Did life start on the ocean floor — and what does that mean for alien life?

How did life start on Earth? The answer is a big scientific mystery scientists are actively investigating. After talking with many scientists, host Regina G. Barber found that an abundance of water on Earth is most likely key, in some way, to the origin of life — specifically, in either deep sea hydrothermal vents or in tide pools. It's for this reason some scientists are also exploring the potential for life in so-called "water worlds" elsewhere in the solar system, like some of the moons of Jupiter and Saturn. This episode, Regina digs into two water-related hypotheses for the origin on life on Earth — and what that might mean for possible alien life.

The first-ever detection of gravitational waves and the powwow that preceded it

A pivotal week in Corey Gray's life began with a powwow in Alberta and culminated with a piece of history: The first-ever detection of gravitational waves from the collision of two neutron stars. Corey was on the graveyard shift at LIGO, the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory in Hanford, Washington, when the historic signal came. This episode, Corey talks about the discovery, the "Gravitational Wave Grass Dance Special" that preceded it and how he got his Blackfoot name. (encore)

Humans on Mars? Here's why you shouldn't plan a space move anytime soon

As global warming continues and space technology improves, there is more and more talk about the growing possibility of a sci-fi future in which humans become a multiplanetary species. Specifically, that we could live on Mars. Biologist Kelly Weinersmith and cartoonist Zach Weinersmith have spent the last four years researching what this would look like if we did this anytime soon. In their new book A City On Mars, they get into all sorts of questions: How would we have babies in space? How would we have enough food? They join host Regina G. Barber and explain why it might be best to stay on Earth.

Kelly and Zach Weinersmith's book A City On Mars is out now.

motorola moto Z 2 play

Category:

Model:

z 2 play

Manufacturer's Website:

https://www.motorola.ca/products/moto-z-play-gen-2#Specifications

Short Description:

Features very close to stock android. Has a middle of the road pricepoint, but justified for what's under the hood. It's old reliable motorola.

Physical Description:

Demensions: 76.2 x 156.2 x 5.99 mm,
Weight: 184 G,
Screen: 5.5 Inches 1920x1080 P,
Materials: aluminum, Gorilla glass,
Card slots: nannosim, 2 tb micro SD top face,
connecters: usb C, 3.5 mm headphone bottom face,, mods connecter back face,
physical buttons: volume, power right face,
Performance: 2.2 ghz octicore processer, 3 gb ram, 32 gb internal storage,
sound: front ported loud speaker,
Fingerprint sensor included on front face,
Cameras: 12 mp reer, 5 mp front,
Battery: 3000 mha nonremoveable battery,
What's in the box: handset, data cable, wall charger, sim removal tool, warrantee and quickstart,

One man's opinion: After my sad foray into the sony world, it was revoltingly comforting to step back into moto. Am I getting old and set in my ways? Yaghch! I'm not getting no 30 hours out of the battery. Though battery life is respectable, it's not special in any way. The device is ultra-thin to accommodate moto mods, but the camera aperture is sticking way out the back. To me, this makes the phone look and feel really goofy. I'm also worried about damaging the protruding component. I guess I'll just *have* to get the speaker to cover up the camera. I'm happy with the performance as I should be for the money, and I'm looking forward to trying the moto jbl soundboost speaker.

Accessibility Features:

Stock accessibility features.

Experience:

It comes with close to a stock experience, particularly gboard and now launcher. Moto mods manager and extra gesture configuration are accessible. I've converted the fingerprint sensor to one touch navigation and that's accessible once used to it.

T9-01

Category:

Model:

T9-01

Manufacturer's Website:

none

Short Description:

Turn your tv into a smart tv with this modern, powerful, affordable media centre.

Physical Description:

In the box you get: tv box, power adapter, remote, and hdmi cable.

Under the hood you have: Quad core 2.4 ghz processor, 4gb ram, 32 gb storage.

Connectivity includes: 2.5 ghz wireless N, 4K display via hdmi, bluetooth 4.1, ethernet.

Software: Android 8.1. This box is relatively light on bundle software, but it's launcher is terrible.

This box is very low profile and seems to perform well though I have only tested it for a day or two.

Accessibility Features:

This box comes with high contrast and large font as well as the accessibility shortcut. The entire accessibility suite and google tts need to be installed from scratch.

The launcher is terrible. It has unlabeled program icons and focus issues, and I have not found a way to add apps to the home screen. The accessibility shortcut is the only useful feature that comes with the box, and consists of pressing the back and down buttons together. The remote is nice, but is the only selling feature and isn't enough to make me buy again.

Another issue is adjusting the speed of the pointer. I need to slow it down a bit for the user.

If you don't mind getting sighted assistance for half an hour or more to set up, this could be an OK box. I mind very much, and won't be buying again even though I could really use a second one.

Experience:

I recommend avoiding.
