What President Joe Biden Means for You

The former vice president won the top job, but undoing Trumps discordant legacy will not be easy.

Many of the elements of Trumps biggest legislative achievement--the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) of 2017--are set to expire in the next few years. To name two: the research and development tax credit, which in 2022 requires businesses to amortize expenses over five years rather than doing so immediately, as is the current case. And full expensing for short-term business investments will begin phasing out in 2023.

That lovely Instagram shoutout could save a small business from shuttering this yearX

Kudos matter now more than ever. On average, social media endorsements of small businesses generate 23% of revenues, according to data from Amex.

Few things put more smiles on the faces of small-business owners than social media recommendations about their products or services, but now, new research proves that those online shoutouts also put cash in their bank accounts.

On average, social media endorsements of small businesses generate 23% of revenues—or approximately $197 billion—new data from American Express finds.

5 Hiring Hacks for Small Businesses That Need to Stretch Their Budgets

Finding and keeping the best talent has never been easy. It became the top concern for HR professionals this past year, with more than two-thirds reporting struggles with their recruitment and retention efforts. While the reasons for those struggles run the gamut, they often relate to attracting qualified candidates (49%), retaining star employees (49%) and issues with the talent-culture fit (42%).

For small and midsize businesses (SMBs), any difficulties with finding talented hires end up wasting precious resources. Worse yet, the cost of a bad hire is equal to 30% of the hires first-year salary – without factoring in the potential losses in revenue and time associated with onboarding the wrong person for a job.

What You Need to Know About Employee Retention Credits

With the tax filing deadline approaching, make sure your company is getting all the assistance available from government programs. For instance, that means checking that you've fully utilized the Employee Retention Credit (ERC), the refundable tax credit designed to make it easier for businesses to keep employees on the payroll.

The credit is getting extended as part of the American Rescue Plan Act, the $1.9 trillion relief package just signed by President Biden. Originally scheduled to end on June 30, ERC will continue through year end, giving business owners access to as much as $33,000 per employee in incentives.

How the credit works, depending on the time frame
First half of 2021:

Eligible employers can claim a refundable credit against the employer share of Social Security tax equal to 70 percent of a full-time employee's qualified wages paid--including certain health plan expenses--from January 1 through June 30, 2021. The maximum ERC amount available is $7,000 per employee per quarter or $14,000 for eligible wages paid in the first half of 2021.

Would You Like Fries with That?

Once McDonald’s fries were something that plenty of people enjoyed, even if they were a bit dubious about the hamburgers, to say nothing of the McRib (if there ever was an item on the franchise’s menu that the term “mystery meat” could apply to, that’s the one), which apparently will soon be coming back to an Arches outlet near you.

But last week Lamb Weston, the largest french fry producer in the U.S., announced it has closed a plant in Washington state because people are opting for small fries, not medium or large.

According to McDonald’s:

“Everyone wants to know why McDonald’s French Fries taste so good—it’s a simple answer. McDonald’s World Famous Fries® are made with premium potatoes such as the Russet Burbank and the Shepody. With 0g of trans fat per labeled serving, these epic fries are crispy and golden on the outside and fluffy on the inside.”

Evidently the notation about the lack of trans fats isn’t enough to convince people that the 480 calories of a large order is something they want to eat, premium potatoes notwithstanding. (A bag of small fries is 230 calories.)

Time change, and with it things that were once familiar.

But what about the antiquarians?

"Those who do not learn from the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat them." This is good advice, especially for democracies, which tend (as even Plato and Thucydides noted) to have short-term attention spans. But we shouldn't forget an equally important lesson, articulated most forcefully by Nietzsche: The health of a person and a people also depends vitally on the capacity to forget. Forgetting is necessary to free ourselves from imperfectly understood "lessons of history," so that we can see the challenges ahead clearly, without preconceptions or prejudice. Forgetting is also the better part of forgiving, and there are whole domains of political controversy -- indeed, whole regions of the world -- where a little less history could be of service in this respect.
--Eliot Noyes, Getting Past the Past

Okay, so you won the argument. So what?

Over at Catallarchy, Micha Ghertner discusses “How To Tell You’ve Won An Argument;” namely, when your opponent concedes that his position is less coherent than your own, you’ve won. Now, I don’t want to dispute his point, but rather to question how relevant it is. I’ve touched on this before, but I’m a bit dubious of the notion that the “correct” position is the one that wins arguments between advocates of two different positions.

Obviously, in the first place, there’s nothing to prevent both arguers from being wrong; the relative lack of coherence of one of their positions means, at best, that the other’s position is “less” wrong (assuming that even makes sense and assuming that coherence is a measure of correctness).1 But this is somewhat superficial (and besides, already mentioned and acknowledged in the comments to Ghertner’s post); more importantly, I want to cast doubts upon the parenthetical assumption I made above, that coherence is some sort of infallible metric for measuring correctness/validity.

In fact, Ghertner (perhaps unconsciously) alludes to this very issue when he quotes Wittgenstein’s famous seventh proposition from the Tractatus: “Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent.” Within the context of the Tractatus (as an attempt to construct or at least describe a perfect language), this supports the notion that being right and being coherent are synonymous, but Wittgenstein himself later rejects this perspective and, to me, the more apropos quotation is: “Explanations come to an end somewhere” (Philosophical Investigations, I§1). That is, no argument (and certainly none about abstract principles) is completely coherent; we always run up against that whereof we cannot speak and therefore must be silent. The question is simply at what stage in the investigation we enter the realm of unsupported assertion.

And even if we scale back our expectations and choose to embrace the position that manages to maintain coherence as far back as possible, there’s still no guarantee that we’re on the right track. Although much of the world can apparently be explained without the need to stipulate a deity, this doesn’t really make it any less likely that theism is right. In the words of Chuck Klosterman:

Math [or, perhaps more fittingly in this context, logic] is the antireligion, because it splinters the gravity of life’s only imperative equation: Either something is true, or it isn’t.

In fact, if we really want to get all Wittgensteinian about this (not that we necessarily should), we might even begin to question those positions which do appear to be coherent:

In the actual use of expressions we make detours, we go by side roads. We see the straight highway before us, but of course we cannot use it, because it is permanently closed. (PI, I§426)

Anyway, getting back to whatever semblance of a point I was trying to make, when someone admits that their position is incoherent, that does indeed mean that they’ve lost the argument, but I just wonder how important that really is. Giving up your high-paying job and live-in girlfriend to go back home and take care of your sick mother isn’t going to win a lot of arguments if we’re taking logical coherence as the criterion of victory (seriously, think about it), but that doesn’t mean it’s not the right thing to do. That doesn’t mean that coherence is totally irrelevant to what is right/correct, either (and, I should point out, in the above example helping your sick mom isn’t necessarily the right thing to do; as is almost always true, it depends on the circumstances), but let’s not give argument-winning more importance than it merits. Or, as some smarmy new-age intellectual might put it, in the pursuit of knowledge, our goal shouldn’t be to win arguments, but, rather, to discover truth.

1. Since I’m quoting Wittgenstein anyway, I might as well include the relevant quote for this as well:

The law of the excluded middle says here: It must either look like this, or like that. So it really—and this is a truism—says nothing at all, but gives us a picture. And the problem ought now to be: does reality accord with the picture or not? And this picture seems to determine what we have to do, what to look for, and how—but it does not do so, just because we do not know how it is to be applied. Here saying “There is no third possibility” or “But there can’t be a third possibility!”—expresses our inability to turn our eyes away from this picture: a picture which looks as if it must already contain both the problem and its solution, while all the time we feel that it is not so. (PI I§352)

The Holy Spirit Pt2: What's Missing?

Just like the twelve 'disciples' in Ephesus, the original twelve in Jerusalem also had something missing. They had spent three years with Jesus, but still needed their Pentecost experience. Jesus warned His disciples that they needed more to accomplish His commission. Here in Part 2 of 'The Holy Spirit', we will find out 'What's Missing?', and learn of the utter necessity of living and ministering in the power of the Holy Spirit. Overcoming Adversity, Part 2: What You Need To Know

In our second study in 'Overcoming Adversity', we learn 'What You Need To Know'. From the amazing Romans 8, David explains how God has given us the tools to overcome adversity. There is a special understanding that we have when we are 'in Christ' that causes us to triumph even in the worst afflictions. This comes from knowing who we are and what we have in Christ - knowing what is ahead of us in Christ; what God has purposed for us in Christ and how secure we are in Him. These keys to overcoming are available to all generations of believers whatever the current global challenges or personal trials we face. This is a message of encouragement that we all need in these days. This message is available now from https://www.preachtheword.com in MP3 audio format...

Today Is That Day . . . (Open This NOW!!!)

I've heard the cries from the team and I can't hold them
back any longer. It's time to do all over again, and it's
time to do it even better.

Let's take it up a notch with a team Co-op!

I am excited about this month's, but this month is
different.

Why?

I already now the exact formula for HUGE success in running
a team co-op, and this month I get to push the envelop even
further!

Just read this email and you'll see what I mean!

Ok guys, it's time to quit playing around.

Our business is growing by leaps and bound.

So, it's time to pull together as a team and do it again!

The best way to do this is through a massive advertising
campaign and the best time to do it is NOW.

Let me give you a little history behind why I started the
team co-op:

I've spoken to and helped trained 100s of people over the
past year and I know not all of you on the team have the
expertise to run your business online at the same level that
I and a couple of our team leaders can.

Month's back we started a co-op to help bridge this gap in
marketing expertise so that every member of our team that
has the drive, but maybe not the marketing skill at this
time can get in on the action too.

How will the co-op work?

Each member of the co-op will purchase a share.

Our team leaders will locate and investigate the best places
to run our advertisements and then we will place the ads.

Once the ad runs, each member of the team who purchases a
share in the co-op will receive their EQUAL share of the
traffic produced.

What are the advantages of having an ad co-op?

The advantage of this is that we will be able to leverage
the experience and knowledge of those who are doing well as
an entire team.

I personally sponsored 85 team members so far, and I want to
use my knowledge and track record of success to help give
you a jump-start towards doing the same.

Think what happens when we combine my track record of
success with a much larger budget in a way that everyone on
the team can take advantage of?

Well that's what the co-op is all about - shared success.

I want everyone on our team to have the opportunity to
achieve financial freedom through their business.

This ad co-op is a powerful step in that direction. (And
really . . . it get's better ever single month)

Two other big benefits of the ad co-op . . .

1. Spreading risk: By doing our advertising as a team no one
will be at the mercy of one bad ad. What I mean is . . . If
you're out there placing ads alone and you spend $80 on one
ad that just tanks your $80 in the whole. On the other hand,
if you put you ad dollars into our co-op your risk will be
spread over several ads so you will have more upside
potential and less overall risk.

2. Your prospects will love the fact that we have an
advertising co-op and many will be happy to have the option
to simply have us do all their advertising for them. This
will be a great benefit to point out while prospecting.

The specifics for this month:

What I'll do first is re-evaluate my best ad spots from
last month and then our team leaders and I will simple turn
the traffic back on and start generating traffic from these
sources immediately.

The benefit of doing this is that we already know that these
ad spots have a track record for success, so we know that
these ads will do well.

This means we'll get a higher response rate per dollar spent
from the outset. (Using our team co-op funds effectively and
efficiently is the key to our success)

Here is where it gets exciting!

This aspect of the co-op will be partially known as a
"Perpetual Co-op"

Here's why . . .

In my marketing of our business I have found that I generate
the best quality of leads and new team members through
people that join my business by buying one of my information
products first and then being exposed to the business.

These people have raised there hand and said that they are
interested in improving how they promote their network
marketing business using the power of the Internet by the
simple fact that they purchased from me.

When these people subsequently join they are business
builders and not just business lookers. Further, in
promoting an Info Product online I have been able to
generate lists of targeted subscribers that know and trust
me.

Who better to shoot a quick email to invite them to join our
team?

When I send email like this to my own lists generated by
promoting a front end product I have my highest conversion
ratio of lead to sign up compared against any other online
method I have ever used.

Why?

Because in this model instead of borrowing someone else's
list of subscriber for a one time ad I'm able to create my
own list that I can develop a relationship with and market
to whenever I want.

That's true leverage. (And it works big time!)

As a team we can do far more advertising than I can
personally do as one person and hence we can recruit many
more high quality team members than I can as one person
using this method.

The largest benefits of this is that the sales that are
generated will ADD to the initial co-op marketing budget.

That's why I call this portion of the co-op a "Perpetual Co-
op".

To make it simple:

It means more leads, better leads, and higher conversions
for everyone involved.

Let's take this to the next level!

As you can see, your team leaders are out here working hard
for you. I've personally never been involved in a co-op as
extensive as ours and this has already set us apart from the
rest of the crowd.

I am proud to be able to serve the team in such a fashion.

Everyone who participates in the ad co-op will get one share
as I discussed earlier and we will disperse the traffic
equally via a URL rotator so everyone will get an equal
amount of traffic per share.

When leads fill out your opt in page you just follow up via
email or phone with your prospect and when they sign up
under you, you get the credit!

That's using leverage if you asked me!

The reason that I am putting this co-op together is I want
to insure our team's success. As I said before I want to
help as many as I can attain financial freedom here with
Success University

Guys and gals I'm throwing out all the stops!

My heart is beating so fast just thinking of what's to come!

I will only ever see success in our future and you have my
word that I will NEVER give up on you as long as you don't
give up on your dreams.

There is absolutely NO reason why we cannot be the fastest
growing team here at Success University for years to come!

In order to make this co-op run successfully I am looking I
am putting a cap on the number of shares.

This month we will take no more than 50 shares at $80
share. Each participant may purchase up to but NO MORE THAN
THREE shares this month up until that cap is met.

This will keep results consistent and targeted by limiting
our shares in this way.

Get your share now to share in our team's success.

You may use a tracking link this month to track your
progress if you like. Also you may purchase up to 3 shares
but NO more! (Just reminding you . . .)

What Do I DO If My Sponsor Sucks?

Great question right?

I'm sure you've dealt with this situation if you've had
any sort of tenure as a network marketer.

I mean you do all the research, you find a business
that you think is a perfect fit for you, you do the
research to find a great sponsor, and then when you
think everything is matched up perfectly your jump in.

What happens?

You get in and then you get very little support from
your upline!

You don't know what to do or where turn and you start
to feel like you're in this thing all alone.

Well I'm going to tell you something that I'm guessing
you've never heard before!

You're lucky!!!!

Why?

Well as someone that was in a network marketing company
with a great sponsor and in a network marketing company
with virtually no sponsor I've seen things from both
sides.

So let me explain why you're lucky. . .

When I started with network marketing I was sure to dot
all my eyes and cross all my tees.

I found a good sponsor and what I thought to be a good
system.

I did everything I was taught to do and seven a half
months later I had no success.

My second run in network marketing I found a company I
liked without regards to the sponsor and joined.

(In fact, I've never spoken to my sponsor once - I
think he's somewhere in Asia.)

And now 1.5 years later I've got a thriving
organization that grows by 10 to 15 people a day like
clockwork without any direct upline support.

If we looked at the situation objectively based on my
results the obviously conclusion would be that going in
without a sponsor is the way to go.

Now I'm not going to say that is totally true, but . .
.

Going into a business without a strong sponsor does
have its advantages.

It forces you to go out into the world without
expectations and without their system and figure it out
for yourself.

You're forced into a leadership role.

You have to find what works for you and if you don't
there's nothing to lean on, so it's really a do or die
situation!

You're forced to go to school and learn.

You have to buy books and information from those who
have been more successful than you and then create your
own system out of it.

You have to be independent.

If you have a good sponsor you can get lazy. You can
rely to heavily on their system and their promise of
its effectiveness.

You have a scapegoat for when it doesn't work!

So when you don't get the success you thought you
deserved from all your hard work it's NOT your fault,
it's your sponsors fault, it's your company's fault.

(At least in your own mind.)

All I'm saying is if you're going to be successful in
network marketing your sponsor has little to do with
it.

He or she can shorten your learning curve, but it's up
to each and every one of use to define our path to
success and become our own leader.

Remember . . . You Never Get What You Pay For!!!

Enrolments for our team co-op continue to come in, we are
about 25 at my last count, so reserve your share now
if you don't want to miss out.

http://mlm-successsite.com/training/Coop%20Program.html

But I have some BAD news for you . . .

When you join our team co-op just like everything else in
life you NEVER get what you pay for.

In life if you buy a house you don't just get a house.

You get a water bill, an electric bill, homeowners
insurance, and a lawn to mow, etc . . .

(Let's not mention the price you pay if anything happens to
break or go wrong.)

Well our team co-op is no different.

That's right!

I guarantee you're NOT going to get what you pay for!

But luckily, when it comes to our team co-op it all works
the other way around.

Not only do I take on all the risk of performance, place all
the ads, track all the ads, create all the marketing
material, and follow up with all the leads on the team's
behalf, but you also get something else . . .

My goal with every team co-op is to not only to improve upon
what we did the month before and leave you with little to no
risk, but I always want to ensure that you get MORE than you
put on the line.

So . . .

For this month once the co-op reaches over 40 shares sold I
will personally ensure that each and every member of the
team co-op get's more than they pay because once we hit that
mark I will personally put $600 of my own money into the
promotional pot to ad towards your marketing.

This means that for every member of the co-op that reserves
a share at $80 you will actually get $95 worth of
advertising done on your behalf.

Further . . .

If we reach our full cap amount of 50 shares reserved I
will personally add $1200 out of my own pocket to put
towards our co-op marketing fund.

I think I'm probably a little insane for putting myself out
on the line like this again, but it's worth ever cent of it
to me.

If I can help our team grow in any way shape or form I'm
doing it.

If it means putting a heck of a lot of my own money on the
line to do it I'm more than happy to do it.

Why?

When I tried network marketing the first time around on my
own and met with dismal failure with little real help I
remembered what it felt like.

I was the only one out there pushing for my success. I was
the only one putting my money on the line to try to improve
my life.

It was a very frustrating feeling to have to know that when
it came down to it I was alone.

Well you are not alone and as long as I am a member of this
team and you will never be alone on your path to success.

Let's make history together!

We are at about 25 shares reserved. Reserve your's now
before it's to late!

Golf Therapy Mesh Ball Hat

This Mesh Ball Cap proclaims that for you, playing golf is so much better and heathier than visiting with any kind of therapist - It's very true; sometimes the best way to work things out mentally is to get out on the golf course for a few hours and wack that little white ball for a few hours. There is just something about getting out in the open, breathing in the fresh air and going for a walk along the 18 holes of a beautiful golf course focusing your mind and energy on hitting that great next shot to clear your mind of other distractions and problems of life. It is amazing how solutions to some of life's problems can just appear to you when you get your mind off of them when you can step away from them and concentrate in a relaxing way to other things, like playing a round of golf. No matter how well you play, "For some there's therapy, for the rest of us there's golf".

Martial Arts Therapy Trucker Hat

This Trucker Hat will help you show your passion and dedication to your martial arts discipline and that it truly is better than therapy - For some there's therapy, for the rest of us there's martial arts. Who needs therapy; when the martial arts are your outlet? There can be several reasons of why you do not need therapy when you use martial arts as therapy. In martial arts, whether it is taekwondo, karate, kung fu or jujutsu, there is a physical and mental level of discipline that is achieved that overflows into every area of your life, helping you to be able to have respect for others, maintain focus to achieve other goals and also to help overcome problems and situations. Then there is the physical release that martial arts bring whether it is working on your forms, during sparing or breaking boards. Another way that martial arts helps bring tension release and peace top the mind and body is the mental preparation and focus bring a single mind to the task at hand creating self-control, self-restraint and a mental readiness to handle potentially stressful situations and diffuse them easily.
