Cotton yarn prices in north India showed mixed trends due to sluggish demand. Prices in Delhi fell by ₹2 per kg, while Ludhiana remained stable amid slow trading. Panipat saw stable recycled yarn prices but a slight increase in recycled polyester fibre costs due to higher PET bottle prices. Cotton arrivals were slow as farmers prioritised paddy sales, limiting price surges.

Cotton yarn prices in south India remained steady, with limited trading in Mumbai due to post-festival worker shortages and better but cautious activity in Tiruppur. Buyers are focusing on immediate needs, anticipating peak cotton arrivals, which may lower prices. In Gujarat, cotton prices rose due to increased demand from ginners and mills despite limited seed cotton arrivals.

In October, the US consumer price index for garments rose by 1.1 per cent month-over-month, reversing prior declines in 2023. Current clothing prices are 7.6 per cent higher than 2019 averages. Import prices for cotton-heavy apparel stabilised at $3.70/SME, still above pre-pandemic levels. Consumer confidence rose to its highest since January 2024, with spending on apparel up 1.7 per cent YoY.

Global cotton markets saw slight declines and stabilisation in recent weeks, with NY/ICE December futures trading between 67–75 cents/lb since June, now at 71 cents/lb. The global A Index dipped from 85 to 83 cents, while China's index dropped from 101 to 97 cents due to a weaker yuan. Indian and Pakistani spot prices also declined, but both rupees remained stable against the dollar.

I really like this chart! It hits all of the data visualization design best practices for me. This was published by the NYTimes in the article: Here’s How Much Hotter Than Normal This June Has Been

Here’s what I like:

• It’s time series data, so it’s visualized as a line chart

• Year-over-year data is easy to compare as overlapping lines for the same Jan-Dec time period

• No chart legend! The lines are labeled directly within your field of view in the chart

• Using the pre attentive attribute of color, 2023 is highlighted in orange and the rest are gray lines

• The chosen orange color isn’t red or green so there isn’t any implication of good or bad

• The 2022 line is a darker shade of gray, so it’s also distinguishable, but not the focus

• The x-axis labels are only every other month to minimize the text on the page

• The is one example of when a non-zero baseline is appropriate so you can see the details

Peter Scott is the Head of the Centre for New Media in the Knowledge Media Institute of the Open University. CNM protypes the application of new technologies and media to learning at all levels. Peter's current research interests range widely across knowledge and media research. Three key threads at the moment are: telepresence; streaming media systems; and agent research. He has a BA (1983) and PhD (1987) in Psychology. Before joining the Open University in 1995, Dr Scott lectured in Psychology and Cognitive Science at the University of Sheffield. He has a textbook in each of these subjects. He has managed dozens of major grants, and has a bucketful of research publications. Dr Scott is on the board of the company Corous.Com, a wholly owned subsidiary of Open University World Wide Ltd., specializing in the development of corporate education and training portals. He has acted as an Internet consultant to a range of multinational corporations. He is also the managing director of WebSymposia Ltd, an Internet multimedia webcasting company.

After studying Applied Psychology and then Cognitive Science and Intelligent Computing, Stephen Emmott went on to lecture in both Artificial Intelligence and Psychology. After two academic years he ventured into the commercial world with jobs in the emerging 'New Media' industry: Easynet, Cyberia, Netmare and finally Webmedia where he spent his last year as project manager for Which? Online. He joined King's College London as Web Editor in September 1997 and is currently exploring content management using XML. Stephen gave a talk entitled "Events Online".
