Entry Level Systems Analysts: What Does the Industry Want?

This study investigates the skill sets necessary for entry level systems analysts. Towards this end, the study combines two sources of data, namely, a content analysis of 200 systems analysts’ online job advertisements and a survey of 20 senior Information Systems (IS) professionals. Based on Chi-square tests, the results reveal that most employers prefer entry level systems analysts with an undergraduate Computer Science degree. Furthermore, most of the employers prefer entry level systems analysts to have some years of experience as well as industry certifications. The results also reveal that there is a higher preference for entry level systems analysts who have non-technical and people skills (e.g., problem solving and oral communication). The empirical results from this study will inform IS educators as they develop future systems analysts. Additionally, the results will be useful to the aspiring systems analysts who need to make sure that they have the necessary job skills before graduating and entering the labor market.

Pharma Stock Has Significant Upside Potential, Analyst Says

Source: Dr. Joseph Pantginis 11/04/2024

"We believe significant upside potential exists," H.C. Wainwright & Co. analysts wrote about Lexicon Pharmaceuticals Inc. (LXRX:NASDAQ) in an updated research note.

H.C. Wainwright & Co. analysts Dr. Joseph Pantginis, Dr. Lander Egaña Gorroño, Dr. Joshua Korsen, Dr. Matthew Keller, and Dr. Sara Nik, in a research report published on November 4, 2024, maintained their Buy rating on Lexicon Pharmaceuticals Inc. (LXRX:NASDAQ) with a price target of US$6.00. The report follows Lexicon's presentation of preclinical data for LX9851, its ACSL5 inhibitor for obesity, at ObesityWeek 2024.

The analysts highlighted key findings from the presentations, stating, "LX9851 promotes reduction of fat mass without affecting lean body mass" and "LX9851 improves and sustains GLP-1 RA-mediated weight loss, even after semaglutide discontinuation." They added that "Mechanistic studies suggest that LX9851-mediated ACSL5 inhibition activates the ileal brake."

Regarding the drug's potential, they noted, "LX9851 is a first-in-class, oral small molecule ACSL5 inhibitor designed to enhance and maintain weight loss promoted by incretin mimetics (GLP-1 receptor agonists), and offer improved treatment alternatives for obesity and related metabolic disorders."

The report also addressed recent developments with sotagliflozin, detailing the AdCom voting results and potential scenarios for FDA action. The analysts stated, "Although we anticipate favorable feedback from the agency regarding eGFR ≥60 to <90 range, our bet is that a confirmatory trial may be required to validate sota's efficacy in this subpopulation and obtain approval."

H.C. Wainwright & Co.'s valuation methodology is based on a clinical net present value (NPV) model. The analysts explained, "Our valuation is based on our clinical net present value (NPV) model, which allows us to flex multiple assumptions affecting a drug's profile. We currently value Lexicon solely on sotagliflozin sales in the U.S. for HF (INPEFA), HCM, and LX9211 for DPNP."

They added, "We believe significant upside potential exists, based on: (1) attaining higher market penetration for HF, and HCM; and (2) adding the earlier stage assets."

In conclusion, H.C. Wainwright & Co.'s maintenance of their Buy rating and US$6 price target reflects confidence in Lexicon's pipeline potential, particularly with LX9851 and sotagliflozin. The share price at the time of the report of US$1.22 represents a potential return of approximately 392% to the analysts' target price, highlighting the significant upside potential if the company's development programs prove successful.

Leading Analyst Firm Ranks Tenable #1 for Sixth Consecutive Year in Market Share for Device Vulnerability Management

Tenable®, the exposure management company, today announced that it has been ranked first for 2023 worldwide market share for device vulnerability management in the IDC Worldwide Device Vulnerability Management Market Shares (doc #US51417424, July 2024) report. This is the sixth consecutive year Tenable has been ranked first for market share.

According to the IDC market share report, Tenable is ranked first in global 2023 market share and revenue. Tenable credits its success to its strategic approach to risk management, which includes a suite of industry-leading exposure management solutions that expose and close security gaps, safeguarding business value, reputation and trust. The Tenable One Exposure Management Platform, the world’s only AI-powered exposure management platform, radically unifies security visibility, insight and action across the modern attack surface – IT, cloud, OT and IoT, web apps and identity systems.

According to the IDC market share report, “The top 3 device vulnerability management vendors remained the same in 2023 as previous years, with Tenable once again being the top vendor.”

The report highlighted Tenable’s use of generative AI, noting, “ExposureAI, available as part of the Tenable One platform, provides GenAI-based capabilities that include natural language search queries, attack path and asset exposure summaries, mitigation guidance suggestions, and a bot assistant to ask specific questions about attack path results.”

Tenable’s latest innovations in the vulnerability management market – Vulnerability Intelligence and Exposure Response – were also highlighted in the report, stating, “Vulnerability Intelligence provides dynamic vulnerability information collected from multiple data sources and vetted by Tenable researchers, while Exposure Response enables security teams to create campaigns based on risk posture trends so remediation progress can be monitored internally.”

The report also spotlighted the Tenable Assure Partner Program and MDR partnerships, noting, “Tenable has made more of a strategic effort to recruit managed security service providers (SPs) and improve the onboarding experience for them, as well as their customers. Managed detection and response (MDR) providers have been adding proactive exposure management because it helps shrink the customer attack surface, helping them provide better outcomes. Sophos and Coalfire are recently announced partners adding managed exposure management services to their MDR and pen testing services, respectively.”

“At Tenable, we build products for a cloud-first, platform centric world, meeting customers' evolving risk management needs,” said Shai Morag, chief product officer, Tenable. “We leverage cutting edge technology, innovating across our portfolio to help customers know, expose and close priority security gaps that put businesses at risk.”

"The device vulnerability management market is characterized by a focus on broader exposure management, with a number of acquisitions to round out exposure management portfolios," said Michelle Abraham, senior research director, Security and Trust at IDC. "Vendors are advised to enhance their offerings with additional security signals and automated remediation workflows to stay competitive in this evolving landscape."

Tradecraft: Paramount Remakes THE PRESIDENT'S ANALYST with Trevor Noah

Theodore J. Flicker's 1967 James Coburn satire The President's Analyst is one of my very favorite spy movies. (It's also Coburn's best spy movie... Sorry, Derek Flint.) When describing it to people, I always say that the comedy holds up surprisingly well today... sadly. America is still facing many of the same social  issues Flicker sent up over fifty years ago (from institutional racism to monolithic Big Tech), and it's easy to imagine a remake. Now, Paramount is imagining one... with The Daily Show host Trevor Noah on board to produce and potentially star. According to The Hollywood Reporter, former Obama White House staffer Pat Cunnane will write the script. The premise, about a psychotherapist burdened with all of the President's top secret stresses, will obviously be familiar ground for him! According to his publisher, Cunnane served as "President Barack Obama’s senior writer and deputy director of messaging at the White House, where he worked for six years in many roles."

Per the trade, "Details for the new take are being kept under the couch but it is described as a re-examining the 1967 satire through the lens of the contemporary political landscape." You really wouldn't have to change too much. I do hope the new film retains the original's almost Pink Panther-esque slapstick tone though. It's not too often you see slapstick and satire married together, but Flicker's film did it perfectly. Severn Darden and Godfrey Cambridge co-starred in the original.

THE PRESIDENT'S ANALYST is Coming to Blu-ray!

The 1967 original, starring James Coburn, Godfrey Cambridge, and Severn Darden, is at long last coming to Blu-ray! Australian label Via Vision will release the title via its Imprint imprint (yes, you read that right: two "via's" and two "imprint's") on May 26. It' can be imported from the Via Vision site, and is available to pre-order from American outlets like Amazon (from which this site receives a kickback) and DeepDiscount. Imprint Blu-rays are region-free. The 1080p HD presentation of the film with LPCM 2.0 mono audio comes with brand new special features including an audio commentary by the great Tim Lucas (who recently provided the company with an updated audio commentary for their release of Danger: Diabolik to supplement his classic original DVD commentary with John Philip Law) and an appreciation of the film from Kim Newman, as well as the original theatrical trailer and optional English subtitles. The first 1500 copies will come in a limited edition slipcase. The President's Analyst is one of the all-time great spy comedies, and remains as timely as ever. If you love it as much as I do, you'll already have pre-ordered. If you've never seen it... now's your chance!
