In one aspect, the invention is directed to an overhead crane with one or more bridge rails, that incorporates a reinforcement truss into its one or more bridge rails so as to reduce the overall mass of the one or more bridge rails. This facilitates movement of a load carried by the bridge by an operator to a destination point, particularly in embodiments wherein the one or more bridge rails do not have any bridge drive motors thereon. Reducing the mass of the bridge can increase the amount of lifted load that can comfortably be maneuvered by an operator, particularly when the bridge is manually moved along the runway. Additionally, reducing the mass of the bridge reduces the momentum associated with the bridge, which can increase the amount of control that the operator has when it is desired to stop the bridge when the load has been maneuvered to its desired destination point. The second reinforcement members may have first and second ends that are inserted into receiving apertures in the first reinforcement member and in a bracket that mounts to the bridge rail respectively. In embodiments wherein the bridge includes two rails and is capable of supporting a load in such a way as to generate a downward force that is offset from the bridge axis, the second reinforcement members may be connected to the first reinforcement member and to brackets in such a way as to prevent the withdrawal of the second reinforcement members from the receiving apertures.

Crane assembly

A crane assembly includes a main body, a boom extending from the main body, a cable, and a hook coupled to an end of the boom opposite to the main body by the cable, where the crane assembly is configured for lifting items via the hook. The crane assembly further includes a projection extending outward from the boom and curving toward the main body. The projection is configured to receive the hook over an end of the projection such that tension in the cable maintains the hook in place on the projection. Gravity is sufficient to release the hook from the projection when the boom is raised and the tension in the cable is released.

Crane mat carrier

A user-friendly crane mat carrier is provided for conveniently transporting, storing and supporting crane mats, pads and other items. The economical light weight crane mat assembly can comprise a frame assembly with a main load-supporting bar, crossbars and perimeter bars. The special crane mat carrier can be easily connected to a crane, such as with a drawbar fixture, securing plate and locking plate. A hanger assembly with a suspension bar can be provided to hang the crane mat carrier. A latch mechanism can also be provided to securely lock the crane mat carrier.

A method and apparatus for fabricating microbraided structures is provided. A microbraiding device includes first and second carrier members that are movable with respect to each other. Each carrier includes a plurality of shelters. Spool-less strands of microfiber are retained in shuttles that are movable between the first and second shelters under magnetic forces. The microbraid structure is fabricated as the shuttles move between the first shelters, and as the first carrier member moves relative to the second carrier member.

Each of the various superposed braided layers comprises both longitudinal fibers (12, 12G) that are parallel to a main direction of the mandrel (11), and interlacing fibers that are inclined. At least one operation is configured to form and deposit a braided layer having, in at least one cross-section of the member, a density of longitudinal fibers that differs depending on whether consideration is given to one angular region (S1) or another angular region (S2) of the same extent around the center of gravity (G) of the mandrel (11) in the section under consideration.

Railroad signaling and communication system using a fail-safe voltage sensor to verify trackside conditions in safety-critical railroad applications

A method and system for verifying trackside conditions in safety critical railroad applications by reporting the status of trackside signals and switches to a remote train control system. The system comprises at least one sensor for providing trackside conditions electrically connected to a circuit for providing trackside conditions to a railroad, said sensor being powered by voltage applied to the circuit such that the sensor is energized only when said electrical component is engaged. The system and method further comprises a method and system which is failsafe and which enables the control system to independently verify signals from each sensor.
