IIT-M Pravartak Technologies invites applications from engineers, developers for the hackathon

Immediately following the project Annual Conference iDiv is organizing its first Science Hackathon: 4 - 6 December, Leipzig.

The aim of this hackathon is to attract researchers from a variety of iDiv member groups to catalyze the efficient realization of highly novel collaborative projects focusing on evolution and adaptation.

Developers at MEC Hackathon challenged to trial edge computing for 5G at the Droidcon virtual event

The successful last edition of MEC Hackathons endorsed by ETSI took place on 25 to 26 November and was hosted by Droidcon Italy 2020 as a fully virtual event. The competition was open for developers to test their applications with ETSI MEC APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) in a variety of use cases. The organizing committee received a total of 14 submissions, including several topics, from Augmented Reality for Construction Sector, to consumer, media and entertainment application, to automotive services. Admitted teams were offered remote access to MEC servers and software platforms to develop mobile applications for advanced services in MEC-enabled 5G networks, using ETSI MEC technologies. They were also required to onboard their applications in real-life MEC systems and connect with the MEC APIs to receive simulated in-network data.

Congratulations to Optare solutions, winner of the 2021 ETSI MEC Hackathon

Following the ETSI MEC Hackathon that took place during the Edge Computing World from 12 to 15 October, you can now discover the winner, the A Team, from Optare solutions, on the event website. The A Team presented the “flex drone concept”, edge AI autonomous drone flights, compliant with ETSI MEC standards.

New ETSI White Paper and MEC Hackathon: another step to engage with app developers and verticals

The ETSI MEC (Multi-access Edge Computing) group is pleased to announce a new White Paper which aims to describe the deployment options related to MEC federation, especially from an architectural point of view. With a key focus on ETSI MEC implementations, it also aims to provide an open approach taking into account other standards and technologies, including those from 3GPP SA Working Group 6 and GSMA OPG. For this purpose, the White Paper first analyses the recent publications of GSMA OPG and recent updates in ETSI MEC and 3GPP specifications, then introduces the synergized architecture supported by both standards organizations, which indicates the background information for the deployment of MEC federation harmonized standards for edge computing.

Hackmakers: Part 1: Jim Grisanzio talks with Franco Ucci, Sr. Director for Oracle Cloud Platform Strategy for Australia and New Zealand. Franco outlines Oracle's involvement in the Hackmakers World Innovation Day Global Hackathon in April 2021, where thousands of developers came together to build solutions to help people. This is part one of a multipart series about this major developer event.

Franco Ucci opens the series of discussions with an explanation of the event and the focus of the projects -- which was health, education, and economic growth. All of these areas have experienced serious challenges due to the ongoing pandemic that started in 2020. Franco also outlined some of the important activities that led up to the event, such as meetings with UNESCO and other United Nations officials about human rights, displaced refugees, and bioethics.

Oracle and other organizations sponsored the event in collaboration with UNESCO and UNEP as developers worldwide participated in building solutions to solve human needs. The areas of focus for the projects included health, education, and work -- all based on the larger list of United Nations world development goals.
