été ETSI Multi-access Edge Computing completed Phase 3 Work and started Phase 4 By www.etsi.org Published On :: Mon, 15 Apr 2024 16:58:35 GMT Sophia Antipolis, 15 April 2024 ETSI Multi-access Edge Computing completed Phase 3 Work and started Phase 4 Leading to more effective and fruitful cross organization collaboration In the last three months, ETSI ISG MEC has released its final set of Phase 3 specifications and made significant progress on Phase 4 with the opening of new Work Items. In particular, the last Phase 3 version of MEC 011 (Edge Platform Application Enablement) contains the updates related to the latest alignment with 3GPP on CAPIF, thanks to a fruitful collaboration with SA6, CT3 and SA3 groups. Also, ISG MEC produced an updated version of MEC 040 (Federation Enablement APIs), that carefully considered the relevant work of other industry bodies relating to MEC federation and all relevant work done in ETSI. This work is critical for supporting the requirements from GSMA OPG (Operator Platform Group) to enable inter-MEC system communication and allow 5G operators to collaborate among themselves, with service cloud providers and with other stakeholders. New APIs are introduced for the enablement of MEC federation, helping operators to "federate" edge computing resources by offering their MEC service capabilities for mutual consumption, application developers and end-customers (e.g. vertical markets). été Veterans Week: Fighting in the Electromagnetic Spectrum (November 13, 2024 12:00pm) By events.umich.edu Published On :: Mon, 28 Oct 2024 10:30:15 -0400 Event Begins: Wednesday, November 13, 2024 12:00pm Location: Off Campus Location Organized By: Veteran and Military Services Naval warfare was confined for centuries to surface combat and undersea clashes. In the 20th century, aerial warfare became the third domain, and shortly thereafter, the electromagnetic spectrum also appeared. When navies began to make use of the airwaves, they soon discovered those waves could also be exploited as a source of information about the opposing force, beginning the discipline of electronic intelligence (ELINT). Furthermore, navies learned the value of interrupting or corrupting the enemy’s communication signals that were transmitted in the “ether," leading to the method of fighting termed electronic warfare (EW). In this book, Wildenberg cuts through the secrecy about this understandably mysterious domain of combat. He offers details on aircraft and methods and provides a layman’s set of definitions of terms. Wildenberg shares lessons learned from World War II skirmishes as well as clashes in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, while providing the audience with a foundational understanding of this complex form of combat in all its forms. This book discloses rarely covered concepts and methods that will shape future conflict among great powers. About the Author: Thomas Wildenberg is an independent historian and scholar with special interests in aviators, naval aviation, and technological innovation in the military. He has written extensively about the U.S. Navy during the interwar period. His articles have appeared in several scholarly journals, including the Journal of Military History, American Neptune, Air Power History, and U.S. Naval Institute Proceedings. He is the author of several books on naval history covering such varied topics as replenishment at sea, the development of dive bombing, and the history of the torpedo in the U.S. Navy. His interest in the personalities of innovators has led to books on Admiral Joseph Mason Reeves, Billy Mitchel, Charles Stark Draper, and Howard Hughes. His latest work, “The Origins of Aegis,” has just been released by the Naval Institute Press. Mr. Wildenberg served as a Ramsey Fellow at the National Air and Space Museum from 1999-2000. He is a recipient of the Arthur W. Radford Award for Excellence in Naval Aviation History (2012), the Surface Navy Association Literary Award (2005), and two John Laymen Awards from the North American Society for Oceanic History for best naval history (2013) and best biography (2003). He received the Air Force Historical Foundation's award for the best article in the 2009 volume of Air Power History, was awarded an honorable mention in the Ernest J. Eller Prize in Naval History (1994), and received the Edward S. Miller Naval War College Research Fellowship (1998). Full Article Lecture / Discussion

été The trade fraud detective By www.npr.org Published On :: Fri, 23 Aug 2024 21:26:50 +0000 When David Rashid took over US autoparts maker Plews and Edelmann, the company was losing business to its Chinese rival, Qingdao Sunsong. Both companies make power steering hoses, but Sunsong was offering its hoses to retailers at a much lower price. Then, in 2018, the Trump administration threw companies like Rashid's a lifeline, by announcing tariffs on a range of Chinese goods, including some autoparts. Rashid thought the tariffs would finally force Sunsong to raise its prices, but, somehow, the company never did.It was a mystery. And it led Rashid to take on a new role – amateur trade fraud investigator. How could his competitor, Sunsong, absorb that 25% tax without changing its prices? And why had all of Sunsong's steering hoses stopped coming from China and started coming from Thailand? On today's episode, the wide gulf between how tariffs work in theory... and how they actually work in practice. And David Rashid's quest to figure out what, if anything, he could do about it. The Queens were able to buy that home with a VA loan because of Ray's service in the Army. During COVID, the Queens – like millions of other Americans – needed help from emergency forbearance. They were told they could pause home payments for up to a year and then pick up again making affordable mortgage payments with no problems. That's what happened for most American homeowners who took forbearance. But not for tens of thousands of military veterans like Ray Queen. On today's show, we follow two reporters' journey to figure out what went wrong with the VA's loan forbearance program. How did something meant to help vets keep their houses during COVID end up stranding tens of thousands of them on the brink of foreclosure? And, once the error was spotted, did the government do enough to make things right?Today's episode was produced by James Sneed. It was edited by Meg Cramer. And fact-checked by Dania Suleman.
