comeback win over the New York Mets on Tuesday night. Espinosa wasn’t there to enjoy it. Full Article

isa Disabling In-App Review Requests on iOS By www.applevis.com Published On :: Fri, 01 Mar 2024 15:25:13 +0000 Tired of apps interrupting you with requests to rate and review? This episode with Thomas Domville will show you how to take control. This iOS feature lets app developers ask you to rate and review their apps directly within the app. While helpful for developers, these pop-ups can be a nuisance , especially if they appear frequently. How to Disable In-App Ratings & Reviews:Find the Native Settings app and Double Tap to Open Settings Now Swipe Right until you find the AppStore button and Double Tap to open Locate by swiping right until you get to the "In-App Ratings & Reviews" and toggle the switch to the off position (Remember: Disabling this feature only stops the in-app prompts. You can still search for apps in the App Store and leave ratings and reviews manually if you'd like to share your feedback.transcription: Disclaimer: This transcript is generated by AIKO, an automated transcription service. It is not edited or formatted, and it may not accurately capture the speakers’ names, voices, or content. Hello and welcome. My name is Thomas Donville also known as AnonyMouse.Hey have you been in this position where like myself I keep opening up different apps and it just seems like one form or another is always popping up hey would you like to review this app and give the app some rating and you know I do this every so often and when I'm in a good mood or whatever not or if I feel like the app really deserved to have a rating I want to go ahead and give that rating but the thing I don't like is that it just keeps coming up every so often so I feel like that there needs to be a balance and I need to and I will vote and give you a rating when I am ready to do that so if you are one of those people you see these little pop-ups and it seems like it's popping up everywhere have no fear there is a nice little settings that we can just simply turn on and off to disable this pop-up so let me to show you where that's at and we're gonna head right over to settings settings double tap to open and let's do that one finger don't tap to open up settings settings and now we are going to to go to the right and she get to App Store App Store button yep it's way down there but once we find it go ahead and do one finger double tap on this allow App Store to access heading now you're gonna keep swiping to the right until you find a button for in app rating and review in app ratings and reviews switch button on double tap to toggle setting all we got to do is one finger double tap just to turn this off off and voila now you have this set off now of course when this is set off you'll never get that pop-up again however now in saying that and I want to make this pretty clear is that I know the developers out there are probably screaming at me for suggesting anything like this to you because I get it because what they want they want you to rate it as often as you can because that gives them more visibility and that leads to more downloads and more sales to them so I get that but I believe in a fair balance that I am able to do a few votes but I don't want to be pester all the time so that is the option why I can turn that on and off and keep in mind there's a lot of apps out there if you just go into the apps that you like and then go into into settings or about area they typically have a little… Full Article
isa How to Disable Predictive Text Suggestions on macOS By www.applevis.com Published On :: Sat, 16 Mar 2024 22:37:14 +0000 In this episode, Tyler demonstrates how to disable predictive text suggestions on macOS.As you type on your Mac, macOS by default attempts to finish words and phrases it thinks you're trying to type. If you find that hearing these suggestions spoken by VoiceOver is more distracting than helpful, you can turn them off by going to System Settings > Keyboard, clicking the Edit button under the "Text input" heading, and toggling the "show inline predictive text" switch off.transcription:Disclaimer: This transcript is generated by AIKO, an automated transcription service. It is not edited or formatted, and it may not accurately capture the speakers’ names, voices, or content.Hey, Apple vissers, Tyler here, with a quick tip for how to disable predictive text suggestions on macOS.By default, as you type on your Mac, macOS attempts to finish words and phrases that it thinks you're trying to type. While this may increase the speed of text entry for some, if you're a voiceover user, you may find that hearing these suggestions spoken while you're trying to type is more distracting than helpful, in which case you can turn them off.To do that, go into system settings, keyboard, hit the edit button under the text input heading, and turn the show inline predictive text switch off.And I'm going to demonstrate that now, I'm going to system settings on my Mac, k for keyboard, vio command h to get to the text input heading, vio right, edit, and at the leftmost of this dialog, k, that's what we want, vio right, scroll area, interact with vio shift down arrow, and vio right until I find the setting I want, show inline predictive text, if I vio right once more, show inline predictive text off switch, it's off for me because I turned it off.If it's on for you and you want to turn it off, just press vio space, then stop interacting with the scroll area, with vio shift up arrow, and vio right to done, hit it, and here we are back in keyboard settings. So now as you type, you will not hear text suggestions predicted by macOS, which could almost ironically increase your speed of text entry because this feature is off and is no longer giving you distracting or potentially distracting feedback. So that's a tip for how to disable predictive text suggestions on macOS, I hope you found it helpful.Peace.Thank you. isa Translate a short flyer to invite Spanish-speakers to join Artisans.coop (NC / USA / anywhere) By jobs.metafilter.com Published On :: Thu, 13 Jul 2023 03:28:03 GMT I'm posting this as a volunteer activity, but I might be able to pay a ridiculously small amount if necessary. Really, though, it's volunteer, and it's totally fine if nobody volunteers :) That said, if you're fluent, it may take you less than three minutes. The flyer is mainly graphics, URIs, and a scannable code. -- The request is to translate the text on one flyer, accurately but keeping the spirit of the original. I'm not sure if I'll try to make one bilingual flyer or separate Spanish and English flyers. The text is: "We are building a handmade co-op alternative to Etsy!"; "Join our community!"; "ARTISANS.COOP/LINKS or scan QR"; "Follow @COOPARTISANS on [links/icons]"; "Designed by Miss Thera" -- I'm part of the grassroots campaign to built founding membership for Artisans.coop. There are many artisans and many Spanish speakers living near me in the North Carolina Triangle, and I've met spanish-speaking artisans, and I want to help get some diversity into the group ASAP. If someone will help me make a Spanish-language flyer, I can start getting it out into the world, at least here, possibly elsewhere. If you give me your e-mail address I can forward you an original, but the above text is all the text there is. If you are more comfortably staying a MeMail contact, I can send you a link to the folder where the original is, plus the file name. I asked the co-op about it, and no Spanish speaker has volunteered to translate anything so far. The site itself has a machine translation plugin, so a Spanish speaker could navigate it. A co-op is not a nonprofit entity. It is member owned, and anyone can join (even if they do not have cash to make the initial investment, in this co-op). I'd love to get some multicultural voices in immediately so they are heard early and often. Thanks a bunch! Full Article
isa By salishsea in "Respecfully agree to disagree" on Ask MeFi By ask.metafilter.com Published On :: Tue, 16 Mar 2010 06:04:14 GMT I actually got paid to do this. For three years (from 1996 to 1999) I worked as a Public Information and Consultation Advisor for the Federal Treaty Negotiation Office in British Columbia. It was essentially my job to talk to angry and racist non-native people about the land claims settlements we, the federal government, were negotiating with First Nations. One thing that helped me do this job was a story I heard Utah Phillips tell at the 1997 Vancouver Folk Music Festival. Seems one day he was told of an old cowboy in New Mexico who was dying. This old cowboy had ridden on some of the last cattle drives on the Great Plains in the 1800s and had scores of songs in his head about that time. Utah made an effort to go visit him on his death bed way out in the desert. When he got to the cowboy's cabin, a nurse answered the door, said he was expected and asked him to wait in the sitting room while she got the cowboy ready for the visitor. The cowboy was an avid reader and had many hundreds of books. As he was waiting Utah scanned the shelves and saw what was what. He was surprised and shocked to see tract after tract from the John Birch Society, a virulent right wing political movement that clashed deeply with Utah's own hard left politics. Utah reflected on the predicament he was in. Here was this cowboy full of all of these songs, and there was this irresolvable political gap between them. But thinking on it more, Utah realized that the REASON the cowboy had so many political books is that he didn't actually KNOW much about politics. In fact if he were to ask the old man about politics, he knew the old man would only give him lies, stuff that he didn't believe but that was recited out of the books. Utah Phillips noted that there was not one book on cowboys or cowboy music on the book shelves, and that's what Utah was there for. He entered the bedroom of the dying cowboy and passed a lovely day trading songs and stories of the cattle drives of the 19th century. In conclusion Utah said "You know, if you talk to people about what they know, they will always tell you the truth."That line stayed with me as I ventured in cowboy country shortly afterwards. I was meeting with a group of loggers and ranchers in Williams Lake, in the interior of British Columbia and they were a hard crew. Every month we met and every month they told me that they didn't want any land claims settlements with the "goddamn Indians" in their area. One guy, a man I'll call Bob used to go on and on about "you can't make deals with Indians, they can't be trusted, they're no good with their word..." That sort of thing. Now I am Aboriginal myself, and this rankled after a while. But keeping Utah's words in mind I challenged Bob one day and said, "Bob, you know, I'm Indian and I'm trustworthy and you can make deals with me. I know for a fact that what you're saying is bullshit. It's lies. So I'm not going to ask you about Indians anymore. Instead I'm going to talk to you about something you do know about, and that is logging. Why don't you take me out to see your operation?"Bob agreed and the next day I met him at 5:00am with a thermos of coffee and a box of Tim Hortons and we climbed into his F350 and headed out into the Cariboo Mountains. We drove for two hours and the whole time we talked about logging and what it's like being in the business, what kind of markest he was trying to develop, and how much he loved his new machinery He talked about his new feller-buncher like he was a dad with a newborn. Gone was the intransigent racist and here beside me was an interesting man, telling me the truth about what he loved. When we got out to the cut block where his crew was working, he radioed them in and they came down to get coffee and donuts. Of the 12 guys he had working for him, six were First Nations. I laughed when I met them and asked them if they knew Bob's opinions on the trustworthiness of Indians. "Oh yeah," One of them laughed. "He's an old blowhard!"But Bob countered by saying that THESE guys were great, that they had been with him for coming on 20 years. THEY were different. We laughed. Really hard. We talked for a while about what THESE guys felt about land claims and they all had different opinions. Respect arose in the space of nuance and reflection. So many people parrot opinions. In fact opinions are so often just a front for something else, the yawning abyss of ignorance. Very few people hold fixed opinions about things that matter deeply to them. Instead the hold nuanced and thoughtful interests. That's not to say that I wouldn't claw your eyes out if you hurt my child, but that's different from having an opinion on Tiger Woods or abortion or whether or not Obama is doing a good job. Most of us aren't Tiger, a pregnant woman facing a choice or the President. Most opinions are shallow, and the holder of them guards their superficiality with outrage and emotion to prevent you from getting close and discovering nuance. People hold opinons out of fear or loyalty. But when it comes to something you really care about, it's less about an opinion and more about the nuanced, many layered, complex fabric of knowledge, practical, theoretical, aspirational and emotionalFrom that day on, I never again talked to Bob about First Nations people, but he became a very involved person in our advisory committee because he had a piece of his heart staked in the process. I came to respect him very much, even though he continued to blow hard against my rookie colleagues and say stupid racist things that somewhere he must have believed. He did it just to put them off guard, to protect his own vulnerabilities and mask his fear. I came to respect what lay beneath the opinion, which was a real fear that land claims would ruin his logging operation. I dismissed the racism but respected Bob and what was really at stake for him. And I think he came to respect me too. It was the best job I ever had. Full Article
