Mauritius is among one of the very first countries where government has taken keen interest to protect children and youngsters on the Internet. In this context, a Child Online Safety Action Plan was developed by the National Computer Board (NCB) and endorsed by the cabinet in 2009. Following the aproval of the action plan, number of activities have been started on Child Online Safety since 2009 including organisation of the Safer Internet Day. This year is the 6th edition of Safer Internet Day which will be celebrated in Mauritius. On this occasion, CERT-MU, a division of the National Computer Board is organising several activities. The activities are as follows: A half day workshop with theme "Let's create a better Internet together" in collaboration with the Ministry of Technology, Communication and Innovation and the Ministry of Education and Human Resources, Tertiary Education and Scientific Research. The proposed workshop is targeted towards State and Private secondary school students to sensitise them on the impact of threats and consequences that improper use of the Internet may have on the youth. Awareness sessions on “Internet Safety” will be carried out for secondary school students (State and Private) in all four school zones of the country. These sessions will highlight issues like sexting, sextortion, cyber bullying, online predators and identity theft etc. Organisation of awareness sessions on “Dangers of the Internet” for secondary school teachers (State and Private) in all four school zones during the school holidays. Trainings on the Dangers of the Internet and how to help youngsters choose a better way of socialising in the virtual world will be organised for the teachers of secondary schools. Awareness sessions for Parents, Senior Citizens and House Wives on "Secure Usage of Internet". Parents, Grandparents and House Wives need to be aware of the dangers on the Internet and how to protect their kids online. An awareness session will be organised to address this issue with parents, in collaboration with the PTA of secondary schools. 1 Cyber Security Drill 2016 By cert-mu.govmu.org Published On :: Mon, 06 Nov 2017 12:21:39 GMT The Computer Emergency Response Team of Mauritius (CERT-MU) in collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) organised the ITU ALERT Cyber Security Drill (Applied Learning for Emergency Response Teams), a five-day regional forum on cybersecurity for the Africa Region at Le Meridien Hotel from the 4th-8th April. It was the third time that this event was held in Africa and a first for Mauritius. The first day was dedicated to a series of workshops on current cybersecurity issues, followed by two days of cyber drill exercises structured around various scenarios involving the most common types of cyberattacks while the sharing sessions provided a platform for cooperation and discussions on cybersecurity and the last two days were dedicated to capacity building session. The cyberdrill exercises were centered on developing threat intelligence capability, malware reengineering and attack scenarios. On the first day there were around 120 participants ranging from IT professionals, system administrators, law enforcement officers, IT security professionals and international delegates. The cyberdrill and workshops were attended by around fifty delegates from all over Africa including Mauritius. The cyberdrill was officially opened by the Honourable Etienne Sinatambou, Minister of Technology, Communication and Innovation. Full Article

This event was organised in collaboration with the Forum of Incident Response & Security Teams (FIRST), USA and supported by our stakeholders namely Symantec, Secure Services (Mauritius) Ltd, ORACLE & USERTECH Solutions. The event was conducted over three days which comprised of a Cybersecurity conference on the 1st day and two training programmes on the other 2 days. The 2 training programmes that were conducted were Practical Dynamic Analysis of Modern Malware with Free Tools and Introduction & Set-up of CSIRT. The event was officially opened by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Technology, Communication & Innovation, Mrs. Rooba Yanembal Moorghen. Some 90 participants were present during the Cybersecurity conference and 60 IT Professionals have attended both training programmes. Full Article
