Steve Glazer Art Exhibition (November 13, 2024 9:00am)

Event Begins: Wednesday, November 13, 2024 9:00am
Location: North Campus Research Complex Building 18
Organized By: North Campus Research Complex NCRC Art Program

Steve Glazer earned his BFA in art with a concentration in ceramics from Eastern Michigan University, a master’s degree in art from Central Michigan University, and MFA in fine arts and ceramics from Indiana State University. Since 2004, Glazer has been lead faculty and head of ceramics at Henry Ford College, and former faculty of Concord College (WV) and North Dakota State University. His artwork has been exhibited throughout the country.

Throughout his adult life the art of Steve Glazer has been done as a response to his environment. From a series of shadow box type pieces containing life like ceramic fish while teaching at a Catholic woman’s college, to building 8’ tall ceramic “skyscrapers” that barely fit into the display spaces while teaching in North Dakota, where no skyscrapers exist, and then creating installations commenting on living in Appalachia while teaching in southern West Virginia. After returning home to Detroit, Glazer began his griot series, the “Motor City Griot Society” masks, the faces of the superheroes that will save Detroit, and more recently the “Motor City Griot Patrol” creatures that will protect the city of Detroit.

Episode 73: Real Time Systems with Bruce Powel Douglass

This episode is a conversation with Bruce Powel Douglass on real time systems. We started by discussing what real time software is, and explored the difference between hard and soft real time. We then looked at different scheduling strategies, and the meaning of terms like urgency and importance in the context of scheduling. Next was a discussion of typical architectural styles for real time systems and how architectures are described in this context. This led us to a discussion about the importance of modeling, formalisms and languages as well as the role of automatic code generation from those models. We then looked at how to model QoS aspects and the role of SysML for modeling real time systems. We then had a brief look at which programming languages are used these days for real time systems and the role of static analysis to determine various properties of those programs in advance. The last part of the discussion focused on some best practices for building real time systems, the challenges in distributed real time systems and how real time systems can be tested effectively.

OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina facilitates visit to National Museum for children from Zepce and Maglaj

SARAJEVO, 9 June 2016 – The OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), in co-operation with the Fojnicani-Maglaj Association, facilitated today a visit to the National Museum of BiH in Sarajevo for 50 students and teachers of Zepce’s Fra Grga Martic and Maglaj primary schools and their branch schools in Bradici and Tujnica.

The aim of the excursion, a rare opportunity for the children to visit the capital, was to promote cultural values and help build a more tolerant and cohesive society in the Maglaj and Zepce municipalities.

During their visit, the students and school principals had the opportunity to meet with Jonathan Moore, Head of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina. “We should invest more effort in creating opportunities for children to spend time with each other and learn from each other,” said Moore.

“The children visited the Museum, which is always very inspirational for our pupils. They get creative and express their impressions in the classroom through essays and art projects,” said Ivo Bilonic, Principal of Fra Grga Martic primary school from Zepce.

Osman Mujdza, Principal of Maglaj primary school, said: “Our school has had a very successful co-operation with the OSCE Mission to BiH so far. This activity enables the children not only to familiarize themselves with the cultural and historic heritage of BiH but also to forge closer ties among each other.”

Strengthening multi-ethnic co-operation and tolerance in local communities is an important part of this visit. “We want to contribute to developing a culture of peace and creating better conditions for those living in rural areas,” said Davor Supukovic, member of the Steering Board of the Fojnicani-Maglaj Association.

The visit was organized as part of the OSCE Mission’s efforts to create closer links between schools and local communities through education about the diversity of the peoples, religions and traditions of BiH as a source of respect and pride.
