Army removes Confederate Memorial from Arlington National Cemetery as Civil War-era controversies continue to roil national and local politics.

They say the flag makes them feel disrespected.

Public and private schools named for leaders of the Confederacy have come under renewed scrutiny amid the national Black Lives Matter protests.

An Education Week analysis found that at least 140 schools, almost all below the Mason-Dixon line, still bear the names of figures from that era.

In a 11-4 vote, the City Council decided to remove the 65-foot-tall monument from its location in the heart of the city

Since June 2020 Education Week has tracked if & when the over 200 schools named after men with ties to the Confederacy changed their names.

Some say it was the taking down of the Robert E. Lee monument that caused the torch-wielding Nazi/white supremacists to rage. Others are confident that it had nothing to do with the statue, and everything to do with racist and anti-Semitic rage of monumental proportions that inspired the Nazis/white supremacists/white nationals to storm Charlottesville, Virginia.    

The name change comes as leaders of the school district in Mississippi's capital city, where more than 95 percent of students are African-American, are reconsidering Confederacy-linked names on three campuses.

In an apparent attempt to intimidate voters, at least a dozen trucks and other vehicles were caught on video parading around early polling stations in Florida waving Confederate flags on Monday.

Students at West Plains High School in Missouri waved a confederate flag inside their high school's cafeteria in retaliation to 60 pride flags being handed out to fellow students.
