How heavy use of social media is linked to mental illness
According to a survey in 2017 by the Royal Society for Public Health, Britons aged 14-24 believe that Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter have detrimental effects on their wellbeing. On average, they reported that these social networks gave them extra scope for self-expression and community-building.

Social media still growing in emerging markets but stalled elsewhere
In 2015-16, roughly four-in-ten adults across the emerging nations surveyed by Pew said they used social networking sites, and as of 2017, a majority (53%) use social media. Whereas, over the same period, social media use has generally been flat in many of the advanced economies surveyed.
Internet use and smartphone ownership have also stayed level in developed markets over the same period vs rising in emerging economies.

Facebook User Growth Stalls
The social network ended the third quarter with 2.27 billion monthly active users, up slightly from the 2.23 billion it had last quarter.
As problems persist for Facebook over its handling of user data, the social networking giant revealed that user growth continued to slow during its third-quarter earnings report on Monday.
Facebook had 2.27 billion monthly active users (MAUs) during the quarter, up 10 percent year-over-year but only up slightly from the 2.23 billion it reported at the end of the second quarter. In the U.S., Facebook added just 1 million MAUs. Meanwhile, it lost 1 million MAUs in the Europe. Most of the company's growth came from Asia-Pacific and the rest of the world.

Talent Powers TVs Social Media Engagement
Talent drives engagement when it comes to posts from social media accounts owned by TV shows and networks.
According to Nielsen, which earlier this year started measuring Owned Account Performance as part of its Nielsen Social Content Ratings talent accounts generated almost 20 million engagements for their associated TV programs.
That represents about 30% of all owned engagement for series and special programming.
For a three-week period during this year’s fall series premieres, Nielsen Social Content Ratings measured over 160,000 pieces of TV content and over 250 million engagements coming from thousands of active owned accounts.

Doctor uses social media to raise mental health awareness
According to a 2014 survey by the United States Office of Minority Health, only 9.4% of non-Hispanic black adults received mental health treatment or counseling, compared to 18.8% of non-Hispanic white adults.
Clemons explained that one of the many reasons there is a stigma around mental health in the black community is that if someone can not deal with issues in church then the thought is that you don't have enough faith or you are not giving it over to the church enough.
