The $kappa$-Newtonian and $kappa$-Carrollian algebras and their noncommutative spacetimes. (arXiv:2003.03921v2 [hep-th] UPDATED)

We derive the non-relativistic $c oinfty$ and ultra-relativistic $c o 0$ limits of the $kappa$-deformed symmetries and corresponding spacetime in (3+1) dimensions, with and without a cosmological constant. We apply the theory of Lie bialgebra contractions to the Poisson version of the $kappa$-(A)dS quantum algebra, and quantize the resulting contracted Poisson-Hopf algebras, thus giving rise to the $kappa$-deformation of the Newtonian (Newton-Hooke and Galilei) and Carrollian (Para-Poincar'e, Para-Euclidean and Carroll) quantum symmetries, including their deformed quadratic Casimir operators. The corresponding $kappa$-Newtonian and $kappa$-Carrollian noncommutative spacetimes are also obtained as the non-relativistic and ultra-relativistic limits of the $kappa$-(A)dS noncommutative spacetime. These constructions allow us to analyze the non-trivial interplay between the quantum deformation parameter $kappa$, the curvature parameter $eta$ and the speed of light parameter $c$.

The classification of Rokhlin flows on C*-algebras. (arXiv:1706.09276v6 [math.OA] UPDATED)

We study flows on C*-algebras with the Rokhlin property. We show that every Kirchberg algebra carries a unique Rokhlin flow up to cocycle conjugacy, which confirms a long-standing conjecture of Kishimoto. We moreover present a classification theory for Rokhlin flows on C*-algebras satisfying certain technical properties, which hold for many C*-algebras covered by the Elliott program. As a consequence, we obtain the following further classification theorems for Rokhlin flows. Firstly, we extend the statement of Kishimoto's conjecture to the non-simple case: Up to cocycle conjugacy, a Rokhlin flow on a separable, nuclear, strongly purely infinite C*-algebra is uniquely determined by its induced action on the prime ideal space. Secondly, we give a complete classification of Rokhlin flows on simple classifiable $KK$-contractible C*-algebras: Two Rokhlin flows on such a C*-algebra are cocycle conjugate if and only if their induced actions on the cone of lower-semicontinuous traces are affinely conjugate.

Maximum of Exponential Random Variables, Hurwitz's Zeta Function, and the Partition Function. (arXiv:2005.03392v1 [math.PR])

A natural problem in the context of the coupon collector's problem is the behavior of the maximum of independent geometrically distributed random variables (with distinct parameters). This question has been addressed by Brennan et al. (British J. of Math. & CS. 8 (2015), 330-336). Here we provide explicit asymptotic expressions for the moments of that maximum, as well as of the maximum of exponential random variables with corresponding parameters. We also deal with the probability of each of the variables being the maximal one.

The calculations lead to expressions involving Hurwitz's zeta function at certain special points. We find here explicitly the values of the function at these points. Also, the distribution function of the maximum we deal with is closely related to the generating function of the partition function. Thus, our results (and proofs) rely on classical results pertaining to the partition function.

Multi-group Multicast Beamforming: Optimal Structure and Efficient Algorithms. (arXiv:1911.08925v2 [eess.SP] UPDATED)

This paper considers the multi-group multicast beamforming optimization problem, for which the optimal solution has been unknown due to the non-convex and NP-hard nature of the problem. By utilizing the successive convex approximation numerical method and Lagrangian duality, we obtain the optimal multicast beamforming solution structure for both the quality-of-service (QoS) problem and the max-min fair (MMF) problem. The optimal structure brings valuable insights into multicast beamforming: We show that the notion of uplink-downlink duality can be generalized to the multicast beamforming problem. The optimal multicast beamformer is a weighted MMSE filter based on a group-channel direction: a generalized version of the optimal downlink multi-user unicast beamformer. We also show that there is an inherent low-dimensional structure in the optimal multicast beamforming solution independent of the number of transmit antennas, leading to efficient numerical algorithm design, especially for systems with large antenna arrays. We propose efficient algorithms to compute the multicast beamformer based on the optimal beamforming structure. Through asymptotic analysis, we characterize the asymptotic behavior of the multicast beamformers as the number of antennas grows, and in turn, provide simple closed-form approximate multicast beamformers for both the QoS and MMF problems. This approximation offers practical multicast beamforming solutions with a near-optimal performance at very low computational complexity for large-scale antenna systems.

Text Recognition in the Wild: A Survey. (arXiv:2005.03492v1 [cs.CV])

The history of text can be traced back over thousands of years. Rich and precise semantic information carried by text is important in a wide range of vision-based application scenarios. Therefore, text recognition in natural scenes has been an active research field in computer vision and pattern recognition. In recent years, with the rise and development of deep learning, numerous methods have shown promising in terms of innovation, practicality, and efficiency. This paper aims to (1) summarize the fundamental problems and the state-of-the-art associated with scene text recognition; (2) introduce new insights and ideas; (3) provide a comprehensive review of publicly available resources; (4) point out directions for future work. In summary, this literature review attempts to present the entire picture of the field of scene text recognition. It provides a comprehensive reference for people entering this field, and could be helpful to inspire future research. Related resources are available at our Github repository: https://github.com/HCIILAB/Scene-Text-Recognition.

YANG2UML: Bijective Transformation and Simplification of YANG to UML. (arXiv:2005.03292v1 [cs.SE])

Software Defined Networking is currently revolutionizing computer networking by decoupling the network control (control plane) from the forwarding functions (data plane) enabling the network control to become directly programmable and the underlying infrastructure to be abstracted for applications and network services. Next to the well-known OpenFlow protocol, the XML-based NETCONF protocol is also an important means for exchanging configuration information from a management platform and is nowadays even part of OpenFlow. In combination with NETCONF, YANG is the corresponding protocol that defines the associated data structures supporting virtually all network configuration protocols. YANG itself is a semantically rich language, which -- in order to facilitate familiarization with the relevant subject -- is often visualized to involve other experts or developers and to support them by their daily work (writing applications which make use of YANG). In order to support this process, this paper presents an novel approach to optimize and simplify YANG data models to assist further discussions with the management and implementations (especially of interfaces) to reduce complexity. Therefore, we have defined a bidirectional mapping of YANG to UML and developed a tool that renders the created UML diagrams. This combines the benefits to use the formal language YANG with automatically maintained UML diagrams to involve other experts or developers, closing the gap between technically improved data models and their human readability.

Trains, Games, and Complexity: 0/1/2-Player Motion Planning through Input/Output Gadgets. (arXiv:2005.03192v1 [cs.CC])

We analyze the computational complexity of motion planning through local "input/output" gadgets with separate entrances and exits, and a subset of allowed traversals from entrances to exits, each of which changes the state of the gadget and thereby the allowed traversals. We study such gadgets in the 0-, 1-, and 2-player settings, in particular extending past motion-planning-through-gadgets work to 0-player games for the first time, by considering "branchless" connections between gadgets that route every gadget's exit to a unique gadget's entrance. Our complexity results include containment in L, NL, P, NP, and PSPACE; as well as hardness for NL, P, NP, and PSPACE. We apply these results to show PSPACE-completeness for certain mechanics in Factorio, [the Sequence], and a restricted version of Trainyard, improving prior results. This work strengthens prior results on switching graphs and reachability switching games.

Eliminating NB-IoT Interference to LTE System: a Sparse Machine Learning Based Approach. (arXiv:2005.03092v1 [cs.IT])

Narrowband internet-of-things (NB-IoT) is a competitive 5G technology for massive machine-type communication scenarios, but meanwhile introduces narrowband interference (NBI) to existing broadband transmission such as the long term evolution (LTE) systems in enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) scenarios. In order to facilitate the harmonic and fair coexistence in wireless heterogeneous networks, it is important to eliminate NB-IoT interference to LTE systems. In this paper, a novel sparse machine learning based framework and a sparse combinatorial optimization problem is formulated for accurate NBI recovery, which can be efficiently solved using the proposed iterative sparse learning algorithm called sparse cross-entropy minimization (SCEM). To further improve the recovery accuracy and convergence rate, regularization is introduced to the loss function in the enhanced algorithm called regularized SCEM. Moreover, exploiting the spatial correlation of NBI, the framework is extended to multiple-input multiple-output systems. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed methods are effective in eliminating NB-IoT interference to LTE systems, and significantly outperform the state-of-the-art methods.

Peter McConnell's 1928 Banjo Gives 'Plants Vs. Zombies' A 'Down Home' Vibe

Award-winning composer Peter McConnell is no stranger to the world of Plants vs. Zombies . Battle for Neighborville is his third soundtrack for the series. He's also no stranger to the banjo! He's been playing since he was 13, but when he spied a gorgeous 1928 Gibson five-string in a music store he regularly haunts, he knew it would be perfect for the Cheese Mines levels in the game. Peter gave the whole soundtrack a real roots feel, also using a slide guitar. He even wrote his own, in his words, "earnest" folk song, Where Have All the Plants Gone , inspired by legendary folksinger Joan Baez, who's actually a neighbor. Because Plants vs. Zombies Battle for Neighborville is a science fiction game at heart, Peter also added plenty of classic synths. He says the developers at Pop Cap also suggested the sound of the score for The Time Machine, based on the novel by H.G. Wells. Peter says getting the right emotion in his music for a game keeps the writing interesting, whether it's the

Suspect Eliminated, Police Still Looking For Answers In '92 Disappearance

The Illinois State Police on Friday made an announcement about the May 6 arrest in Iowa of Clark Terry Baldwin. He was wanted for the 1991 Tennessee murders of Pamela McCall and her unborn son, and the murders of two unidentified women discovered separately in Wyoming in 1992. In the ISP announcement, titled "Illinois State Police Announce An Update to the Tammy Zywicki Case," the ISP indicated that "at this time, Baldwin does not appear to have been involved with the murder of Tammy Zywicki." Zywicki, a 21-year-old college student, was abducted and killed by an unknown assailant after experiencing car trouble on I-80 near LaSalle, IL in August 1992. Reports at the time that she had been picked up by a trucker led nowhere. Baldwin was a long-haul trucker and suspected serial killer operating during the same time frame. He fit the profile of Zywicki's murderer and it was reported that authorities were investigating whether he might be involved. The ISP said it was continuing to

WEINBERG, M.: Clarinet Music - Clarinet Concerto / Clarinet Sonata / Chamber Symphony No. 4 (Oberaigner, Schöch, Michail Jurowski) (8.574192)

Mieczysław Weinberg was familiar with the clarinet from his youth, given its prominent place in klezmer bands and theatre ensembles, and he wrote three works specifically for the instrument. In the Clarinet Concerto he draws a wide range of textures from the accompanying strings, over which the soloist explores the clarinet’s extremes of register in virtuosic fashion. Despite having been written when Weinberg was still in his mid-twenties, the Clarinet Sonata is a mature work with Romantic and folkloric elements. His last completed work was the Chamber Symphony No. 4, an impassioned piece with a wrenching chorale theme and role for obbligato clarinet.
