yet Kartik Aaryan claims Love Aaj Kal is 'best performance of my career yet' By www.mid-day.com Published On :: 8 May 2020 09:18:30 GMT Actor Kartik Aaryan said playing two characters in one movie would seem scary, but if the transition from Veer to Raghu in "Love Aaj Kal" was smooth he credits the film's director Imtiaz Ali for it. The actor feels Ali brings out great performances from actors in his movies. Kartik took to Instagram and shared a still from "Love Aaj Kal", and also a picture of himself along with Ali. Alongside the image he wrote: "When you first dream of being in films, you act in front of the mirror and nail it every time, and the world of movies seems magical.?Then you get a movie. You see the camera and are unnerved. It's bigger than the suitcase you brought to Mumbai. The bright lights seem to be scolding you for not landing on a one inch tape mark and wasting everyones time." "The first few years become about trying not to look nervous.?Then you get an Imtiaz Ali movie. The moment he narrates the story, you are pulled into a dream. I don't even remember seeing the camera on his set, he‘d always be standing wherever I looked after cut. He was never at the monitor, he was by my side. The lights on Imtiaz Ali's set help you find those tape marks," he added. Kartik claimed he never experienced the kind of love and appreciation he got for his performance in "Love Aaj Kal". "And that too from some of my favourite filmmakers and people I most respect in the industry. How ironic that the making of this film felt most effortless. It would scare me to think of doing two characters in one movie. And here, I didn't even realise how smoothly I was being transitioned between #Veer and #Raghu," he wrote. "For an actor, there is no better environment than being In front of that mirror. Imtiaz Ali takes you there. This is the reason why so many great actors' greatest performances have been in Imtiaz Ali films," Kartik added. The actor then praised Ali and called him a "magician". "Imtiaz Ali director nahi hain, jadugar hain (Imtiaz Ali is not a director but a magician)! Thank you sir for giving me the best performance of my career yet. @imtiazaliofficial #LoveAajKal." "Love Aaj Kal" co-starring Sara Ali Khan released on Valentine's Day this year. It traced love stories of two different eras -- the first is set in the late 1980s-early nineties, and unfolds between Raghu and Leena. The other love story, set in the present time, happens between Veer and Zoe. The film is a retelling of Ali's own film of 2009 that starred Deepika Padukone and Saif Ali Khan, and was a hit. "Love Aaj Kal" 2020 fared below expectation at the box-office and was also critically panned. Catch up on all the latest entertainment news and gossip here. yet 'Jurassic Park' child star Joe Mazzello not back in franchise yet By www.mid-day.com Published On :: 29 Apr 2020 02:46:54 GMT "Jurassic Park" child star Joe Mazzello says he is not coming back to the franchise yet. Mazzello as a child essayed the role of Tim Murphy, grandson of the park founder John Hammond, in 1993's "Jurassic Park" and the 1997 sequel "The Lost World: Jurassic Park". Recently, actor Chris Pratt said that the original cast is slated to return for "Jurassic World 3". According to a source, Mazzello hasn't yet been contacted by the studio to reprise his role in the film franchise, reports pagesix.com. "I hope we get to find out someday (what happens to Tim)," Mazzello told fans during a YouTube Q&A recently after watching the movie on a live-stream together. The 36-year-old then hinted that he wasn't reprising his character, saying: "I do think about it all the time because there's so much I think that you could like do with this character." He said: "Like, he was like sort of the obvious heir to, like, John Hammond's fortune. He was the heir to Jurassic Park and, like, would this experience have turned him away from dinosaurs and make him hate dinosaurs? "I do think it would be amazing to see what happened to Tim Murphy, you know as an adult, and I don't know … there's so much you can do with that character and yeah, you never know, but maybe one day we'll be able to find out," he added. "They got to make a lot more movies, that's what I'm saying, OK? A lot more films," he added. According to the source, "millions of 'Jurassic Park' fans have been extremely upset" since Mazzello made the remarks. "This character is iconic and part of so many of the fans' lives. Joe's comments alluded that there needed to be more movies in order for his character to possibly come back. It's not up to Joe, it's up to the studio and director if they want the entire original cast or not," added the source. The film has "no set timetable to start production" amid the ongoing coronavirus shutdown. It has a tentative release date of June 11, 2021. yet The creator of 'The Awkward Yeti' was inspired by Calvin and Hobbes By www.mid-day.com Published On :: 11 Nov 2017 09:15:16 GMT Nick Seluk, the American artist behind the popular The Awkward Yeti comics, on his ingenious organ characters and more What made you pick a blue yeti as the central character?I imagine the blue yeti [Lars] as a misfit among the attractive, extroverted white yetis. He looks, acts and thinks differently than the average yeti, and for that reason, feels disconnected. To me, it was a funny way of exaggerating my own awkwardness and introversion. Nick Seluk What is the key to creating intelligent comics for kids? The key is that I don't make them for kids. I make them for adults, but I simplify the information to the extent that people of all ages can enjoy them. Why did you decide to study psychology?I have been very introspective, and psychology was an interesting way to learn about myself and others, like how we differ and relate. Much of what I learned reinforced what I already knew through observation, and gave me the confidence to use those concepts (albeit abstractly) later on in comics. Pic courtesy/theawkwardyeti.com If turned into a film, who do you think should voice Lars? There are so many great options. I imagine a sort of deep, awkward voice for Lars, perhaps a John C Reilly or Brian Posehn. What's your favourite organ character?I love Heart because it represents my desire to be myself, be weird and try new things (not always successfully). My favourite character to write for is Tongue, because the character takes impulse to a new level. A new organ character that you would want to introduce? Most organs have made an appearance at some point, but the one I still want to make into a character is the mesentery, because it's sort of a bizarre grotesque shape that would be fun. I don't know if it would make regular appearances, but I hope it will show up some day. Do you run your comics by your family for critique?I used to do that a lot, but now I usually post the comic on Twitter first. It's my smallest social media audience, so I kind of use it to test it out. If it does well enough, I share it with my larger audiences on Instagram and Facebook. Which artists inspire you?I grew up reading and gaining great inspiration from Calvin and Hobbes, The Far Side, and The Simpsons. In the past few years, I have found a lot of inspiration from artists whom I meet while travelling. Are you familiar with the works of Indian artists?I am not, but I'm excited to be at Mumbai Comic Con because what better way could there be to start learning about them? yet Mumbai CA yet to transfer Rs 50 lakh to CM relief fund By www.mid-day.com Published On :: 5 May 2020 01:54:00 GMT As the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic intensifies especially in Maharashtra, India's worst-hit state, every penny contributed can make a huge difference. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) was among the first state associations to pledge (on March 26) a Rs 50 lakh contribution to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. However, it is understood that the money has not been transferred yet due to a lack of direction regarding which fund the amount has to be deposited in. Treasurer Achrekar's emailIn an email on April 9, MCA treasurer Jagdish Achrekar had sought direction from MCA president Dr Vijay Patil and the Apex Council members to decide on whether to donate instead towards the COVID-19 relief fund set up especially for the pandemic. This dedicated relief fund was initiated a few days after the MCA decided to donate to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. "I refer to the virtual meeting dated March 26 in which the Apex Council members decided to contribute Rs 50 lakh to [the] Chief Minister relief fund. I gather that a special account for COVID-19 relief fund has been opened by the CM's office. May we transfer Rs 50 lakh to the account designated by CM office? I hereby seek your permission for the same," Achrekar wrote in his email, a copy of which is with mid-day. When asked what difference it made if the amount was transferred to either of the relief fund accounts, an MCA source said: "It is important to have clear direction as it [donation] involves technical points like tax benefits." Meanwhile, MCA's joint secretary Sanjay Naik said they are awaiting a response from the Chief Minister's office: "We have the approval of our committee. We are waiting for the CM's office to provide direction. I think it should happen in a few days." On March 28, MCA had contributed R50 lakh to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund. Selectors yet to be paidMeanwhile, it is understood that the MCA has yet to make payments to their senior and junior selectors though the season ended in March. Only senior team selector Sridhar Mandale has received his payment due to a medical emergency in his family. The chairman of the senior selection committee [Milind Rege] is supposed to receive Rs 3.5 lakh while his other colleagues in the committee are to get Rs 3 lakh each. Naik said the payments to selectors will be cleared shortly. "It will be done soon. The delay might be due to the lockdown," he said. Rajput, Kuruvilla in fray for Mumbai coach job FORMER India Test cricketers Lalchand Rajput and Abey Kuruvilla are being touted as the top contenders for the Mumbai coach's job. Rajput is currently with the Zimbabwe team while Kurvuvilla, the former junior national chief selector, is associated with IPL side Mumbai Indians and the DY Patil Sports Academy. It is learnt that former India pacer Aavishkar Salvi is also among the candidates. Catch up on all the latest sports news and updates here.
