Rs 100 crore worth prime govt land resumed in Jubilee Hills

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad district administration on Wednesday resumed 3.31 acres of prime government land in Jubilee Hills allotted to Anand Cine Services, an outdoor film unit, as the management failed to utilise it for the purpose it was assigned. The resumed land could be worth nearly Rs 100 crore. According to revenue records, the Hyderabad district administration had allotted five-acre government land (survey No. 403) on Road No.76, Jubilee Hills in Shaikpet mandal in 2001 for putting up cinema settings and parking area. Steep rentals, lack of quality retail real estate making it tough for luxury brands to expand business in India

MUMBAI/DELHI: Niche luxury brands like Italian suit maker Kiton and British shoemaker John Lobb have started bespoke made-to-order services in India, but they are in no hurry to open swanky stores in the country. Reason: inability to find a place on the right location at reasonable rates. “Rentals in India are as high as international markets, but the demand is not as much,” said Pratik Dalmia, founder of Mumbai-based Regalia Luxury, which has the rights to market and sell Kiton and John Lobb brands in India. Steep rentals and lack of quality retail real estate at strategic locations near high-income neighbourhoods are making it hard for luxury brands to expand […]

Noida builders unable to hand over completed homes as National Green Tribunal stops delivery

NEW DELHI: Builders in Noida are unable to hand over more than 30,000 completed homes to their buyers, because of a National Green Tribunal order forbidding the Noida Authority from giving completion certificates to projects within a 10-kilometre radius of the Okhla bird sanctuary. Developers in Noida say they have in the past seven months since the tribunal’s order lost close to Rs 1,000 crore as they have been holding on the flats, paying interest on their loans as well as penalty to home buyers. “Everyone is bleeding,” said Vineet Gupta, director of the Ajnara group, which has around 1,500 apartments waiting to be handed over to buyers. Projects of […]

How China succeeded with SEZs

In China, SEZs were developed along its southern coast in the areas of Shenzhen, Shantou, Zhuhai, Hainan and Xiamen which were backward small villages lacking in basic infrastructure and industrial resources. These zones were developed as manufacturing hubs and the open access to international trade sea lanes led to their success. These SEZs attracted huge amounts of foreign capital and optimised the use of management, advanced technology and equipment. In India, apart from a few port locations, most of the existing and proposed SEZs are located inland. Moreover, the Indian policy makers could only see half the picture in assuming that the foreign investors who were not comfortable with the […]
