A spring snowstorm overnight on May 8 into May 9 blanketed northern New Jersey with cold and snow, weather reports said. Parts of New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware were also affected by the storm. Visibility in parts of southern Ontario, Canada, was severely affected as a snow squall blanketed areas of the province — including the town of Barrie — on May 9, reports said . A frost advisory notice was issued for the area by the Canadian government, warning that “near or below freezing temperatures” were expected through Wednesday, May 13. The present disclosure relates to a component for a railway snow melter. The component includes a mounting plate adapted for connection to a tie duct. A snow quality measuring apparatus according to one aspect of the present invention includes a plurality of reflectors, at least one transmitter, at least one receiver, and a measuring device. The plurality of reflectors are respectively arranged at a plurality of prescribed heights above the ground.
