Growth of Extremely Preterm Survivors From Birth to 18 Years of Age Compared With Term Controls

Children born at very low birth weights have significant catch-up weight gain but differences in height remain. Their BMI, however, tends not to be higher than expected. Data are lacking regarding representative cohorts, defined by gestation and compared with contemporaneous controls.

In a geographic cohort of extremely preterm participants followed until age 18, compared with term controls, weight differences diminish over time, and height differences persist. BMI at age 18 is similar. Height at age 2 is a better predictor of final height than midparental height. (Read the full article)

Mental Health of Extremely Low Birth Weight Survivors in Their 30s

Little is known about the mental health of extremely low birth weight survivors in their 30s. It is also unclear whether being born small for gestational age or being exposed to antenatal corticosteroids increases risk in this group.

Those born small for gestational age are at higher risk, but those exposed to antenatal corticosteroids are at the greatest risk of all. (Read the full article)

What It Truly Means to ‘Believe Survivors’

Photo Illustration by Lyne Lucien/The Daily Beast/Getty

Two years ago, the voices of survivors of sexual harassment and assault launched an unprecedented movement the world over, using Tarana Burke’s MeToo framework. That one moment was a spark into the unknown, but the movement itself was no happy accident. It was built to fuel a reclamation of power for those who had been silenced for too long, a laborious undertaking by activists, advocates, and organizations including mine—the National Women’s Law Center, which also houses and administers the TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund.

Since then, the #MeToo movement has enabled considerable progress, including making space for more and more people who have claims of sexual misconduct to come forward. People like Tara Reade.

But despite this dramatic cultural awakening, our institutions and systems are just beginning to stir. The lack of necessary legal and policy changes both in our government and in our workplaces, schools, houses of worship, and otherwise have created a world that very imperfectly serves the needs of survivors. Every domestic worker who is entirely unprotected by our federal and most state civil rights statutes, and every person who is classified as an independent contractor and left out of civil rights protections, have proven that our work must take on the reform and re-envisioning of the very systems that excluded them in the first place.

After Ajay Devgn, now Aamir Khan and Shahid Kapoor urge coronavirus survivors to donate blood

Aamir Khan has urged those who have recovered from the virus to donate blood. He shared a BMC poster, which read, "The patients have antibodies that protect against COVID-19. They can donate blood and their plasma can be used to save patients who are severely affected (sic)."

“Patients who have recovered from COVID-19 have antibodies that protect against the virus. They can donate blood and their plasma can be used to save patients with severe COVID-19. Patients may be eligible to donate plasma 4 weeks after Complete recovery, but it they have had negative swab tests then they maybe able to donate even sooner,” the poster read.

Shahid Kapoor too argued the coronavirus recovered patients to donate blood by sharing the poster.

Before this, Ajay Devgn too had appealed recovered Covid-19 patients to donate their plasma. Taking to Twitter, Ajay had written, “If you’ve recovered from COVID19, you are a Corona warrior. We need an army of such warriors to overcome this invisible enemy. Your blood contains the bullets that can kill the virus. Please donate your blood, so others, especially the serious ones can recover. Sign up now.”

On the work front, Aamir will be next seen in Laal Singh Chaddha which is a remake of Forrest Gump (1994). He is paired opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan in the film. Laal Singh Chaddha marks the return of the pair after a decade. Before this, they were last seen together in 3 Idiots. The film is set to release in December 2020.

On the other hand, Shahid Kapoor will be next seen in Jersey, a remake of a Telugu film of the same name and tells the tale of a failed cricketer, who tries to make a comeback to the Indian cricket team to win a team jersey to fulfil his son's desire.
