Penn State Berks will welcome Piscataway Nation singers and dancers to honor and celebrate Indigenous and Native American Heritage Month. The event is free and open to the public and will take place on Monday, Nov. 4, at 12:15 p.m. in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium.

Prospective students and their families are invited to tour Penn State Berks at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, with Lion Ambassador student tour guides.

How do you translate what you learned in a semester-long course to a community celebration for an audience ranging in age from kindergarteners to senior citizens? That was the challenge to Penn State Berks students in the “Taylor Swift, Gender and Communication” course, and they rose to the occasion.

Maria Turkson, associate teaching professor of psychology at Penn State Harrisburg, will lead a panel of experts in a discussion about domestic violence prevention on Friday, Oct. 25. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Thaddeus Stevens College, a two-year trade and technology-focused college, has recently expanded its articulation agreement with Penn State Harrisburg. Students completing their studies at Thaddeus Stevens College can transfer a variety of general education credits toward receiving a bachelor of science degree in human development and family studies from Penn State Harrisburg.

The Office of the Registrar and the Lambert Undergraduate Advising Center at Penn State Harrisburg will present “Schweek” scheduling week to assist students in scheduling their courses for spring 2025.

Retired Master Sgt. Gary Barb, campus technology officer at Penn State Harrisburg, is a veteran of both the U.S. Navy, which he served from 1989 to 1993, and the Pennsylvania Air National Guard, which he served from 1994 to 2012. His daughter, Jessica Barb, is a communications major at Penn State Harrisburg, where she participates in the Army ROTC program, and serves in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.

Jack Saint Clair will bring his 17-piece jazz orchestra to Penn State Abington for a free concert at 7 p.m. Nov. 13 in Sutherland Auditorium.

Penn State Laureate Michele Dunleavy, professor of dance at the University Park campus, will continue her tour of the Commonwealth Campuses with a visit to Penn State Abington on Nov. 11. She will present “Improvising a Life” at 12:15 p.m. in 9 Sutherland Auditorium with musician Jennifer Peacock.

Penn State Harrisburg's women's soccer team won the 2024 United East Championship in a double-overtime draw that ended with a 4-3 penalty kick victory over St. Mary's College of Maryland on Nov. 9.

One is a retired high school teacher from Leesport. Another is an insurance professional and mother of two from Harrisburg. The third is a retired dentist who lives near State College. They’ve never met but share common bonds: All suffer from atrial fibrillation, or AFib, which is caused by an irregular and often rapid heartbeat in the upper chambers of the heart. This summer, the trio were among the first patients to undergo a newly approved heart ablation procedure at Penn State Health hospitals.

Members of Penn State Health Life Lion LLC were honored at a recent event for their crucial role in a cardiac arrest save that tested Cumberland County’s innovative Avive 4-Minute City initiative, a program designed to improve response times for cardiac emergencies.

Veterans face unique health challenges, and Penn State Health is committed to providing care respecting their experiences. Veterans/employees Mark and Julie Chesney advocate for awareness of those health needs.

Attendees were invited to read or perform their own work or music or share a favorite piece of poetry or prose. The event began with a reading by English professors Todd Davis and Erin Murphy.

A poetry reading by Mike Simms will take place from 12:05 to 1:20 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14, in the Titelman Study of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts at Penn State Altoona. Simms is a poet, novelist, essayist, political activist, editor and publisher.

Penn State Altoona’s Ivyside Dance Ensemble will present its fall 2024 performance at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14-15 in the Wolf Kuhn Theatre of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts. The performance will consist of seven dances from director KT Huckabee, choreographer and instructor Jaye Mackinson, and returning guest choreographer Ana Rossi-Lanzendorfer.

Patricia Jabbeh Wesley, professor of English at Penn State Altoona, will be featured in the 55th annual Poetry International Festival in the Netherlands. The event will take place June 12 through 15, 2025.

Penn State Altoona faculty members Brian Onishi, associate professor of philosophy, and Jeff Stoyanoff, assistant professor of English and women's, gender, and sexuality studies, released a new episode of their podcast, “Horror Joy,” titled “Appalachian Folk Horror: ‘The Blair Witch Project’ and ‘Old Gods of Appalachia.’”

Brian Black’s newest book, “Ike’s Road Trip: How Eisenhower’s 1919 Convoy Paved the Way for the Roads We Travel,” has received a full review by Mark Yost for the Wall Street Journal.

World Kindness Day is Wednesday, Nov. 13, but at Penn State Altoona, we are celebrating all week. Events include a friendship-themed Taco Tuesday, sweet treats, and displays of affirmations on Kindness Trees throughout campus.

Penn State Altoona student-athlete Eugene Heyman, of Boiling Springs, was selected as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s Men’s Swimmer of the Week on Monday, Nov. 11, when the league office announced its weekly awards. Heyman had two individual first-place finishes and also was part of a relay first place in the Lions’ sweep of conference opponents Alfred State College and Pitt-Bradford.

New Student Orientation (NSO) happens each summer to prepare accepted students for the fall semester. The first of several NSO sessions at Penn State York will take place on June 12.

A team of Penn State researchers has been selected to lead a three-year, $8,552,388 multi-institution project funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to identify cognitive threats in mixed-reality systems as part of the Intrinsic Cognitive Security program.

Penn State Behrend will hold its annual Penn State Day admissions open house for prospective students from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 12.

The new Glenhill Gardens at Penn State Behrend preserves the original footprint of the Behrend family pool while creating a new, community-focused gathering space in the historic core of the Behrend campus.

A $6.5 million state grant has positioned Penn State Behrend to begin construction of the Center for Manufacturing Competitiveness, an industry-facing research facility and the centerpiece of the college's Project RESOLVE.

Sixteen recent graduates were selected by the Penn State Alumni Association as Young Alumni Ambassadors for the 2024-25 academic year. August 2024, December 2024 and May 2025 graduates are encouraged to apply for the 2025-26 class of ambassadors when applications become available.

Dr. Elizabeth Zona will present “Beyond the Buzz: Understanding Alcohol’s Impact on Students” at 6 p.m. Oct. 16 in the Penn State Beaver Auditorium. Zona, a 2002 Penn State graduate, is a double board-certified physician, specializing in both anesthesiologist and addiction medicine. Her appearance is part of an ongoing program funded through the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board’s Reducing Underage Drinking and Dangerous Drinking Grant.

It’s year nine of Lion’s Den, a "Shark Tank"-style student idea pitching competition, at Penn State Beaver. This year students are invited to enter ideas for starting a business.

The Penn State Extension office in Beaver County has relocated to Penn State Beaver campus in Monaca from its previous location on Third Street in Beaver. An open house for the public will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Nov. 18.

A new type of eco-friendly glass developed by researchers at Penn State offers higher crack resistance, potentially allowing for thinner, lighter and more sustainable products. “LionGlass” will be the subject of PSAA Presents: EMS Showcase, an event on Nov. 8 hosted by the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences in partnership with the Penn State Alumni Association.

Mining expert Barbara Arnold, professor of practice in mining engineering, joined a panel of experts to discuss how the United States will need to make dramatic advances to increase its technical- and skilled-labor workforce to power its green energy future and to become less reliant on foreign nations for securing materials used in both everyday devices and critical national security applications.

Penn State will be sending its second delegation of students and faculty to COP29, the United Nations’ annual climate meeting, which will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, in November.

Second-year student Morgan Dawkins and fifth-year student Olivia DiPrinzio spoke to the Board of Trustees about their experiences with the Schreyer Honors College.
