The Christian Diaspora is understood by Luke as used by God for the growth and maturity of his people, and not simply as an occasion for great lament. This insight contrasts with Jewish responses to the earlier Diasporas caused by Assyria and Babylon, for we know that God turns even martyrdom and dislocation to His purposes: He is the One who tramples down death by death.

The pandemic's economic fallout left many Venezuelans abroad and the relatives back home who rely on them in dire straits.

The purpose of this publication is to propose ways of thinking about new public policies that could better harness the skills of diasporas to foster development in the countries of origin.

Large outflows of educated young people escaping high levels of unemployment, in tandem with inflows of unauthorized migrants, pose a fresh set of challenges for Greek policymakers. This Transatlantic Council on Migration report examines Greek emigration, and its economic implications, before exploring policy directions to minimize the costs and maximize the benefits of this mobility.

The Armenian diaspora, which significantly exceeds the country's resident population, has played an instrumental role in Armenia's political and economic development since independence in 1991. This report discusses Spain’s changing migration patterns in the wake of dramatic economic downturn, paying special attention to the effects of the emigration of young, native-born Spaniards. The report also focuses on policies geared toward engaging the increasing number of Spaniards abroad, finding that much of Spain's policy towards diasporas predates the 1980s.

Faced with high emigration rates and shrinking, aging populations, the Baltic states—Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania—are exploring different ways to lure back nationals who have emigrated and establish or solidify ties with members of the diaspora. Of the three countries, Estonia is proving the most successful, while Latvia appears to be ignoring the looming demographic crisis and lacks an immigration plan.

Sarah Aroeste, Shai Bachar, and Ellie Falaris Ganelin perform Ladino music and offer educational commentary about this language. Ladino is the language of Sephardic Jews expelled from Spain during the Inquisition, and spoken in Mediterranean and Balkan regions before the Holocaust. It is an endangered language because numerous speakers were killed during the Holocaust. Aroeste describes Ladino as a pan-Mediterranean language crossing linguistic and cultural boundaries. A display of rare Ladino books curated by the Hebraic Section in the African and Middle Eastern Division at the Library of Congress accompanies this performance.
