During the 17th meeting of ETSI’s Securing AI Industry Specification Group, Scott Cadzow from Cadzow Communications, was elected as the new Chair.

His vision is to confirm ISG SAI as the European Union’s and Standards Development Organizations’ centre of excellence in the topic of securing Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

AI is, or is likely to become, endemic. All reasonably complex software will eventually include AI elements and he is convinced that ETSI is well placed to become thought leader on the role of AI and, particularly, the role of standards for AI, addressing the challenges to standardization of the forthcoming AI Act.

Tenable Selected by Bank of Yokohama to Secure its Active Directory and Eliminate Attack Paths

Tenable®, Inc. the exposure management company, today announced that Bank of Yokohama, one of the largest of the major regional banks in Japan, has chosen Tenable Identity Exposure to protect its Active Directory and enhance the bank’s ability to protect its internal systems from cyber threats.

Bank of Yokohama, based in Kanagawa Prefecture and Tokyo Metropolitan, is committed to enhancing industry security standards. In 2023, it collaborated with 19 other regional banks to establish CMS-CSIRT, an organization providing mutual cybersecurity support. Unlike megabanks, regional banks often face resource and budget constraints, making such collaborative efforts crucial for implementing effective security programs.

As part of its objectives for FY 2023, the Bank of Yokohama wanted to improve Active Directory (AD) security as it’s the most crucial system in the bank’s intranet. Previously, the bank only applied security patches periodically without any tool or system to detect Active Directory misconfigurations or attacks. Given the evolving threat landscape and rise of attacks involving an identity breach, enhancing the security of Active Directory became a top priority.

“Attackers who have infiltrated an organization's internal system or who wield ransomware and other malware, almost always make a beeline for Active Directory,” said Mr. Akihiro Fushimi, Leader, Concordia Financial Group ICT Governance Department, Security Governance Section and Bank of Yokohama ICT Planning & Promotion Department, Security Governance Section. “They steal user account privileges and elevate them via Active Directory, to enable them to access important data. So, securing Active Directory was an area that we wanted to invest in.”

Bank of Yokohama already used Tenable Security Center for vulnerability management and trusted Tenable's reliability. Selecting Tenable Identity Exposure was an easy decision, with its fast, agentless feature ensuring a seamless deployment process.

The deployment of Tenable Identity Exposure provided the Bank of Yokohama with an in-depth view of its Active Directory. The bank can now accurately identify every AD account, including dormant accounts and machine identities, and understand the potential risks of exploitation by malicious actors due to the multi-functional capabilities of Active Directory. Tenable Identity Exposure detects many of the techniques used in cyber attacks to gain elevated privileges and enable lateral movement, including DCShadow, Brute Force, Password Spraying, Golden Ticket and more.

Kristen Pellegrino, recipient of the 2024 Christopher Kendall Award from the SMTD Alumni Board, presents a guest lecture with support from the Department of Music Education.

Many researchers have found connections between (a) developing a strong teacher identity; (b) building connections among themselves, their subject, and their students; and (c) positively affecting student learning and teacher satisfaction/ resilience. I will briefly share how I became interested in studying music teacher identity and my process of reframing how to study it. Then, I will spend most of the session sharing what I have learned about college music education majors’ music teacher identity development, and public-school string teachers’ and music teachers’ experiences, beliefs, teaching practices, and identities.

KRISTEN PELLEGRINO, Professor of Music Education at the University of Texas at San Antonio and Past-President of American String Teachers Association, has 40 scholarly publications. In addition to international and national research journal articles and book chapters, Kristen was co-editor of two Oxford University Press books (2019, 2023). She is currently co-authoring a third book, Conway Publications’ *Journeys of Becoming and Being Music Teachers* (forthcoming, 2025). Pellegrino’s degrees are from the University of Michigan (Ph.D. in music education; M.M. in violin/chamber music performance) and the Eastman School of Music (B.M. in music education; B.M. in violin performance).

Mean field games model the strategic interaction among a large number of players by reducing the problem to two entities: the statistical distribution of all players on the one hand and a representative player on the other. The master equation, introduce by Lions, models this interaction in a single equation, whose independent variables are time, state, and distribution. It can be viewed as a nonlinear transport equation on an infinite dimensional space. Solving this transport equation by the method of characteristics is essentially equivalent to finding the unique Nash equilibrium. When the equilibrium is not unique, we seek selection principles, i.e. how to determine which equilibrium players should follow in practice. A natural question, from the mathematical point of view, is whether entropy solutions can be used as a selection principle. We will examine certain classes of mean field games to show that the question is rather subtle and yields both positive and negative results.

Naval warfare was confined for centuries to surface combat and undersea clashes. In the 20th century, aerial warfare became the third domain, and shortly thereafter, the electromagnetic spectrum also appeared. When navies began to make use of the airwaves, they soon discovered those waves could also be exploited as a source of information about the opposing force, beginning the discipline of electronic intelligence (ELINT). Furthermore, navies learned the value of interrupting or corrupting the enemy’s communication signals that were transmitted in the “ether," leading to the method of fighting termed electronic warfare (EW).

In this book, Wildenberg cuts through the secrecy about this understandably mysterious domain of combat. He offers details on aircraft and methods and provides a layman’s set of definitions of terms. Wildenberg shares lessons learned from World War II skirmishes as well as clashes in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, while providing the audience with a foundational understanding of this complex form of combat in all its forms.

This book discloses rarely covered concepts and methods that will shape future conflict among great powers.

About the Author:
Thomas Wildenberg is an independent historian and scholar with special interests in aviators, naval aviation, and technological innovation in the military. He has written extensively about the U.S. Navy during the interwar period. His articles have appeared in several scholarly journals, including the Journal of Military History, American Neptune, Air Power History, and U.S. Naval Institute Proceedings. He is the author of several books on naval history covering such varied topics as replenishment at sea, the development of dive bombing, and the history of the torpedo in the U.S. Navy. His interest in the personalities of innovators has led to books on Admiral Joseph Mason Reeves, Billy Mitchel, Charles Stark Draper, and Howard Hughes. His latest work, “The Origins of Aegis,” has just been released by the Naval Institute Press.

Mr. Wildenberg served as a Ramsey Fellow at the National Air and Space Museum from 1999-2000. He is a recipient of the Arthur W. Radford Award for Excellence in Naval Aviation History (2012), the Surface Navy Association Literary Award (2005), and two John Laymen Awards from the North American Society for Oceanic History for best naval history (2013) and best biography (2003). He received the Air Force Historical Foundation's award for the best article in the 2009 volume of Air Power History, was awarded an honorable mention in the Ernest J. Eller Prize in Naval History (1994), and received the Edward S. Miller Naval War College Research Fellowship (1998).
