Resident Foreigners: A Philosophy of Migration

From the shores of Europe to the Mexican-US border, mass migration is one of the most pressing issues we face today. Yet at the same time, calls to defend national sovereignty are becoming ever more vitriolic, with those fleeing war, persecution, and famine vilified as a threat to our security as well as our social and economic order.

In this book, written amidst the dark resurgence of appeals to defend ‘blood and soil’, Donatella Di Cesare challenges

The assemble, grow and lift-off (AGLO) strategy to construct complex gold nanostructures with pre-designed morphologies

Chem. Sci., 2020, Advance Article
DOI: 10.1039/D0SC00553C, Edge Article
Open Access
Xin Luo, Christophe Lachance-Brais, Amy Bantle, Hanadi F. Sleiman
The AGLO strategy generates complex gold nanostructures with user-designed morphologies in solution, using only a simple 2D DNA origami sheet as a versatile transient template. The products are robust and stable as standalone gold nanostructures.

Topology Optimization Design of Heterogeneous Materials and Structures

This book pursues optimal design from the perspective of mechanical properties and resistance to failure caused by cracks and fatigue. The book abandons the scale separation hypothesis and takes up phase-field modeling, which is at the cutting edge of research and is of high industrial and practical relevance. Part 1 starts by testing the limits of the homogenization-based approach when the size of the representative volume element is non-negligible

Legal Research Reports: Powers of the Mexican Federal Police with Foreign Country Comparisons

The Law Library of Congress is proud to present the report,  Powers of the Mexican Federal Police with Foreign Country Comparisons.

After discussing Mexico’s historical and current policing structure, this report then examines the structure of police forces in selected other countries. The main criteria for the inclusion of other countries was the functional and geographic divergence of law enforcement duties across various jurisdictional levels. The list of countries included is not intended to be exhaustive.

This report is one of many prepared by the Law Library of Congress. Visit the Comprehensive Index of Legal Reports page for a complete listing of reports and the Current Legal Topics page for our highlighted and newer reports.

Legal Research Reports: Regulation of Foreign Involvement in Elections

The Law Library of Congress is proud to present the report, Regulation of Foreign Involvement in Elections.

This report includes surveys of 13 major democratic foreign jurisdictions on laws and policies addressing foreign involvement in elections. Reports of foreign interference in recent elections in the United States and elsewhere have prompted responses in several countries. For example, Australia, Canada, France, and South Africa have new laws in 2018 addressing political contributions, and most of the other countries surveyed in this report similarly have laws prohibiting foreign donations.

This report is one of many prepared by the Law Library of Congress. Visit the Comprehensive Index of Legal Reports page for a complete listing of reports and the Current Legal Topics page for our highlighted and newer reports.
