The Holy Spirit Pt33: The Gifts Of The Spirit - Interpretation Of Tongues

Join us for Part 33 of 'The Holy Spirit' as we continue looking at the gifts of the Spirit in 'Interpretation Of Tongues'. We have already learned that all the gifts of the Spirit are intended for the edification of the church. For a message in tongues, that means it should be interpreted. In this study, David considers the spiritual gift of interpretation of tongues. Why is it needed? How might it operate? Who should have it? Come and learn more about how the gifts of interpretation of tongues and tongues work together to build up Christ's body the church. Topical Sermon: The Sunday After Easter

For 'The Sunday After Easter', we visit the scenes depicted in John 20, when the risen Lord Jesus Christ appeared to His disciples. On the first occasion, Thomas is missing from the gathering and this causes doubt to rise in his heart and mind. But when Jesus appears again and speaks directly to Thomas, countering his doubts and fears, his faith is embolded to declare 'My Lord and my God!'. Join us as David Legge draws lessons from this encounter for 'The Sunday After Easter'. Jesus' Preparation For Ministry Pt2: Learning To Minister From Identity

Many of us have been conditioned by life and culture to serve to obtain identity rather than ministering from our identity in Christ. Jesus knew who He was and what the Father thought of Him; this impacted how He served God. However, many of us behave as orphans in ministry, which often ends in our own hurt and that of others. In this message on 'Learning To Minister From Identity', David teaches us to minister from identity as children of God rather than ministering from identity like orphans. Brothers and Sisters

A friend posted this quote earlier today on Facebook and I had to borrow it.

"To the outside world we all grow old. But not to brothers and sisters. We know each other as we always were. We know each other's hearts. We share private family jokes. We remember family feuds and secrets, family griefs and joys. We live outside the touch of time."
 -Clara Ortega

Our children are all still young but it made me go back and look at the past 9 years. Here's what I found:

So very thankful they have each other.

Had My ESA Medical Yesterday.

Regular readers will be aware that I have been campaigning against the austerity cuts our government is imposing on the UK and the effect they are having on disabled people. The benefiits system is being changed, and the benefit I currently recieve is called Income Support, this is being phased out and everyone is being put onto the new disability benefit ESA. As this happens many disabled people are having their benefits cut or completely stopped as a result of being unfairly declared fit for work by the flawed capability assessment, at the same time as services for us are also being cut, a huge accident waiting to happen I'm sure you'll agree.

In fact things are already terrible, people are commiting suicide after having their benefits stopped or just from fear of having to go to the medical. Others have died  from the stress of having to appeal whilst genuinely ill. I read only a couple of days about a woman who died as the stress of all these changes was too much, and a week later her mother also died after witnessing her daughters money being stopped and her eventual death at the stress of appealing.

There are many cases like the one I have mentioned above yet the government are still pressing ahead with these cuts to disability benefits, even though almost daily rich people are being exposed as tax evaders and bankers who have actually failed us terribly are still receiveing pay offs and bonuses.

I finally had my medical yesterday, it wasn't as bad as I thought as the asessment has been changed to suit people with mental illness better (previously everyone was given the same assessment regardless of their disability, which is grossly unfair to people with mental illness). So I wasn't asked to do any strange physical tests as others have, they just asked me about my mental health. The woman was really nice but it's not her decision what happens next.  I will either be put into the "support" group where I will be repeated re-assessed but not have to go to the job center or be forced to try and find work.

 Or I could be placed in the "Work related activity group" where I will have to go to work focused interviews and after a year my disability benefits will completely stop and I will have to sign on to the benefit designed for people who are fit to work.

If this happens then it will be the end for me as I am not fit to work, I've chronic anxiety based depression since childhood and as a result of that have social anxiety and insomnia. So I don't sleep, can't get up early and on some days can't even talk to anyone or leave the flat. Unemployment where I live is incredibly high compared to the rest of the country anyway so the chances of a woman who can't be on time for work or even come in some days beating someone who is in goood health are zero, I have no chance of finding work. In fact I don't even meet the criteria to sign on JSA so will probably end up homeless as my rent will not be paid.

I just have to pray it's the support group.

ter

The Computer Said No.

The decision after my work capability assessment came back remarkably quickly, I received it on Wednesday. I have been turned down for ESA as I was only awarded 6 points and you need 15 points to receive it.  My next payment of Income Support will be my last.

I was very shocked by this as I expected to be put in the "work related activity group"  (WRAG) at least, and still receive ESA at a reduced rate for a year and have to attend work focused interviews etc.  But they have apparently denied my illness altogether almost and said I can't even receive ESA at all. I really wish I had recorded the assessment now as she has not recorded what I said and has failed to award me points accordingly.

I am of course appealing their decision and have an appointment with citizens advice next week, I'm going to have to get a sick note from my doctor too and attempt to claim ESA while I wait for my appeal to be heard.

I went to the doctor yesterday on an emergency appointment to get more antidepressants and sleeping pills as I bloody need them now obviously, my illness has got dramatically worse since hearing this and realising I'm going to have to go before a tribunal and face uncertainty while I wait for that. I have to start my appeal before I can ask to receive ESA while I wait for the tribunal, I don't know if they can turn down my claiming ESA while I wait either as if they do I'm screwed.

 I can't claim Job Seekers allowance there is no way I could meet the criteria necessary to do it, and cope with going to sign on once a fortnight and face the meeting with an advisor. If my benefits stop altogether I could lose housing benefit which will put my home in jeopardy too, I've been advised to just keep in touch with the housing benefit people while it all gets sorted out and hopefully my rent won't stop.

Atos monlogues "Internet Survey number 2" for art action week project.

Picture by Stewart
If we're going to do any of the Atos monologues I'm going to need a lot of volunteers who can record themselves and somehow send the video, because of the amount of time we have I think we can only do a small part. Mainly because we don't have time to send larger videos which would probably have to be sent by post on a disc. There are a lot of lines in this part, and the resulting videos will hopefully be short enough to email or send over facebook. If you just upload them to the art action group I can download them from there.
I've moved this post onto the blog as it's easier to share a link to it, and I can strike through the lines that are already taken.  If you want to take part chose the line you want to read from the list below, record it and you can send it to me through facebook. If you don't use facebook leave a comment and we'll find another way for you to send me the video. And if the line you wanted has a line through it sorry someone has already taken that one.
Here is the full Atos Monologues 2 script:

You drive an Audi. How would you afford it? It would be too difficult for a disabled person to get in.

You can tweet
You watch TV and soaps and can sit comfortably for half an hour.
I saw you stand up!
'You're too young'
You can pick up a £1 coin
"You seem alright to me"
"You're smiling"
You look butch. Can't be anything wrong with you.
You could fill in the form.
You brushed your hair this morning and you’re wearing a nice coat
You answered questions that was asked
You traveled by bus
You don’t soil yourself every day.
You could fill in the form
You’re still breathing
You can spell your name backwards
You're not a dribbling, disheveled lunatic howling at the moon and threatening to axe people to death
You hold eye contact
You don’t look disabled enough to me
You brushed your teeth this morning.
You’re faking it.
You can’t have Post traumatic stress disorder because "you've never been in a war zone"
You’re at university.
You have a girl friend.
You don’t look autistic
You can talk
I cannot see anything wrong with you
You moved your leg.
You can lift an empty box up to waist height.
You’re so pretty.
PAUSE
You can’t be disabled because of Tory ideology

Vijesti :: Grb grada Malog Lošinja dvojici pripadnika Jedinice specijalne i interventne policije Osijek

Autor: Redakcija 031 Naslov: Grb grada Malog Lošinja dvojici pripadnika Jedinice specijalne i interventne policije Osijek

Performance Counters in Delphi, sample project and article

Implementing performance monitors in your app is very helpful for profiling, debugging and general satisfaction of the more qualified endusers. It's also a non-trivial excercise, to put it mildly. Microsoft have done their part in making it obscure and hard to use, so naturally, we can't leave it alone, can we? This particular implementation only implements raw and delta counters, but that covers almost anything you'll ever need. The basis is there for other types of counters, though, such as instance based counters and high-precision. Both precompiled and full project source is available.

Inverted tables: an alternative to relational structures

articles:

The inverted table format can deliver fast and flexible query capabilities, but is not widely used. ADABAS is probably the most successful implementation, but how often do you see that nowadays? Following is a description of how to implement inverted structures within a relational database. All code run on Oracle Database 12c, release 12.1.0.1.

Consider this table and a few rows, that describe the contents of my larder:

create table food(id number,capacity varchar2(10),container varchar2(10),item varchar2(10));
insert into food values(1,'large','bag','potatoes');
insert into food values(2,'small','box','carrots');
insert into food values(3,'medium','tin','peas');
insert into food values(4,'large','box','potatoes');
insert into food values(5,'small','tin','carrots');
insert into food values(6,'medium','bag','peas');
insert into food values(7,'large','tin','potatoes');
insert into food values(8,'small','bag','carrots');
insert into food values(9,'medium','box','peas');

The queries I run against the table might be "how many large boxes have I?" or "give me all the potatoes, I don't care about how they are packed". The idea is that I do not know in advance what columns I will be using in my predicate: it could be any combination. This is a common issue in a data warehouse.
So how do I index the table to satisfy any possible query? Two obvious possibilities:
First, build an index on each column, and the optimizer can perform an index_combine operation on whatever columns happen to be listed in the predicate. But that means indexing every column - and the table might have hundreds of columns. No way can I do that.
Second, build a concatenated index across all the columns: in effect, use an IOT. That will give me range scan access if any of the predicated columns are in the leading edge of the index key followed by filtering on the rest of the predicate. Or if the predicate does not include the leading column(s), I can get skip scan access and filter. But this is pretty useless, too: there will be wildly divergent performance depending on the predicate.
The answer is to invert the table:
create table inverted(colname varchar2(10),colvalue varchar2(10),id number);
insert into inverted select 'capacity',capacity,id from food;
insert into inverted select 'container',container,id from food;
insert into inverted select 'item',item,id from food;

Now just one index on each table can satisfy all queries:
create index food_i on food(id);
create index inverted_i on inverted(colname,colvalue);

To retrieve all the large boxes:
orclz> set autotrace on explain
orclz> select * from food where id in
  2 (select id from inverted where colname='capacity' and colvalue='large'
  3  intersect
  4  select id from inverted where colname='container' and colvalue='box');

orclz>

Of course, consideration needs to be given to handling more complex boolean expressions; maintaining the inversion is going to take resources; and a query generator has to construct the inversion code and re-write the queries. But In principle, this structure can deliver indexed access for unpredictable predicates of any number of any columns, with no separate filtering operation. Can you do that with a normalized star schema? I don't think so.
I hope this little thought experiment has stimulated the little grey cells, and made the point that relational structures are not always optimal for all problems.
