Both direct animal contact and indirect contact with animal habitats can lead to human Salmonella infections.This is the first reported outbreak of human Salmonella infections associated with African dwarf frogs, particularly among young children. Parents should be aware of the risk of Salmonella infections from both direct and indirect animal contact. Pediatricians should regularly inquire about animal contact and advise families about risks.
