Touch-Free Car Wash: An Innovative Approach To Car Cleaning

If you own a car and want to keep it clean, you should consider a touch-free car wash. This is a convenient, efficient, and effecting method for keeping cars clean. Keep reading to learn how touch-free car washes work and the benefits this offers you.

Understanding the Touch-Free Car Wash Process

A touch-free car wash uses high pressure water and cleaning solutions to wash and rinse the car without having any physical contact. The touch-free car wash process involves several stages. It begins with the application of a pre-soak detergent designed to break down dirt and grime on the car's surface. Following this, a high pressure water jet rinses the soap and the loosened dirt away. Some systems also include an undercarriage wash and a spot free rinse to ensure a comprehensive clean.

Advantages of Touch-Free Car Washes

Touch-free car washes offer several advantages over traditional car washes. The most significant benefit is the lack of physical contact. This eliminates the risk of scratches that can occur with brushes and cloths. This method also efficiently cleans hard to reach areas, including the undercarriage and wheel wells.

In addition, the speed and convenience of touch-free car washes make them a favorite among drivers. These systems often allow you to stay in the vehicle while the wash occurs, and the entire process can be completed in just a few minutes.

Environmental Considerations

Touch-free car washes are also more environmentally friendly compared to home washing. These facilities often recycle water and use biodegradable soaps. This significantly reduces water usage and prevents harmful chemicals from entering waterways.

Limitations of Touch-Free Car Washes

Despite their many benefits, touch-free car washes may not be the best option for heavily soiled vehicles. The high pressure water jets might not fully remove debris. In these cases, a hand wash or a traditional car wash may be more effective.

Maintaining Your Car Post Wash

After a touch-free car wash, it is a good idea to dry your car to prevent water spots and streaks. Many touch-free car washes include a drying phase in their process, but you might want to consider additional drying at home. Regular waxing after washing can also help to keep your car's finish shiny and protected.

With proper after wash care, touch-free car washes can play a key role in maintaining your vehicle's aesthetic and value. Find an automatic car wash in your area today.

Students’ Attention when Using Touchscreens and Pen Tablets in a Mathematics Classroom

Aim/Purpose: The present study investigated and compared students’ attention in terms of time-on-task and number of distractors between using a touchscreen and a pen tablet in mathematical problem-solving activities with virtual manipulatives. Background: Although there is an increasing use of these input devices in educational practice, little research has focused on assessing student attention while using touchscreens or pen tablets in a mathematics classroom. Methodology: A qualitative exploration was conducted in a public elementary school in New Taipei, Taiwan. Six fifth-grade students participated in the activities. Video recordings of the activities and the students’ actions were analyzed. Findings: The results showed that students in the activity using touchscreens maintained greater attention and, thus, had more time-on-task and fewer distractors than those in the activity using pen tablets. Recommendations for Practitioners: School teachers could employ touchscreens in mathematics classrooms to support activities that focus on students’ manipulations in relation to the attention paid to the learning content. Recommendation for Researchers: The findings enhance our understanding of the input devices used in educational practice and provide a basis for further research. Impact on Society: The findings may also shed light on the human-technology interaction process involved in using pen and touch technology conditions. Future Research: Activities similar to those reported here should be conducted using more participants. In addition, it is important to understand how students with different levels of mathematics achievement use the devices in the activities.

Hyundai acknowledges touchscreen woes, brings back physical controls

HYUNDAI’S recent acknowledgement of the challenges with touchscreens in vehicles highlights a growing trend that some are calling the “Tesla Effect.” Following in Tesla’s footsteps, many automakers have phased out traditional physical controls for digital interfaces on touchscreens, aiming to create sleek, tech-centric cabins. However, Hyundai has found that American buyers aren’t entirely on board with the touchscreen-only setup.

According to HDNA Vice President Ha Hak-soo, Hyundai’s experience with touchscreen-based controls revealed that drivers often feel frustrated when trying to quickly adjust settings on the go, especially when physical dials or buttons could have made adjustments more straightforward. Hyundai’s internal testing with focus groups found that drivers found it stressful to control certain functions on a touchscreen when needing immediate responsiveness.

Touchscreens undoubtedly allow designers more flexibility to achieve minimalist interiors and offer a greater range of functions than physical controls alone. But when it comes to real-world driving, bumping along a rough road can make it challenging to find and tap digital controls accurately. A simple adjustment that could once be handled by feel now demands more focus, taking the driver’s attention off the road.

In response, Hyundai has started reintroducing physical controls on some models, including the facelifted Ioniq 5. While Hyundai’s North American team believes driver attitudes might shift once advanced driver-assistance systems become more common, allowing drivers to focus less on the road, for now, it seems Hyundai is listening to the call for a balance between digital and physical controls.

The Bouchout Declaration: A commitment to open science for better management of nature

The Bouchout Declaration targets the need for data to be openly accessible, so that scientists can use the information for new types of research and to provide better advice. Currently, data may be prevented from becoming open or usable because of copyright оr concerns of institutions that hold the data, or because it is not in a form that can be easily managed by computers. The Declaration identifies mechanisms to structure open data so that they can be drawn together, queried and analysed on a much larger scale than was previously possible.

The Bouchout Declaration allows the community to demonstrate its support for data to be openly available. It extends previous efforts, like the Berlin Declaration, to the biodiversity sciences. The objective is to promote free and open access to data and information about biodiversity by people and computers. This will help to bring about an inclusive and shared knowledge management infrastructure that will inform our decisions so that we respond more effectively to the challenges of the present and future.

"Biodiversity research is painstakingly built up from the study of billions of specimens over hundreds of years from every region of the Earth. We are now in a position to share this hard-won knowledge freely with everyone who wishes to read, extend, interconnect, or apply it. We should do so as soon as humanly possible. If we do, we will not only make biodiversity research more accessible, discoverable, retrievable, and useful. We will make it more useful for the critical purpose of preserving biodiversity itself," comments Peter Suber from the Harvard Open Access Project on the significance of the declaration.

International initiatives like the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) support science and society by gathering and helping scientists to analyse knowledge acquired by past generations and from streams new observations and technologies. The GBIF's Executive Secretary Donald Hobern commented: "This knowledge cannot be recreated and needs to be used and reinterpreted over time. We need to manage it as a precious resource of value to the whole human race. This is why Open Biodiversity Knowledge Management matters."

The Bouchout Declaration emerged from the pro-iBiosphere project (a Coordination and Support Action funded through the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) under Grant Agreement №312848 ) as a reaction to the need of better access to biodiversity information. The inaugural ceremony of the Bouchout Declaration (including official launch of the website) will take place on the 12th of June 2014 during the final event of the project.

"Museum collections around the world hold invaluable biodiversity information that are often hidden in dark rooms. Digitalizing and providing free and open access to these resources through an Open Biodiversity Knowledge Management System in Europe is crucial for the advancement of biodiversity research and better management of nature for a sustainable future. We are happy to be one of the first institutions which endorsed the Declaration" concluded Prof. Johannes Vogel, Director General of the Museum für Naturkunde, Berlin.

Universities, research institutions, funding agencies, foundations, publishers, libraries, museums, archives, learned societies, professional associations and individuals who share the vision of the Bouchout Declaration are invited to join the signatories. If you wish to join the list of signatories or would like to receive additional information please email bouchout@plazi.org.

Among the initial signatories are some of the world's leading natural history museums, botanical gardens, and scientific networks.
