He holds degrees in fine art, metaphysical science, and biology (specializing in sustainable living) and is licensed in metaphysical science and traditional ministry.

Love’s colorful, abstract photographs are inspired by nature and the nature of things, taking inventory of the immense beauty that surrounds us and guides us in our searching.

Love’s work has been exhibited at the Ellen Kayrod Gallery, Detroit, and the U-M Museum of Art. He is a former artist-in-residence at The Heidelberg Project in Detroit.

Joseph Sywenkyj is the 2024-25 Weiser Center for Europe and Eurasia’s Distinguished Fellow, and a Knight-Wallace Fellow at the University of Michigan. An award-winning American photographer of Ukrainian descent, Sywenkyj has lived and worked in Ukraine for the last two decades. He has worked throughout Europe and Central Asia for numerous publications and is a frequent contributor to *The Wall Street Journal*. His photographs have been exhibited in galleries and museums, including the United Nations Visitor’s Lobby in New York and the Taras Shevchenko National Museum in Kyiv.

Dr. Rekha Thomas from the University of Washington discusses three-dimensional image reconstructions from two-dimensional photos. The mathematics of image reconstruction is both simpler and more abstract than it seems. To reconstruct a 3D model based on photographic data, researchers and algorithms must solve a set of polynomial equations. Some solutions to these equations work mathematically, but correspond to an unrealistic scenario — for instance, a camera that took a photo backwards. Additional constraints help ensure this doesn't happen. Researchers are now investigating the mathematical structures underlying image reconstruction, and stumbling over unexpected links with geometry and algebra.

Infantile hemangiomas have a period of rapid growth in early infancy. Most hemangioma growth is completed by 5 months of age, but the majority of patients are not seen by a specialist until after the growth phase is complete.

The most rapid hemangioma growth is between 1 and 2 months of life, much earlier than previously believed. Patients with high-risk hemangiomas should be followed closely, and treatment initiation should be considered before or during the most rapid growth phase. (Read the full article)
