Mexico’s IPC declined 194 points or 0.5% to 36,792, as unemployment data in the US and a drop in oil prices weighed on sentiment. On Thursday, the annual inflation rate in Mexico dropped to 2.15% in April 2020 from 3.25% in the previous month, leaving room for further monetary easing. Meanwhile, the Mexican Ministry of Health reported yesterday 1,609 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 infections and 197 additional fatalities, bringing the total in the country to 27,634 cases and 2,704 deaths. On the corporate side, GFNORTE was authorized by the National Bonding and Insurance Commission (CNSF) and by the antitrust authority (Cofece) to acquire the entire life annuity portfolio of Pensiones SURA worth around P$14 billion.
