Apple makes room for new Macs by rethinking retail Vision Pro demo stations

Apple is set to streamline its retail displays, making way for new Mac models by downgrading the Apple Vision Pro demo experience.

Apple Vision Pro

Starting November 8, Apple will pilot a revised store layout in select retail locations, merging the Vision Pro demo and display tables. The shift will make space for the latest Mac products, including the M4 models.

The new format will reduce the two separate Vision Pro tables — a layout for demo and display units — into a single, multifunctional table. Along with accommodating new Mac displays, Apple's move will address low Vision Pro sales.

iPad mini 7 review: a more mighty micro tablet

There's not much new to talk about regarding the iPad mini 7 beyond the chipset upgrade that provides a much-needed mid-life upgrade.

iPad mini 7 review: a more powerful mini

It's human nature to like something simply because it looks new and different, so the iPad mini 7 may come across as boring to some. However, it is anything but boring as the A17 Pro transforms this little tablet into a portable gaming powerhouse and Apple Intelligence machine.

The iPad mini 6 was a revolution when it was announced in 2021. Apple fully redesigned the little tablet and gave it the no-button, all-screen makeover the rest of the lineup had seen.

iPhone 18 Pro rumored to gain a variable aperture wide-angle lens

In a major update to the camera system, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the iPhone 18 Pro's wide angle lens will be upgraded to have a variable aperture.

Apple may update the iPhone's wide-angle lens to give it a variable aperture

Rumors concerning the cameras in the forthcoming iPhone 17 range and later have previously varied from saying they will get better bokeh, to how the front camera's resolution will double to 24MP. New Mac mini has a slotted & removable SSD -- but don't expect upgrades

Apple isn't soldering the SSD to the logic board in the M4 Mac mini, but given the company's history with Apple Silicon, don't expect upgrades.

A Mac mini and a disassembled Mac mini - Image credit: KianWee Lim/iFixit and Apple

Older Intel-based Mac minis provided intrepid users with the ability to disassemble the computer and to upgrade a few components. The 2018 model had upgradeable RAM, but easily replaceable internal storage on the Mac mini has been a thing of the past for a decade.

A question posed to the iFixit forums innocently asks if the SSD in the 2024 Mac mini is soldered in place. Soldered storage is practice that Apple has performed throughout the Apple Silicon age, for the most part, making it extremely difficult for anyone to replace.

iPhone 16 Pro Max review two months later -- Like Apple says, the best iPhone yet

Maybe there isn't one giant improvement in the iPhone 16 Pro Max from its predecessor, but there are many improvements worth the steep price of admission.

Apple Vision Pro 2 with M5 chip likely to arrive before budget models

Apple is likely to launch a refreshed Apple Vision Pro headset before a cheaper version of the product arrives, according to a new report.

An updated Apple Vision Pro could sport an M5 chip and other improvements.

Apple is believed to be working on "several ideas" for its overall Apple Vision product line and its future intentions. Currently, it is expected that an updated Apple Vision Pro will be the first, ahead of a rumored cheaper "Apple Vision" headset.

The next Apple Vision Pro would likely sport an M5 processor and other internal changes, but would otherwise be very similar to the existing model. It's expected to arrive in late 2025, reports Bloomberg, or the spring of 2026.
