cle What is Article 13 and will it kill memes? | WIRED Explains By www.wired.com Published On :: Mon, 25 Mar 2019 05:24:23 +0000 The European Union Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market, to use its full name, requires the likes of YouTube, Facebook and Twitter to take more responsibility for copyrighted material being shared illegally on their platforms. It's become known by its most controversial segment, called Article 13, which critics claim will have a detrimental impact on creators online. YouTube, and YouTubers, have become the most vocal opponents of the proposal. But Article 13 and the Directive on Copyright isn’t law yet. It still has to go through a series of steps before it becomes finalised as an EU directive, and it's currently stalling as European Union member states can't agree on the final wording of the Directive. To help clear things up, here’s WIRED’s guide to the EU Directive on Copyright. Read our guide for more: https://www.wired.co.uk/article/what-is-article-13-article-11-european-directive-on-copyright-explained-meme-ban #article13 #copyright #SaveYourInternet Full Article
cle Lucy Yu | Think like a human: Self-driving vehicles and the rules of the road By www.wired.com Published On :: Mon, 08 Jul 2019 11:41:20 +0000 Lucy Yu, Director of Public Policy at FiveAI, is focusing on how to translate the rules of the road – designed and written with human drivers in mind – to the language of computers. Autonomous vehicles may have better sensors than humans, but their ability to reason in ambiguous or new situations is limited. To codify the intuitions many humans rely on when driving, FiveAI starts by providing rules for the car to follow in the most standard conditions, then gives it experience in a controlled version of real world driving. cle Inside CopenHill: The clean energy plant with its own ski slope | On Location By www.wired.com Published On :: Wed, 08 Jan 2020 04:06:14 +0000 In Copenhagen, Denmark lies Amager Bakke, a unique power plant. Not only is it the world's cleanest waste-to-energy facility, it's also home to a man-made mountain called CopenHill with its own ski slope, the world's tallest climbing wall and challenging hiking trails up the building where you'll find the best views of Copenhagen. Opened in October 2019, the building was designed Bjarke Ingels Group (aka BIG) with an aim to create a building that can "contribute positively to the city, become part of the city, and even to be a landmark of the capital". The plant serves 680,000 people and takes waste from up to 300 lorries each day. Its steam turbine produces 63MWh of energy, while its heat exchangers are used in a district heating system. cle Inside JET: The world's biggest nuclear fusion experiment | On Location By www.wired.com Published On :: Wed, 18 Nov 2020 08:14:25 +0000 Inside these walls, scientists have been trying for decades to create an unlimited source of energy, nuclear fusion. Welcome to JET, the world's biggest nuclear fusion experiment. Scientists argue that fusion could replace coal gas and nuclear fission in the energy mix alongside renewable energy, which can prove to be unreliable. If we can learn to control it, nuclear fusion could change life as we know it. But that's a big if.
