Billy Porter, a veteran theater actor, can add a new honor to his list: being the first openly gay African American man to be nominated for a Lead Actor Emmy.

During the Emmys on Sunday, cameras briefly landed on Billy Porter during RuPaul's speech, and for a rare moment Porter was sitting quietly amid the applause for the drag performer on stage.

The performer won a Grammy back in 2014 for Best Musical Theater Album after originating the role of Lola in the Broadway musical adaptation of the movie Kinky Boots.
