ring Sandra Wachter: Exploring fairness, privacy and advertising in an algorithmic world By www.wired.com Published On :: Mon, 08 Jul 2019 11:41:11 +0000 Sandra Wachter is a Lawyer, Associate Professor and Senior Research Fellow at University of Oxford. In this video, Sandra discusses how the law can keep up with new technology. Particularly, she spoke about her recent work on targeted advertising – a big issue for tech giants including Facebook and Amazon. The law already protects against discrimination based on certain identity traits such as race or gender. But targeted advertisers claim to group people according to “affinity” – an aggregate measure of their online behaviour – not identity. Wachter believes, however, that existing concepts in the law may have something to say about discrimination by affinity.
