During the Gaidar forum on "Russia and the World: Challenges of Integration", OECD Chief of Staff and G20 Sherpa Gabriela Ramos gave a presentation on the role of the G20 in solving the global economic and financial crisis, the most pressing challenges the Group faces today and OECD recommendations to address them, as well as Russian G20 Presidency’s role in moving forward the G20 agenda.”

Russia is facing huge challenges. It is incredibly rich in natural and human assets. To modernize itself and thus diversify, it needs to invest in these assets and to preserve them. The reform agenda is daunting, covering structural, social, environmental and institutional reforms. A lot has already been done but implementation remains a critical challenge, said OECD's Gurría.

The Secretary-General of the OECD will be in Moscow from 14th to 16th February 2013, to attend the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting organized under the Chairmanship of the Russian Federation.

In his remarks, OECD Secretary-General answers the three following questions: Where is growth going to come from? How sustainable will it be? Who is going to benefit from it?

Russia’s official statistics are compiled with a high a degree of professionalism and now have a solid legal basis, but their scope, timeliness and international comparability needs to be improved, according to an initial assessment by the OECD.

The Secretary-General of the OECD, Mr. Angel Gurría, will be in Moscow, from 17th to 20th July 2013, to attend the G20 Labour Ministers Meeting & the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting.

There is no one-size-fits-all solution to restoring inclusive growth, jobs and trust. Macroeconomic, structural policies and labour activation strategies are all required. The G20 process can play a pivotal role in helping countries identify effective policies and implement them, said Angel Gurría

Mr. Angel Gurría, Secretary-General of the OECD, will participate at the G20 Leader’s Summit taking place in St. Petersburg, Russia, on 4-6 September 2013.

Russia has yet to address key provisions of the OECD Anti-Bribery Convention, which entered into force in Russia in April 2012. It has not yet fully implemented recommendations for strengthening its framework for combating foreign bribery and should be more proactive in detecting, investigating and prosecuting foreign bribery cases.

Mr. Angel Gurría, Secretary-General of the OECD, was in Moscow to attend the Gaidar Forum where he presented the OECD Economic Survey of the Russian Federation. His visit also included meetings with Prime Minister Medvedev, Deputy Prime Minister Shuvalov and members of the cabinet and the business community.

Further to a meeting of its governing Council on 12 March 2014, the OECD has postponed activities related to the accession process of the Russian Federation to the OECD for the time being.

Achieving strong growth in the global economy remains elusive, with only a modest recovery in advanced economies and slower activity in emerging markets, according to the OECD’s latest Interim Economic Outlook.

The sharp fall in global oil prices has contributed to a prolonged recession in the Russian Federation, along with geopolitical uncertainties. While growth is projected to turn positive again in 2017, the recovery is expected to be slow.
