Update - Removal of RC4 Cipher Suites

Denotes update to the article

CME Group is committed to information security. To deliver the best security and customer experience, we are eliminating support of the RC4-based cipher suites for CME Group web-based applications, APIs, and service in Certification, New Release, and Production environments.

As of this change, customers relying on RC4 cipher suites will no longer have access to these web-based applications, APIs, and services.

Please note: CME Group strongly encourages customers to verify connections so those environments continue to function properly.

RC4 cipher suites support will be removed as follows:

  • Production: Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 6:00 a.m. (CT)

  • TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA

Leap Second Impact

CME Clearing House processing will be paused from 18:55 - 19:05 Central time (CT) on Tuesday, June 30, for the leap second, including CME ConfirmHub. CME Group strongly recommends customers finish their processing prior to 18:55 CT and do not access any CME Clearing House systems during this window.

CME Group uses Network Time Protocol (NTP) to synchronize time and maintain time accuracy. On Tuesday, June 30 (trade date Wednesday, July 1), a positive leap second will be added after 18:59:59 CT. A leap second is a one-second adjustment that is added to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) to account for variability of the earth’s rotation.

Trades submitted via CME ConfirmHub during the Leap Second window will be queued. Once the window is complete, all trades will be processed in the order received. Customers will not receive acknowledgements or trade reports until after the window.

New - CME ConfirmHub Decommissioning and Functional Transition to CME STP

Effective December 31, 2016, CME ConfirmHub Portal and most features of the CME ConfirmHub API are slated to be decommissioned in order to simplify and harmonize CME Group’s post-trade portfolio management capabilities. To continue to support trade submission and viewing, many CME ConfirmHub features will be transitioned to CME STP.

Post-transition, only Bilateral and Cleared elsewhere trade submission capabilities will be available on CME ConfirmHub API.  The following features will be available on CME STP:

  • Confirmations from CME Group to the Client for Bilateral and Cleared Elsewhere deals
  • A new CME STP User Interface for viewing cleared trade records and trade confirmation letters

Please note:

  • CME ConfirmHub currently supports both exchange and broker-submitted versions of CME cleared trades. To streamline processing and minimize redundant data, CME STP will harmonize around a single exchange version optionally enriched with broker fee data. Enhancements to CME Direct and CME ClearPort API will allow brokers to submit trades for CME clearing which have been enriched with broker fee data.
  • All CME ConfirmHub API messages include a robust set of product reference data attributes. CME STP will support the following:
    • Exchange-defined product codes for all exchange-traded transactions (CME-cleared and cleared-elsewhere).  Comprehensive product reference data to be provided through alternative means by respective exchanges.
    • A robust set of product reference data attributes for Bilateral transactions

Trading Firm and Broker Firm Required Actions:

  • Trading Firms must migrate to CME STP from CME ConfirmHub by the end of the year to retrieve CME Cleared, Bilateral, and Cleared Elsewhere confirmations. See more here.
  • Broker Firms must enrich CME Cleared transactions with broker fees, if applicable, and submit all CME Cleared transactions using either CME Direct or CME ClearPort API. Bilateral and Cleared Elsewhere deals will continue to be submitted via ConfirmHub API. See more here.
