Obama strong, rubber match awaits

Larry Mantle

In the second of the three Presidential debates, President Obama displayed the passion he lacked the first time around. He also made his arguments more concisely, and didn't shy away from direct engagement with Mitt Romney. Snap polls after the debate show most viewers and listeners though Obama won the debate, though the percentages weren't nearly as overwhelming as Romney's advantage last time out.

Will the President's apparent victory show up in the polls as dramatically as Romney's previous win? What will the stakes be like for next Monday's final, tie-breaking, matchup?

Strong Investor Demand Pushes Oversubscribed Private Placement Beyond Target

Source: Streetwise Reports 11/07/2024

Tectonic Metals Inc. (TSXV: TECT; OTCQB: TETOF; FSE: T15B) announced the successful closing of its private placement, which was significantly oversubscribed, raising CA$5,349,171. Read more to find out how this oversubscribed funding round exceeded expectations and what it means for Tectonic's future projects.

Tectonic Metals Inc. (TSXV: TECT; OTCQB: TETOF; FSE: T15B) announced the successful closing of its private placement, which was significantly oversubscribed, raising CA$5,349,171. This amount surpassed the company's initial target. Initially announced on October 4, 2024, this extension raised an additional CA$1,691,712 through the issuance of 28,195,200 units priced at CA$0.06 per unit. This total combined the funds from the second tranche with those from the initial tranche and previous offering rounds.

Each unit in the placement includes one common share and one-half of a common share purchase warrant, with each full warrant exercisable at CA$0.10 until two years from the offering's close. LIFE units from the offering are freely tradeable, while non-LIFE units are subject to a four-month hold period. In this latest tranche, CA$591,708 was generated through LIFE units, with 9,861,800 common shares and 4,930,900 warrants issued, while HOLD units contributed CA$1,100,004, resulting in the issuance of 18,333,400 common shares and 9,166,700 warrants.

Finder's fees in cash totaling CA$98,143 were paid to Canaccord Genuity Corp., Haywood Securities Inc., Ventum Financial Corp., Roche Securities Ltd., Gerhard Merkel, and Black Oak Ventures Ltd. Additionally, Tectonic issued 1,635,714 non-transferable common share purchase warrants to these finders, each exercisable at CA$0.10 until November 1, 2026. The cumulative finder's fees for both the extended and initial offerings amount to CA$226,029, with 3,767,153 finder's warrants issued. This private placement was approved by the TSX Venture Exchange (TSXV).

Why Gold?

On October 29, Kitco Media's Gary Wagner reported on gold nearing US$2,800, attributing this surge to a mix of "geopolitical conflicts, Federal Reserve interest rate normalization, and strong demand from global central banks." This combination, which Wagner referred to as a "perfect storm," has pushed gold prices up by approximately 35% this year. Emerging market central banks have notably increased their gold reserves as part of a strategic shift away from the U.S. dollar, adding further support to the metal's robust price performance.

Further insights from LiveMint on October 30 revealed a strong performance in the gold sector, with MCX gold rates surging in India. This was partly fueled by cultural factors and a rise in retail demand. Chintan Mehta, CEO of Abans Holdings, emphasized gold's safe-haven appeal, stating, "Gold stands out in times of uncertainty . . . a complete safe-haven unlike silver." Despite potential near-term dips, Mehta suggested that such declines would present valuable buying opportunities amid continued demand for gold.

In a November 4 report, Egon von Greyerz, founder of VON GREYERZ AG, highlighted the consistent historical role of gold as a protective asset. He took particular note of gold's rise in times of financial instability. He observed, "Gold doesn't lie…an ounce of gold in 1923 was worth 87 trillion Marks," underscoring gold's resilience during currency devaluations. He further anticipated that gold's journey was "only starting now," driven by the ongoing devaluation of fiat currencies.

Tectonic's Catalysts

The capital raised through Tectonic's private placement aims to support exploration and development at the company's Flat Gold Project in Alaska, a promising district-scale opportunity for open-pit heap leach gold mining. As outlined in the company's October 2024 investor update, Tectonic has prioritized "economic mine" criteria, highlighting heap leach processing potential, high gold recovery rates, and infrastructure access through on-site airstrips and nearby river barge routes, which reduce logistical costs.

The company's exploration strategy benefits from strong partnerships and technical expertise, particularly its milestone partnership with Doyon Limited, Alaska's largest private landholder, and Crescat Capital, which together hold significant ownership in Tectonic. Additionally, Tectonic's technical team has established a 100% drill success rate at the Chicken Mountain target, identifying zones of gold mineralization and potential higher-grade starter pits. According to Tectonic's October 2024 presentation, the company's "disciplined, upfront de-risking strategy" aims to secure long-term value and sustainable operational progress at the Flat Gold Project.

Analysts Talk Tectonic

*Technical analyst Clive Maund strongly endorsed Tectonic Metals Inc., rating it an "Immediate Strong Buy" on October 4. Maund emphasized the potential for "spectacular gains" as Tectonic's stock showed clear signs of a bullish reversal. He noted a "giant Double Bottom base pattern," indicating a rally from lows, supported by an "exceptionally positive volume pattern" and a strengthening Accumulation line, both bullish signals. [OWNERSHIP_CHART-10225]

Maund also highlighted Tectonic's Flat Project, noting its substantial scale and favorable mining conditions, especially within the Chicken Mountain Intrusion, where all 74 drill holes intersected gold mineralization, hinting at a "big resource." Additionally, Maund remarked on Tectonic's strategic partnerships. These include Doyon Ltd., which holds nearly 10% of the company's stock, underscoring strong local support and shareholder stability. These factors contributed to his confidence in the stock's growth potential, concluding that the current price represented a strong entry point.

Ownership and Share Structure

Institutions hold around 32.3%. Doyon Ltd has 9.9% and Crescat Capital has 22.3%. 15% of Tectonic is held by insiders and other institutions. The rest is retail.

Tectonic has a market cap of US$16.92 Million with 342.61 Million Free Float Shares. Their 52-week range is US$0.045 - 0.17

Turkiye has given strongest response to Israel’s atrocities: President Erdogan

Without doubt, Turkiye gave the strongest response to Israel’s atrocities in Palestine through such steps as halting trade, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday.

Ankara suspended all trade with Israel in May, citing a worsening humanitarian tragedy in Gaza, where Israel has killed more than 43,000 Palestinians since last October.

“As long as arms shipments continue, Israel will be more aggressive, as every day that Israel is not stopped, the situation in Palestine and Lebanon worsens,” Erdogan told reporters on his return flight from visits to Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan.

One of the concrete steps that can be taken against Israel’s attacks is to work for recognition of the state of Palestine, he underscored, adding: “Without a two-state solution, peace and stability will not come to the region.”

“Trade restrictions and sanctions on Israel are another form of struggle. Active diplomacy to corner Israel in all areas and boost diplomatic pressure is also crucial. We’re in the middle of a great test of humanity,” the president said.

“Passing this test is only possible by being part of the humanitarian alliance. Otherwise, history will judge both those who stood by Israel and those who remained silent in the face of oppression.”

Erdogan also said Ankara’s initiative at the UN to prevent the shipment of weapons and ammunition to Israel has been supported by 52 countries and two international organizations.

“We recently sent a letter on this initiative to the president of the UN General Assembly, the president of the Security Council, and the UN secretary-general. At the (joint Arab-Muslim) summit in Riyadh, a decision was made to invite all organizations and Arab League members to sign our letter. Our country’s steps to halt the massacre and its humanitarian aid efforts were praised,” he added.

The Turkish president also highlighted that he had the opportunity to hold bilateral meetings during the summit, including with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, adding that they had a fruitful meeting.

Emphasizing that he also held bilateral meetings in Baku, Azerbaijan, during the COP29 UN Climate Change Conference, Erdogan said that these meetings included discussions of bilateral ties and regional developments.

‘Climate is one of the most critical issues facing world’

On Turkiye’s zero emissions target for 2053, Erdogan said: “The climate issue is one of the most critical issues facing the world. Just as we care about wars, conflicts, and migration, we approach this issue with the same seriousness.”

“Turkiye is persistently discussing what measures we can take with the relevant ministries. We have taken, are taking, and will continue to take measures to use the world’s limited resources most efficiently and to elevate the civilization we have developed over centuries to a much higher level.

“Turkiye cares about this issue and is making every effort to do our part. However, finding a fundamental and lasting solution to this issue is not possible with the efforts of just us or a few countries together.”

He called for collective action to shoulder the burden of climate-related efforts.

“If some countries fully engage in the fight against climate change while others, driven by greed, ignore necessary measures or even increase pollution, we cannot overcome this problem,” warned Erdogan.

President Erdogan added that the importance of the Zero Waste initiative, spearheaded by Turkiye, is gaining more recognition every day and that efforts are being made to spread it and turn it into a way of life.

The initiative, which started in 2017 under First Lady Emine Erdogan’s leadership, aims to raise awareness of the importance of waste elimination in addressing climate change.

Hope ties with US move to different track under Trump

On the US’ incoming administration, Erdogan voiced hope that Donald Trump’s taking office in January will start to put ties between Ankara and Washington on a different track.

“Undoubtedly, there are always opportunities between the two countries. Our basic expectation is to assess these opportunities and take steps that will benefit both countries,” he said.

“The Trump administration views the economy as one of its main priorities. Turkiye, with its strategic geographical location and young population, is a country that offers investment opportunities.

“We can create new opportunities to boost the trade volume and encourage investments between the two countries. Particularly in energy, infrastructure, and technology, we can develop new collaborations,” he underlined.

Erdogan also expressed hope that President-elect Trump would take different steps for the region.

Asked about potential future meetings with US billionaire Elon Musk, one of Trump’s biggest supporters, Erdogan said: “The technological strides Turkiye is making are drawing attention worldwide. Technology is not an area where you can advance alone; you need collaboration. If cooperation opportunities arise in this field, steps can be taken with Musk.”

Possible normalization between Turkiye, Syria

Speaking of a possible reconciliation with Syria, Erdogan said Turkiye has reached out for normalization, expressing its belief that it would open the door to peace and stability in Syrian territories.

Cross-border operations are always in the cards for the country’s security, he said, expressing readiness to launch them anytime the country feels threatened.

Turkiye has launched several cross-border operations in recent years, in both northern Syria and northern Iraq, targeting terrorists who hide out there and destabilize the border or plot attacks on Turkish soil.

Reiterating Turkiye’s commitment to fighting terrorism while respecting Syria’s territorial integrity, Erdogan said that the presence of terrorist groups in northern Syria, notably the PKK, the PYD and the YPG, also poses a threat to its territorial integrity, adding that the Syrian government, well aware of this, must take steps to create a new climate in the country.

Erdogan also said the “threat of Israel,” right next to Syria, is no fairy tale, warning that the fire in the surrounding areas can quickly spread in the unstable lands.

In its 40-year terror campaign against Turkiye, the PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkiye, the US, and the EU — has been responsible for the deaths of over 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants. The YPG is PKK’s Syrian offshoot.

In northern Syria, Ankara has launched a trio of successful anti-terror operations since 2016 to prevent the formation of a terror corridor and enable the peaceful settlement of residents: Euphrates Shield (2016), Olive Branch (2018), and Peace Spring (2019).

Wikipedia: Martin Luther (10 November 1483 - 18 February 1546) -- A German priest, professor of theology and iconic figure of the Protestant Reformation - He strongly disputed the claim that freedom from God's punishment for sin could be purchased wit

Luther taught that salvation is not earned by good deeds but received only as a free gift of God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ as redeemer from sin. His theology challenged the authority of the Pope of the Roman Catholic Church by teaching that the Bible is the only source of divinely revealed knowledge and opposed sacerdotalism by considering all baptized Christians to be a holy priesthood. Those who identify with Luther's teachings are called Lutherans. -- His (1522 A.D.) translation of the Bible into the language of the people (instead of Latin) made it more accessible, causing a tremendous impact on the church and on German culture. It fostered the development of a standard version of the German language, added several principles to the art of translation, and influenced the translation into English of the King James Bible. His hymns influenced the development of singing in churches. His marriage to Katharina von Bora set a model for the practice of clerical marriage, allowing Protestant priests to marry. -- In his later years, while suffering from several illnesses and deteriorating health, Luther became increasingly antisemitic, writing that Jewish homes should be destroyed, their synagogues burned, money confiscated and liberty curtailed. These statements have contributed to his controversial status.

Clement of Alexandria (150-211 A.D.) - Clement of Alexandria was one of the major Greek-speaking thinkers of the early church - He came from a pagan background at Athens and his Christian theology was strongly influenced by Greek philosophy - Clement taug

Clement was born probably c. 150 A.D. of heathen parentage at Athens. The circumstances of his conversion are not known. It is supposed that he was troubled, like Justin, by the problem of God and, like him, was attracted to Christianity by the nobility and purity of the evangelical doctrines and morals. His conversion, if it had not yet taken place, was at least imminent when he undertook the journeys spoken of in his writings. He set out from Greece and travelled through southern Italy, Palestine, and finally Egypt, seeking everywhere the society of Christian teachers. -- Towards 180 A.D., he met Pantaenus at Alexandria, and took up his permanent residence in that city. There he was ordained a presbyter and, from being a disciple of Pantaenus, became, in 190, his associate and fellow-teacher. In 202 A.D. or 203 A.D., he was forced to suspend his lessons on account of the persecution of Septimius Severus, which closed the Christian school of Alexandria. He withdrew into Cappadocia, residing there with his former disciple, Bishop Alexander. We meet him again in 211 A.D., carrying to the Christians of Antioch a letter from Alexander, in which are mentioned the services he, Clement, had rendered in Cappadocia.-- In 215 A.D. or 216 A.D.the same Alexander, now bishop of Jerusalem, writes to Origen and speaks of Clement as having gone to his rest. Clement must therefore have died between 211 A.D. and 216 A.D. Ancient authors speak of him as St. Clement, but his name was not admitted to the Roman Martyrology by Benedict XIV.

HAKAN LANS LOST AGAINST DELL AND GATEWAY

I wonder why we haven't read more about Håkan Lans's fight against Dell and Gateway in American media. Here is an excerpt from Peter Zura's post, Håkan Lans Is Back at The Federal Circuit (and Sweden Will Be Watching):

In one of the strangest, and most controversial patent infringement cases in recent history, Håkan Lans (aka Uniboard Aktiebolag) returns to the Federal Circuit on October 6, where the court will determine his fate on the disastrous enforcement effort regarding U.S. Patent No. 4,303,986 (Panel J: Friday, October 6, 2006, 10:00 A.M., Courtroom 203 - 2006-1070 Lans v. Gateway 2000) .

A prolific inventor and a folk hero in his native Sweden, Lans was granted the '986 patent in 1981, which covered Video Graphics Array (VGA) technology. In 1989, Lans agreed to license the ’986 patent to IBM. However, for tax reasons, Lans wanted to have his shell company, Uniboard, grant the license. To assure that Uniboard possessed the rights it was purporting to license, IBM requested that Lans first execute an assignment of the ’986 patent to Uniboard. Lans executed the assignment to Uniboard personally and then, on behalf of Uniboard, executed the license to IBM. Lans soon obtained licenses from others, including Hitachi, HP, and Apple.

In 1996, Lans sent letters to the computer industry accusing numerous companies of infringing the ’986 patent. The letters identify Lans as “the inventor and owner” of the ’986 patent, but did not mention Uniboard.

In 1997, Lans personally sued numerous companies for infringement of the ’986 patent. The complaint did not include Uniboard as a plaintiff. During discovery, the defendants found out about the assignment, and concluded that Lans had no business asserting the patent claim, because he wasn't, in fact, the owner.

And that's when everything started to unravel for Lans. (271patent.blogspot.com, 09/28/06.)

GOP PREMORTEM

It is interesting to see how the GOP is struggling to keep the seats in the forthcoming elections. Rush Limbaugh is angry about a GOP pre-mortem comment. The main problem with today's conservatives is that they are not able to defend capitalism in a principled way. It could be the case that they hesitate to support capitalism due to their "pork" addiction... Here is a quote from Gary Shapiro's article, Clemson University Establishes a Think Tank Devoted to Studying the Moral Basis of Capitalism:

The Clemson institute, Mr. Thompson said, faces what he calls an "anti-capitalist bias" among most of the intellectual elite in America. "It began in the last the quarter of the 19th century and picked up steam," he said. "For well over 100 years, the cultural elite in universities have been opposed to capitalism and have set the terms of this debate, which is why the Republican Party in general and conservative intellectuals in particular have not been able to defend capitalism on moral grounds." (NYSun.com, 09/25/06.)

For more on GOP and the problems with conservatism, read C. Bradley Thompson's article, The Decline and Fall of American Conservatism. Here is an excerpt from the article:

Like the aging hippies of the New Left, compassionate conservatives reject the idea of basing morality on reason and instead embrace a morality grounded in feelings. They reject the possibility of a morality of self-interest and individual rights, and instead embrace a morality of self-sacrifice and governmental coercion. Despite all their loose rhetoric about applying “free-market” solutions to the plight of the poor, compassionate conservatives accept the moral premise of liberal-socialism: that you have a moral duty—a moral duty that will be enforced by the state—to love and support those who have needs greater than your own. Pricing Strategies for a Strong Bottom Line

A price strategy is every bit as important as what you have got to sell. After all, they dictate what you will charge for the goods and services you have on the market. In the end, getting these pricing strategies right is a bit of a balancing act. You will need to find that sweet spot between market demand and maximum profits.

1. Competition Based Pricing Strategy
If you are selling things that are similar, this is the pricing strategy your small business should be looking at. Here’s how competitive pricing works. First off, this works best for products rather than services. It works when the price for those products has reached a balancing point between your business and others.

This pricing strategy starts out using the going market rate to set a price.

2. Value-Based Pricing
Basically this is pricing based on what customers are willing to pay.

There are several steps to this pricing model. You need to do a bit of detective work here to find a competitive product. Next, you will need to list all the ways your product is different. Stress the financial value on these differences. This is a reasonable way to defend your pricing strategy.
