Assurances of continued salary till work begins in right earnest haven’t kept the migrants back, according to traders. Normally, the migrant population returns to the villages for the harvest period in late summer and comes back soon after, but this year, traumatised by the pandemic standstill, they are likely to think twice before returning to the cities.
